We're 4 months on from his last fight, Wilder has since turned 36, and the last I saw he was hinting at retirement.
A few fighters have suggested they would be willing to fight him, and there's silence from team Wilder.
I'm a bit out of the loop. When did we last hear from the Bronze Bomber?
I've been pretty critical of his skills and CV, but he was good fun in the division. I'd pay to watch him, particularly if he lines up the Joshua fight that was such a missed opportunity for the sport, or alternatively I'd like to see him get a decent acknowledgment from the boxing world if he announces his retirement.
Either way, what's he doing? And how long can he say nothing before we assume he's just quietly slipped into retirement? I wouldn't have pegged him as the type to do that.
Right now... his achievements put him in the top 5 of the blue riband division. There's unfinished business one way or another.
Yeah I don't get it myself. He was offered $7M for Whyte with a promise of a shot at AJ if he won. Of course those fights were to be made in U.K., and Wilder used that as his excuse for not wanting it. In hindsight, he likely beats Whyte, and had a better chance at beating AJ than he did Fury. I have to wonder if Wilder is permanently damaged from those Fury beatings now, if not physically then mentally/emotionally.
Yeah, going to the UK wasn't an issue for Wilder - until Wilder fighting on DAZN was an issue for Haymon. He had the exclusive deal with Fox - don't remember if it was being negotiated or already signed - in which Fox was told they would have first choice on his entire stable.
I can't believe how stupid Wilder was. Lou had a close relationship with Wilder and was clearly looking out for him.
These posters will just find holes anyway they can to discredit A.J while managing to make someone else seem miles ahead of him . :lol1:
Joyce does have a good resume , his best win outside DDD is probably Jennings . Takam was tough but miles on him gave Joyce a harder time and really made him work and Stiverne has been horrid for years but Joyce under Sanchez was the sharpest I’ve seen him . Is it better then A.Js prior to a title shot ? Yea probably even though A.J knocked out Whyte who still was more refined then DDD at that point .
It doesn’t really matter defending titles is far harder against top guys and unless someone defeats A.J ,Usyk or Fury in their 19th fight or before as it stands A.Js win over Klitschko in 19 fights is the best win ever imop as far as attaining it in so few fights and rounds , I think A.J only had 60 something rounds or so I’m not sure ?
AJs resume is superb for today's heavies. Could it be better? Of course. Has he looked poor recently? Yes. But nobody has beaten as many good boxers as AJ. As a whole, and on paper, on Fury comes close.
I think Usyk takes everyone. And yet I still think Joshua's performance was worse than horrible. Why? Because by the 5th round I saw a near defeated man. And its something I've noticed a few times. This will be his undoing even before his skill.
As said, give it time. Just like people said Fury wouldn't lose weight and Usyk would be a dud at heavyweight.
I hear that. Although he actually found his best rounds after the 5th. If he starts using the straight right more often he can beat Usyk. Joyce on the other hand, I don't think has anything that beats Usyk. Again styles make fights.
Whyte is not stupid. If he beats Fury ( I doubt lol) he will offer Fury a rematch or he will want to fight Joshua.
Fury and Joshua are bigger draw in UK than Wilder.
The only set back to that I see is if WBC makes Wilder a mandatory. WBC is in bed with PBC, so I have to wonder if they pull a fast one here.
I can't help but think losing a king's ransom by listening to Haymon over DiBella might have changed his perspective there.
He didn't hesitate to go windmill Audley in Sheffield. But he's also an idiot who makes bad business decisions, so who knows.

For now he's on the outside looking in, and taking a much needed break to recover from those ass-whoopings. If Whyte should pull a win out of his ass over Fury, it's possible Wilder is offered a shot. Problem is, he already turned down Whyte for $7M and I doubt Wilder is willing to fight overseas.

I like Joyce, but he's beaten nobody. I hope he does and I believe he will be a handful for most, but I also see Usyk for example giving him a boxing lesson for 12 rounds. I don't think he wins as many rounds as AJ did, many none.
Styles make fights, but it is what it is.
AJ has done what he has done. I don't understand when people say he doesn't have a great resume, nobody elses comes close, other than probably Fury.
But we can all like who we want, that's cool. The eye test is always interesting, but let's not compare resumes.

I tend to base my assessments on what u see in the ring from the performances. Joyce may not seem like much but in a division full of questionable chins, questionable stamina and questionable jabs, one should pay attention to a guy who seems to excel in all three. The problem I have with Joshua is the hype and the lack of backing of that hype with fairly pedestrian bouts in the ringbar Klisrchko and maybe the second half of the povetkin fight.

His last two fights have been prolonged beat downs.
I know Wilder had 1 round where he dropped fury twice which made that fight seem less one sided but make no mistakes he got beat the eff up for like 20 straight rounds in his last two fights, and his chin got well and truly cracked.
As well as this he's now fought an opponent who his power has not been able to bail him out against, AND live opponents are going to be less awed by his power now and come to pressure and push him back.
As well as this, in the fury saga he's gone from being 32, to coming out the other side of it 36, is his stamina the same? His speed? Not sure on that.
I'm not saying Wilder can't win any big fights, but it's going to be harder now, he's in the same position as AJ currently is where his intimidation factor is low and opponents are really going to feel they can beat him and will fight with confidence.
As much as I agree with what this post says there is a variable there.... Fury took his power because of stature more than anything. Wilder has always been the taller fighter and wasnt used to punching up which ultimately takes sting off the punch. I still think Fury is Wilder's kryptonite but I'm not sure other fighters can take his punches well enough to bully him the way Fury did.
Hard to say.
I like both, just interesting to read double standards. Doesn't make any sense.
Basically, what it really comes down to, is you don't like AJ, but you do like Joyce. That's cool, I hear that - but let's not pretend it's anything different.

Yeah because Joyce isn't touted as having this unbelievable resume and he's not had a title shot either. I'm pretty certain his calibre of opponents have been better than Joshua's prior to his title shot as well.

Agree. (Except the crying gold medalist part, of course. Yoka beat him x3 in the Amateur ranks and will do it again in the pros, lol).
Joyce-Yoka is one of the fights flagged for review after the whole AIBA corruption scandal. It was a dodgy fight and its possible Joyce will be awarded the gold medal after the investigation too.
I don't have a problem with Joyce's resume. But saying AJ is garbage and Joyce's is not is ridiculous.
Just lol'ing the consistency of your comment

He should fight Joshua after AJ gets embarrassed by Usyk again in the rematch
Then they can battle for the title of ¨third best HW¨ in the division. Plus they owe us this match.
1. Usyk or Fury
2. Usyk or Fury
3. Joshua or Wilder
If Windmiller wins, he'll have earned his moniker as the ¨bronze bomber¨¨
Joyce is what, 14 fights in? And his resume includes Takam, Dubois, Stiverne. It's not exactly god awful for a guy nowhere near a title shot. He may soon be adding Parker to the list as well. What exactly is awful about jt? For a guy who is nothing more than a prospect at this point? Especially when include his silver medal (actual gold).

Lol...see my post above. They did it to Sullivan, to Jonson, to Dempsey and Louis too. The way it is. You either respect it or neglect it.
You can't please some people! They will hate who they want and love others - even if it makes no sense
