because it would basically be an ineffective arm punch since you have no ground underneath you and have no way of distributing your weight into a punch with effectiveness.
Not only that but in mid air like that you're totally defenseless.
Humans really are worthless creatures aren't they?
No they don't use the superman punch which is a long leaping straight punch thrown air born with both feet off the ground. They might throw a leaping left hook but that is not the superman punch and can be delivered quickly and not be so badly telegraphed.
I repeat, Floyd and Roy Jones used the superman punch every other fight.
You clearly never watched any of their fights if you don't know this.
I'll even give you a clue about where to look. Check out Floyd vs Marquez or Floyd vs Mosley, or check out Roy Jones vs Ruiz at heavyweight.
There were other fights where they used the superman punch but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head.
You can also watched the Roy Jones "cant be touched" highlights video and see him repeatedly use the superman punch.
And obviously I know what the difference is between the superman punch and a leaping left hook. I aint talking about no hook, I'm talking about a flying straight right hand, with both feet off the ground.
i also wonder why this punch is illegal. it was still a punch though.

You are not allowed to strike with the inside of the glove I believe. I think it happens all the time actually but they aren't as blatant as Manny's above.
Fury was practically ***** slapping Wilder in the last fight.
I think you could probably get good power in a superman punch if you throw your body into it correctly. I think the main reason it isn't used in boxing is because the opponent would see it coming so it's very unlikely it would land well. It would put you in a bad position, off balance and likely to get countered.
superman punch is powerless tbh coz you need a planted foot to generate power to your hands.. shuryuken is doable.. look how pac and casimero did that to their opponents.. such a thing of beauty..
your feet need to be in contact with the ground to punch hard. it's literally the only way you generate real power and shift your weight at the right time. look at any sport where you need to torque at the midsection. baseball pitchers, batters, golfers, tennis, you name it, they all have their feet set and it starts literally with the soles of your shoes. if they're on grass they wear cleats. if they're on canvas they wear a nice high cut set of boxing shoes with good traction and ankle support.
It leaves you wide open to counter and you telegraph that something weird is coming with your entire body movement, its high risk for a punch that even if it landed would be very powerful and has a low chance of landing with a high chance of being countered
the closest boxing equivalent is the leaping left hook, which would be a lot more powerful, more accurate and doesnt leave you as open in the same way. its hard to do because you have to be very athletic and have good timing but it makes way more sense than the super man punch
They dont know **** about boxing.
You know, they do it in every sport. Football, baseball, basketball, they all glorify the old days, and old players that would get wrecked today.
"Work behind the jab. 1-2. Jab jab slip hook."
Man, f@ck all that...
Da, da da daaaa.... BANG!!
Down goes Frazier!! :boxing:
It's because those dumb old school trainers focus all their time teaching archaic punches like crosses and hooks, rather than innovative, exciting techniques like this one.

Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones attempting and landed this punch almost every fight though. No they don't use the superman punch which is a long leaping straight punch thrown air born with both feet off the ground. Punch power is not generated from the arms, its from the core and the legs. Hence why harder hitting fighters tend to be those who sit on the punches and are relatively flat footed. Footwork is essential to good power output and superman punches pretty much counter that logic by the fighter not being on the ground. They're really only served to act as a feint of sorts but little more.
Boxing has been perfected over centuries. If the superman punch was a good punch don't you think the top pro boxers would be using it????? It is not a good punch for a boxer to use so not a single pro boxer of all the thousands of pro boxers fighting today uses a superman punch. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM! It is a punch that is so easy to see and avoid and the guy who throws it has both feet in the air and can easily be knocked down. It might sometimes work in mma because many of them don't have the skills and reactions of a boxer. The better mma strikers never use the superman punch.
