I'm on this forum to grow my understanding of the sport I love. With that said, I want someone to provide an honest, non-bias, accomplishment based argument for why Canelo SHOULD fight Andrade or Charlo. Oh let's try and keep race out of this, I'm an African American man who's an avid Canelo, Andrade, and Charlo fan. As a fan I want to see Canelo fight those guys, and to shut the mouths of the haters, I really want to see those fights, but I don't think either guy deserves it. I mean everyone gets mad at Canelo for the fights not happening but how long has Andrade and Charlo been in or around the same division. Those guys are scared of losing their sacred "0", which you can thank Mayweather for. Here's why neither deserves the fight based on accomplishments:
Charlo:
-has fought b and c level competition at best.
-beat Julian Williams in amazing fashion, but Williams went on to look subpar, and, with respect to Breadman, is a chinny fighter
-two division world champ, but he only earned one of his belts by beating Cornelius Bundrage, the other belt he was elevated from interim title holder - never unified titles
Andrade: I'll try and keep it short
- two division world champ, never unified
- has a tendency to look terrible against b and c level opposition
-only won vacant titles
- the big kicker is.....he never fought an active world champion to win a title.. something Canelo had already did before he even fought Mayweather.
Because BJS and a host of other guys who didn't deserve it got the chance. They should be fighting each other though then the winner has a really good claim to be next in line although I don't think Canelo is going to 160 ever again
I haven’t read all the responses in this thread but i’m sure someone said “WelL WHat Did FiEldIng do To GEt a ShoT”
He had a title in a relevant weightclass. The title of the thread is about "deserving" a fight. A lot of fights get made but few are because a fighter "deserves" a fight. fighting Charlo or Andrade would be okay fights but neither has, or is willing to, do anything to DESERVE a fight. Fight Benevidez? They won't. Fight Jacobs, they won't. Fight each other? They won't. On the deserve scale they are below Makabu, Kovalev, Smith, Fielding and Saunders but above Yildirim. So there's that anyway...
Has nothing to do with their skin color has to do with the fact that they deserve it more than anyone, been chasing Canelo for a decade, earned the right to fight him by becoming champs at 154, earned the right to fight him by becoming champs at 160.
Canelo doesn’t and maybe even can’t fight at 160, so, so what?

i already respect him as a legit fighter. he had my respect while he was still at super welterweight. those other guys people mention in this thread are a bunch of nobodies in atg discussions. if canelo even loses to makabu, defeats benavidez (i feel like only benavidez is left to really clean 168) and retires, he is already an atg. what i am proposing is ridiculous :) but in order to make giant leaps on the atg lists, you have to do extraordinary things. beating charlo, andrade, benavidez and bivol now wouldn't add too much to his current legacy. canelo is a clear favourite over them and they seem to annoy him right now.
he already has enough money, longevity and very high peak. the only reason to continue fighting is to enhance his legacy. if canelo somehow defeated golovkin, briedis and usyk when they were 30-31, he would be top 5 ever for me (fantasy world, i know). i expect a lot from potential atgs but i respect them even if they lose.
Look in the perspective of ATG leaping I agree with you 100%.
Fighting Makabu, Usyk, Artur would launch him to the top imo. That would be a defeat over a Cruiser, Light heavy and heavyweight champion.
I disagree that you would have him top 5. This would launch him straight to the top because I’m not sure who would have more accomplishments. I suppose if he became undisputed at 175 then it would undoubtedly put him number one ATG for me hands down.
Andrade vs Alvarez is not gonna happen. Everybody knows it.
Charlo vs Alvarez is a real possibility. Question is is Charlo willing to wait till September?
Charlo vs Alvarez is a predictable fight and a guaranteed ass whooping.
Andrade vs Alvarez is not because of Andrade's awkward style.
Obviously, you know exactly which fight fans want to see.
Andrade is too chinny

Absolutely ridiculous.
Canelo is a 5’7” Middleweight and look at what you’re asking from him in order for your to respect him as a legit fighter.
Canelo should be fighting 168lb fighters, everyone else above that weight is a bonus and any victory, especially over a champion should be applauded.
Meanwhile Benavidez is out here fixing to fight Lemiux, Charlo is fighting literally no one lined up right now, or maybe he’ll fight another Jr Middleweight and Andrade just beat a journeyman.

if canelo somehow defeated briedis then the logical next step would be usyk at heavyweight. ...

