Seeing as Floyd has title wins in 5 divisions, but Canelo has only 4 divisions in which he has won a title.
Would Canelo winning a cruiserweight title and before that unifying SMW count as superior?
Or would he need more elite win on his resume? At the moment he has 4. would he need to add how many more?
What does Canelo need to add to surpass Floyd? Is it even possible given hes 31?
Only including titles in actual fights, not prizes or belts awarded outside the ring. So just for example, GGG has won only one title inside the ring in one division. (And no elite wins).
It's all about fighting HOF'ers who are still top 10 in the weight class or top 10 P4P.
HOF'ers Floyd beat who were top 10 when he beat them:
Pacquiao #2 @ 147, #2 P4P
DLH #3 @ 154
Mosley #2 @ 147, #3 P4P
Gatti #1 @ 140
Cotto #1 @ 154
JMM #2 @ P4P
Not sure why Ricky Hatton is not in the IBHOF...he is better than or equal to some guys who are in it. Tszyu, Gatti, McGuigan, Hamed.
Canelo has beaten 2 boxers who are getting into the HOF and were top 10 when he fought them, and maybe 1 more who is a maybe.
Cotto - Champion @ 160
GGG - #1 @ 160, #6 P4P
Kovalev? - #2 @ 175
Canelo fought Lara. Now before you tell me Lara won I was rooting for him and I remember licking my chops as Lara was absolutely schooling him for 6 rounds. I was so proud and I put money on lara( not much if memory serves me correctly)and I was already celebrating. However, I witnessed a fighter absolutely S#hit himself he was not wanting to even counter he just wanted to get as far away from Canelo as possible. It was disgusting to watch. After the 11th I turned from a devout fan to wanting Canelo to knock him out for his cowardice. I’m happy he lost. I love slick boxers but from the 7th that was fear.
Canelo has earned my respect over the years the guy deserves his accolades now. Also De la Hoya is off the scene so I Can start really liking the guy. Let see when his legs go and his reflex’s slow down around 35/36 and he constantly fight guys 15lbs heavier than him on fight night and if he handles them similar to the ease in which Floyd did then we can compare. Also he beats the s#hit out of Boo boo
If he beats Andrade why didn't he fight him for the last belt & become Undisputed like he said he wanted?
You know what I agree with you but this is a problem with almost every fighter we can pick apart their resume and find fights they lost on the cards or some sort of angle before the fight that gave them the edge be it weight, promoters etc Canelo on paper has a really great resume but if you dig deeper there is some question marks on a few fights
Either way he has surpassed where I thought he would end up after his loss to Floyd and he actually looked pretty good vs Smith he seems to have improved his head movement and got some real heavy hands I would love to see him face someone like Floyd again (If it were possible) to see how much he has really improved from that night
Boxing is largely about how you get moved.
Its gonna be tough because he isnt as talented as Floyd and has already been in more close fights that could go either way than Floyd. Not to mention Floyd beat him head to head so that's gonna always be on people's minds.
Id say if he cleaned out 168 and beat GGG the 3rd time decisively (better yet by knockout) and beat Beterbiev or whoever was considered THE CHAMPION at Light Heavyweight (Im not talking about someone like Kovalev who happens to have a belt, I'm talking about the consensus champion) then he could be considered better.
The drug test thing sounds bad now but in time I can see people not caring about it as much.
In the end he probably wont be considered better than Floyd Mayweather because he is not.
Saunders looks awful, hes not on a good run at all.Beterbiev is coming off good wins ,and looks pretty scarely atm.Its not just who you fight, its when you fight them.Im not saying Saunders and Plant wouldnt be good wins, but they wouldnt compare to Floyd against Canelo let's say, because Floyd had an age disadvantage too.I mean,I dont make the rules, but it's a high bar,I think a win at 175 against a monster would suffice.I dont think the Kovalev he fought quite qualifies.
You do know that Beterbiev was losing to Gvozdyk on 2 of the 3 scordcards on his last fight before the knockout. Just like Saunders in his last fight, the knockout saved him.
Beterbiev is in the same boat as Saunders as far as last performance and again, why would Alvarez fight a 175 lber when he is a 168 lber?
Heck, he's got 160 lbers like Andrade & Charlo that he could fight that would make good fights.
What would Canelo need to do now as of 2021 to be greater than Money Mayweather?
Unify at 168 without taking a loss while being in fan friendly fights.
If Beterbiev wants to fight Alvarez, tell him to move down to 168 lbs.
Oh did he, how did he know Manny would say no testing ?
What part dont you understand where the guy that says yes is ducking the guy that said no and walked away, how on earth do you figure that out, Manny could off had the fight in 2010 Floyd was agreeing to all Mannys demands all of them including 50/50 and his stupid 10 mill weight clause while he wanted only one demand himself testing, and Manny said no and then Manny demands Rios take the same tests he refused which is a fkn joke.
I think some of you wear blinkers and only see what you want to see.
Floyd, I'm retired or on vacation, unless its low risk, Mayweather, said no to anybody that posed a risk. Prime Manny, Prime Cotto, Winky Wright, Margarito, Paul Williams, Keith One Time, etc...etc....etc..., if they could hit you back, Floyd is nowhere to be found
He has too much controversy on his resume to ever be better than Floyd + he lost to him so it makes Floyd look that much greater. Depending who you talk to Canelo has 4-5 losses on his resume. Depending who you talk to Floyd has at most 1 loss on his resume.
He has not fought 1 slick black fighter since Floyd Mayweather. & has refused to fight the only one available since 154. Demetrius Andrade has the most skills & talent 154lbs & up.
He doesn't even have to go past 168. Beating Demetrius Andrade will give him A LOT of credibility amongst the people who really know boxing. There's a storyline there, it's a style that's given him trouble whenever he faced it & arguably never beat it. Andrade is also the boogeyman who can't get notable fights. Wilder gained a lot of respect from me & made his name off Ortiz, as he was considered at that time the boogeyman of the Heavyweight division. It would do more for Canelo than some are willing to admit.

