If the odds are wide enough I might be tempted to put a few loonies on my countrymen by swan song KO.
Either way should be a gunfight at the OK corral type affair.
Who said anything about leaving Showtime. Didn't Showtime and Top Rank make a deal for Wilder and Fury to happen? Deals can be made. These dudes chasing that Canelo lotto ticket don't want to put the work in. They want to look spectacular against mediocre opposition and cry "duck" when Canelo doesn't give them the call.
Both sides lost millions doing the joint broadcast. Doubt it happens again anytime soon.
It has nothing to do with putting in work and everything to do with the people handling Benavidez career. They have plans for him and those plans don’t include leaving Showtime.

Well if he doesn't go then he's a coward.
These dudes want that one big lotto ticket but don't want to put the work in. Not willing to risk anything.

Porter was the mandatory and he had to go to ESPN to get the fight. So I ask again which fighter is going over to Showtime because I guarantee you that Benavidez isn’t crossing over?

AWFUL! Not blaming Benavidez for this one though, WBC have some explaining to do as to how Lemieux is #2 WBC at 168 when he haven't fought ANYBODY at 168 that even Hardcore Boxing Fans would know. Only reason why Benavidez might be forced to take this Trash Fight is because he wants to try and get his WBC Belt Back
Hopefully Lemieux goes the WBO route instead and Benavidez is allowed to fight someone BETTER
Cut a deal. Crawford/Porter got made. AK/Ruiz got made.
That's the problem with these fighters nowadays. Want everything given to them.

How’s he supposed to fight those dudes? Are they coming to Showtime?

would be an excellent fight for Benavidez and fun to watch for the fans, he's still young and learning, he needs that type of fight vs experienced former world champ
Always loved Lemieux but his relevant days are done. He's older and can't boil down to 160 (and barely 168) where his power was even more lethal. I would have loved to see him fight Reno Johnson but he couldn't make weight for that matchup.
Benavidez slaughters the Canadian most likely, but if Benavidez gets lazy and one of those bombs lands then who knows...
Lemieux a 1-trick pony. His only strength is his power and everything else about him is horrible. He will get eaten alive fighting a huge, taller benavidez who has the skills and power.
He wasn't even able to make smw a few times out of his last few fights though. He still refuses to move up even though he doesn't have a chance at a belt anytime soon. Thats a duck
Yeah you have to think he should be moving up if he is really having issues making the weight all the time
They are not doing Benavidez any favors by matching him with this low level opposition. Besides having a full camp to try and keep his weight on check he gains nothing from it, no experience no nothing. I was really looking forward to see him develop over the years but it looks like his regressed a bit technically by fighting the same level competition. Haven't seen him do anything different that he was not doing three or four years ago
But I'm not surprised that team Benavidez is taking a page from the GGG playbook. Why not just sit around beating the Lemieuxs of this world and wait for that payday. Ironically that this too will be one of his top three opponents on his resume
He is what he is. Pretty athletic, great power, good activity. Limited skills for a top level fighter. He's a fun guy to watch imo. Always has the proverbial puncher's chance.
Does David get to pick this fight? I think it's the WBC who is making this matchup.