He was a tune up and Canelo fought him three months after the GGG rematch, which was a war. No one would fight a killer in that situation.
The same goes for the Yildirim fight. Canelo fought Callum Smith in December and then Yildirim in February before the Saunders fight in May.
Ok so who should Canelo's next 3 opponents be?
So Canelo should be the only one fighting all of them?
Why?
because canelo is the cash cow. everybody's in boxing to become a champion and fight or become a cash cow (win the lottery). cash cows are held in higher regard. majority of people don't care about anyone else. i am not saying canelo should fight andrade or charlo next. i am just answering your question.
i was a little surprised canelo didn't attemp to fight arsen gulamirian after kovalev since they were the same (the weakest champions in new weight classes for canelo). i am not surprised now since all of the potential opponents are waiting on a lottery ticket (beterbiev is fighting a tough mandatory but everybody else just waste everybody's time). i don't like makabu as an opponent now but i would really commend canelo if it was mairis briedis instead. briedis is the lineal champion and clear number 1. if canelo somehow defeated briedis then the logical next step would be usyk at heavyweight. usyk would be free after his rematch with joshua and i bet canelo - usyk would generate more money than usyk - fury. usyk would surely take that fight. canelo - usyk would be for the top 20 ever! canelo only needs briedis and usyk for that. the downside is beterbiev (lineal), briedis (lineal) and usyk (unified) will be 37 and 35 next year...
I agree with everything except the part about the WBO title being lightly regarded.
I believe that fighters use the “lightly regarded” excuse when the guy holding the belt is a difficult matchup, and if Jason Quigley had somehow pulled the upset then everyone would wanna fight for the WBO belt again.
And to be fair, I know Quigley wasn’t a world beater but Andrade scored a 2nd round stoppage. That’s what a top guy is supposed to do against that level of opponent.
Of course fighters will pretend the WBO is equal if they can beat an easy guy to get it. But since it's not equal, if you have to beat a tough guy to get it, it's usually not worth it.
Both unbeaten world champs. Canelo isn't a 160 guy right now but if they wana move up or him come back down those 2 are as deserving as anybody.
That's not to say Canelo should have to face them, he can do what he wants he has done 10x what either of those 2 have achieved
They should face each other. Golovkin and Murata are in a unification fight, Charlo and Andrade should do the same. When even was the last unification at MW?
Fighters can chase Canelo, but he's out there doing his own thing while the fighters calling him out are stalling their careers waiting.
He's a pay day of course, but the champs at 160 haven't been fighting each other, the champs at 168 wouldn't face each other and waited for Canelo. Are Beterbiev and Bivol ever going to fight?
The fact Canelo is a free agent means he doesn't have to worry about boxing politics like other fighters, but in the end they could find themselves waiting a long time if they're just waiting on Canelo.
Exactly. All of them would be good fights for Canelo, however I don’t wanna see them fight tune ups until 2024 to preserve their spot in line.
They fail to realize that they can make big fights (and big money) on their own.
Canelo is fighting in heavier weight classes to set a record only. He won't stay there to compete with the other top dogs. You can't justify Alvarez not fighting them just because they won't fight each other. They're all playing a similar game; they want a big payday against Canelo and won't risk a loss that could ruin that. Meanwhile, Canelo won't fight them, because he is trying to set a record for a Mexican fighter with the most championship belts in multiple divisions. a loss or even a hard fight in the lighter divisions makes him less attractive to the heavier champions and reduces potential interest and revenue.
I’m glad you’re willing to acknowledge what’s going on.
I will add that Charlo and Andrade haven’t beaten anyone as good as Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders or Caleb Plant.
Although to be fair, Andrade had the Saunders fight until Billy Joe failed a drug test.
Charlo’s win over Derevyanchenko would be the closest but the three champions Canelo beat would all be a career best win for Charlo and Andrade, and David Benavidez for that matter.
The thread didn't ask who was talented. The thread asked why so and so deserves a Canelo fight and the truth is the only guys who deserve it are the ones that negotiate it. Nobody owes you anything in this life except for what's been promised.
Andrade brings nothing to the table. It was his choice to sign with a British promoter with no experience here. It was his choice to target the lightly regarded WBO title. It was his choice to fight in a boring manner nobody wants to pay to see. He's a nobody. This is prize fighting. There's no prize for fighting him.

Because Rocky Fielding somehow justified getting the fight.
