Andre Ward was on the The Ak and Barak Show, and they asked him, if he made a comeback, would he rather fight Canelo or Anthony Joshua. Ward said AJ, because it's all or nothing. He also said he thinks Fury beats AJ based on what he's seen.
If Ward dedicated himself he could return to the top of 175, he never left the division because he was scared he proved all he needed to and the remaining fights left were all winnable but he'd also be taking shots from heavy hitters and he's a smart man and thinks about his career/legacy as well as his life outside of the ring with all his faculties in check.
Breidis at CW has 2 belts if I recall...well, 1 belt and the ring/lineal...I think if Breidis unifies and gets at least one more belt then Ward could very possibly come back and beat Breidis, and then perhaps one more fight, to become undisputed at CW. THAT would be a legacy and I think I'd favour Ward as the best CW in the world if he dedicated himself to acclimating to the weight (and he definitely would).
Let sleeping giants lie, at least for now...

It's kind of weird that I'm typing this post and instead of Andre Ward being the #1 P4P fighter in boxing, he's in the HOF on the first ballot. Good for him but I feel like we missed out on just a bit more.
I feel that way too. Ward coming back to take on AJ would be something else. But I see the Canelo fight at 175 more likely.
Ward retired as the undefeated #1 P4P fighter, and he was the best champ at 168 & 175. Now Canelo is the current #1 P4P fighter and is a champ at 168 and 175.
I think it could be too hard for Ward to pass up, beating Canelo would be a huge PPV, and it would be hard to not give Ward credit for getting the win.
A fit, sharp Ward could potentially make Joshua look silly. The gap in skill and talent between the two is insane. I do not dislike AJ but not one top level heavyweight has an ounce of talent outside of Fury.
I find it so interesting that Ward has been open to the idea of challenging AJ for a while. I don't see how he could win, but would be interested in seeing him try. I would also figure that someone as small as Ward challenging AJ would mess with AJ mentally a bit. I don't know, I might be wrong, but it's just the feeling I get.
Ward was a tough, smart fighter. I could see him having a chance in that matchup. Crazier things have happened. He would have to find a way to get inside/make it rough and stop AJ though. No way Ward outboxes him for 12 rounds. Post-Ruiz the chance of the upset is smaller as well. That fight woke AJ up a bit and made him more cautious.
Dwyer is a professional loser. Hedge those bets, ok guy. Losers hedge bets.I doubt he makes money betting on fights. He is wrong way too often to be making money betting the fights. You would do better off to do the opposite of what he advises.

He also said he thinks Fury beats AJ based on what he's seen.Ward can say whatever he wants since there is no way he returns to boxing anymore than Oscar will come back to face a current champion or top 10 contender. AJ is rock hard at 240 and hits very hard and fast. Ward was a good light heavyweight but I doubt he lasts more than a round or two with Aj. Ward said he retired because his body could not take the hard training needed to be in top condition. So why would that change when he is many years older now? Ward has lots of money and a good job. He has no reason to come back now and risk his unbeaten record for money he would enjoy but does not need. I think Canelo would beat him and I am sure AJ would beat him.
Hunter used to talk about him going up to heavyweight 10 years ago. Back when he was beating everyone in that tournament. Thought they had abandoned the idea though because I hardly ever heard them talk about it since.
Ward was on First Take after Ruiz stopped AJ and he said Joshua is "built all wrong" because he's "trying to look like a model on Instagram."
When Ward was on the Joe Rogan Podcast, he said that before he decided to retire, he planned on eventually fighting Joshua. Rogan asked how heavy he would be for that fight, and Ward said probably 200 because he could never be as big as AJ, so why weigh himself down.
Ward is being inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in June, so it would be interesting to see if Andre Ward would actually try to come back as a Hall of Famer, after years away, jump over Cruiserweight, and challenge a Heavyweight champion.
