They do not.
People have been trying to justify these so called “exhibition” fights for the longest and all they do is bring attention that event, nothing else.
Floyd Conor was in 2017 and Crawford hasn’t sold more than 150K PPV buys since. Spence can’t even crack 400K.
Christ sakes, 44 year old Manny is still the highest PPV seller in boxing at this point next to Canelo.
Stop with that BS false narrative.
Don't associate Floyd's events to the other clown shows. His script sticks to boxing. He was willing to have Davis as a co-main on Feb. 20, until they had realized Gervonta was too big to be on even Floyd's undercard.
Yes facts, these fights are a disgrace and should not be allowed
This will always be with us. Oldtimers making big bucks here and there. I'm all for it. Many die broke. These guys are fighting exhibitions. Real boxing fights can't generate what they can. Most boxers have the personality of a pavement and their skills aren't really elite nowadays.
Some have a potential.
I'm just gonna reiterate what I've always said that I KNOW you guys are tired of hearing..
"If the 8 champions from each weight class actually fought each other, we wouldn't have to worry about 50 year old washed up fighters on ppv, floyd mayweather, and the Paul brothers..."
Good post. That's similar to what Eff Pandas and I were just discussing.
1) When Floyd vs Pac happened, there were guys and girls i know, in all walks inc older ones who got it on ppv and stayed up to watch it. Believe me, everyone was talking about it and it was supposed to be a special night. Many of them have never watched live boxing before outside of maybe olympic boxing.
In the end, most of them were all in agreement that it was a waste of time and money.
2) Floyd vs Mcgregor benefited UFC because people found out about Mcgregor. Hell my sister who has never watched boxing, was laughing out loud and the press tour. She watched Mcgregor vs Khabib.
3) Also on that note, i got my younger cousins to watch Fury vs Klit and hyped it, i made them watch the face to face/gloves are off and they enjoyed that. Then came the fight, they were bored and told me it was boring, nothing happened etc.
However, take my word for it, they all LOVED AJ vs Dillian Whyte. Once again, a lot of girls i know watched that fight. Overnight AJ became a household name. I think sky/matchroom spent money on billboards so it gained aj more traction. Many people didn't know about Dillian Whyte, came to learn of their past at amateur and the 'beef' they have. I guess 2 black guys bashing each other makes them mainstream news in the uk akin to Eubank vs Benn vs Watson days. I just think there's something about it where a black vs black rivalry allows the mainstream to enjoy a good fight without turning overly menopausal over it. Now aj vs the big white guy = racial sh1t all over.
Never said anything about Floyd, big fan.
But quite tired of hearing people try to say that these sort of events “bring more eyes to boxing”....
No, it doesn’t.
Those are the simpletons who are too insecure. Boxing will ALWAYS stand the test of time. Yes, Floyd's exhibition would definitely bring LOTS attention to boxing, not the clown triller shows. They are not about boxing.
You can't blame someone like Floyd (not saying you personally do) for making some money here and there in his retirement days. Many boxers don't get the chance to make that night's money in a lifetime or three. What distinguishes Floyd's exhibition from the clown circus that's triller is: They actually focus on boxing, not on other BS, like a slapping contest. It's a legit boxing show on Showtime, with only Floyd's fight being an exhibition. I will watch it. I'm skipping the next triller show.
I don't think this is affecting boxing at all. The Logan fight was originally to be scheduled on February 20, with Gervonta Davis as a co-main.
War Floyd!:boxing: (Never said that since the Oscar fight.)
