Women have been crying for equal pay in boxing. Pointing to superstars who get paid millions meanwhile they make a fraction of that.
Do you guys think its unfair that women get paid less?
Me personally I think women get paid accordinly, they arent big sellers and arent moving no needles, putting any asses in seat or even contributing to bringing in money. As is alot of women boxing paycheck are borderline charity but so can be said of lower level figthers who bring nothing in but fill up slot space on a undercard etc.
However, if promoters give in to women demands for higher pay just because than they will be taking that pay from lower level fighters pay and isnt that unfair to lower level fighters to have their pay cut just to appease a womens false cries of injustice?
Where is PBC Coverage of Women Boxing?!
I know people in the Boxing Industry are terrified of Haymon because he is Powerful but he should be called out for the Lack of Women Boxing on PBC! :dunno: You have 2 Network Deals it would be huge for Women Boxing if they could be featured on FOX. I don't get why Heather Hardy calling out Eddie Hearn when he is the one Pushing Women Boxing the Most. Lou DiBella been trying to Push Women Boxing for YEARS so yeah PBC need to contribute and Top Rank need more than just Makayla Mayer
No reason why Shields shouldn't be apart of PBC!
Never been into women's boxing. even when Leila Ali was in it. not for me. but i fck with women's MMA.
Yessir, women MMA just more entertaining.
Women’s boxing, no.
Pay needs to be equated to what that person/organization is bringing in. Not due to gender.
Honestly, the whole fair pay and equal pay just has to make sense. It shouldn't just be givin out for equality rights or whatever you want to call it.
Listen, if a female CEO does the same exact job the former male CEO did, pay them the same exact money, period.
Now if a female boxer isn't drawing the same crowds or attention to the sport, how the heck can they justify the raise? You know, I can see justifying the female boxer if she is on the star power of let's say an ODLH was or Pacquaio, but cmon. You can't just be any female boxer and think you're going to get paid the same just because you are in the same sport. In all honestly, are they getting paid similar to other male unknown boxers? PROBABLY.
Now if you are a Clarissa Shields or something, I can understand the frustration because you are one of the bigger names in female boxing, but again, it doesn't come down to just that, it comes down to sales. They're just not as exciting to watch as male boxers so they'll have less of a draw in general.
I was actually watching the Mayer fight the other weekend and thinking, man, female boxing has to almost be one of the easiest combat sports. Some of those punches landing look like they have ZERO pop. You hardly ever see a female boxer KO'd brutally unless your name is Vonda Ward vs half man half woman Ann Wolfe. Like, it rarely happens, thus you are in for most likely a 12 rder rock em sock em robots with pillows in their gloves.
Just go look on twitter, heather hardy, sulem urbina, and Serrano, Shields have spoke on it in the past, however what triggered this was some of heather hardy tweets in the past few days.
Is this man... a PROMOTER... really out here talking about how we can’t expect more pay unless we “PROMOTE” ourselves?!? And out here saying that the WOMEN - should be promoting HIS card, if we want to make the same money as the guys? . Wow BRUH. Shes oppose to eddie hearn saying "women cant expect equal pay if the commercial value of the fight is not the same (as men)"
No I think Heather's more having a go at Hearn saying it's his job - not the fighters - to promote them well enough to get better pay for, em.

This tweet from Natasha Jonas sums up the sentiment better I think and I believe Hearn himself references a tweet or comment from Laila Ali saying something similar.
No one I know has asked for equal pay, they asked for fairness, how's that wrong? Boxers need to win, be good, have a fan friendly style, many have proved that. MMA promote female fighters well, learn from them. I hope this show does great numbers to prove that market is there!— Natasha Jonas (@TashaJonas) November 10, 2020
Interesting article from Serrano and Hardy here, but I wouldn't say it's 'crying' so much as just frustration. I think most women accept that they can't get paid more than they're commercially worth but they think the promoters - including Hearn - should be doing more to increase that value.

I've seen a few women opine that more pay would be nice but I ain't seen anything from any female boxers that I'd describe as a 'demand' for more pay or 'crying' about the perceived inequality.
Maybe you could link to which particular comments by female fighters prompted you to use that kinda perjorative terminology?

If female boxers want equal pay then demonstrate you can earn equal gross...live gate, PPV, endorsements, etc.
Good luck
Sadly they would have to box in g-strings to earn anything remotely close to equal pay. And undercard fights would need 1-2 mud wrestling "bouts" between a couple of Hooters girls
I agree that they need to generate more money in order to get paid more. Now, if they're bringing in viewerw like Canelo and AJ and not getting paid the same type of paychecks those two get, than sure, that would be unfair. But currently they don't generate much interest or money to be demanding those types of paychecks.
Simple solution....let them have a women-only card arranged by a woman promoter and see how many PPVs it does. They can then demand their worth accordingly.

The highest paid female boxer in history is Katie Taylor and her last purse against Persoon was around $1.2 million. She might just be the start of a new generation of female boxers who are skilled and entertaining enough to generate more revenue and bigger purses than before but it's doubtful they'll ever quite match male purses. Unless a lot of new female boxing fans start watching who might have more interest in seeing female fights than male fights. It's largely a fan-driven equation I think. More fans a fighter has, more money they can generate.
This sport is based on revenue. If a female boxer can bring in the revenue, then she should get paid that much
but they just don't put asses in seats. They don't even fight 3 minute rounds.
If the individuals only argument is that they should be paid the same as a man just to "be fair", then no. If their argument is based on something other than what's in their pants - ie, revenue generated, then sure.
Bottom line is, if you don't generate the same money as someone else, then you shouldn't bring home the same money as someone else - man, or woman.
Should a Salesperson who generates 100k profit for a company, be given the same financial reward as a Salesperson who generates $1million? No - because one is clearly worth more than the other when it comes to dollars and cents. Being a woman, or being a man, doesn't entitle you to anything.
Ronda rousey was getting paid but she put butts in the seats.....and thats what male boxer do to.
She even made it onto the cover of The Ring magazine
What a great day for the sport that was.