He would need some “mail in" ballots to come in, to retroactively reverse Floyd’s decision win over him, from years ago... Then he needs to have string of ‘close fights’, (that could have gone either way) where he gets widely scored, unanimous decision wins over all of them, while remaining ‘undefeated’. Then he needs a few exhibitions against WWE and UFC superstars. After all of that, he needs to start constantly regurgitating & repeating that he’s “The Best Ever”, after every single question related to him hand picking opponents. That ought to do it!

Well said.
I'm not convinced on Andrade though.
I think Mayweather taught everybody the game. Only certain fighters of certain marketability will ever have a chance of going close (I cannot see anybody other than an American or a Mexican (in America)) .
The model is you have to be in a division with a small weight bracket, so you can move up or around 3 divisions, so if you can be around 3 divisions over a period of time, that gives you access to about 20 opponents you can market as being a "world champion"... so all the casuals and socials have no idea whatsoever and you can continue looking good.
AJ is still the biggest attraction on the planet, but being heavyweight doesn't him that marketing strategy, although had be been a yank he would be a household name in the States and probably be on 100m per fight.
Naw that don’t mean ****tt canelo was dehydrated green and not in his prime yet any non Floyd ****guzzer could tell you that. And even Floyd knows prime canelo Rips him apart.
Just like the guys Pac lost to early inhis career don’t make them better than him.
Canelo is well on his way to surpassing Floyd time is on his side.
Slow down tiger he is good but not that good just yet. As I explained earlier you have to see him at 36/37 years when his legs and reflex’s have deserted him a tad and he is fighting guys 15-20lb bigger than him on fight night and he is left with his boxing IQ to see him through. Only then I can see if he is worth his salt. I respect the guy he is a bad dude

what a ridiculous question
the fact that he got dominated by floyd will always make him his toy pet
in addition, if he hadn't have had a couple gift decisions sway his way, he could have easily have had 2-3Ls
Floyd s best win is against former flyweight. So nel o needs to continue doing what's he's doing and then he will be greater at the end and when all is said and done.
Beterbiev and Bivol are on the same level as Plant and Saunders as far as notoriety...neither one of these four are superstars like Oscar De La Hoya was.
Mayweather moved up to fight a superstar in Oscar, other than that he moved back down to 147lbs.
Also Alvarez started his career at 154 so moving up to 168 is a feat within himself, it's not his fault that the comp at 168 isn't up to snuff (in your opinion).

The question was to be greater than Floyd.Maywether went to 154 for Oscar and Canelo. He was a 147lbder.I dont think beating Plant or Saunders is gonna cut it.

Those are all facts. Fraud made Pac wait 6 years, two losses and an injured shoulder before running and hugging his way to a bogus win. Facts.
Pac shïts all over Fraud's resume. It's not even close. If I recall correctly. It was manny that said "I'm afraid of needles" even though, he is cover in tattoos.

Beat Tyson Fury.
That's pretty much it.
Floyd's resumè is not that hard to beat. It's trash
Want to do a head to head against Mannys weights measure and form of opponents, if Floyds is trash wtf is Mannys .
Start a thread if you like I will blow you out of the water.
