The Brits hate Wilder because they see him as a rival and a potential threat to Anthony Joshua. Americans like Larry Merchant hate him because they no longer want to see another successful Black American heavyweight champion.

This Wilder hate is real. It's like he's a modern day Jack Johnson with an unforgivable Blackness. He is the victim of relentless racial envy, jealousy, bigotry and hate-filled racist attacks by so-called boxing fans. At home it's because of his race and ethnicity. I never get the hate for Wilder. He’s as exciting as a boxer can get. The hate is for ducking, lying about it, saying he wants to kill a fellow boxer in the ring "because it's legal and I can get away with it." He stalled the division and hid under a rock when he lost, after blaming his costume, his water, the ref, his trainer, the alien greys, Fury's gloves and more.
