for being arguably the best amateur boxing country in the world, they historically have underperformed in the professional ranks. You would think they would be pumping out beasts one by one.
Compare them to say the Post-Soviet countries (Eastern Europe plus Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan etc. ) that tend to have similar amateur programs like Cuba, but they seem to have more success in the pros
its weird
That’s because pro boxing has business involved with it. Cubans have far lesser fanbase which means they don’t draw crowds.
We’ve seen them perform in the ring. They’ve shown that they brought their skills even in the pro ring. But mostly, they lose via decisions or they’re being outmatched unevenly. Most top fighters either duck them or, if they show up their balls to fight them, rob them with ridiculous scorecards. They don’t get favorable decisions because they’re not good for the business.
In amateurs, there’s no business in general and it’s just plain competition. They get favorable scores from unbiased judges which causes them to shine and have so much success.
Let’s face it. Pro boxing is more of a business than a sport. Cubans are one of the victims of this crooked system.
Oh yea that would kinda have to fook you up on some level.
Lara had a wife & a kid or two in Cuba iirc & then he got with that big booty hoe when he got here. She left him once he started getting past prime recently doe. Bet he's missing wife #1 now.
wow really???? when did they split?? link???
Angel Espinosa
Jorge Luis Gonzales when he actually trained
Adolfo Horta
Teofilo Stevenson
The haters are going to be haters, always. They think the Cuban school is hit and run. Wait until they see Morell, Bruzon, Gomez and a few others. You forgot Andres Aldama.
Cubans style are only good in the amateurs, and they turn pro in their mid to late 20'sHow come they are kicking a$$es in the wsb? That format is like the professional and they are getting pay.
and you are full of sh%t
yeah they train like pros their entire lives to bully kids and part timers. glad you agree
so according to you. every cuban is good from birth so it is ok if they bully part timers and kids??? LMAO
Thank you, you won. This is a great comeback. By the way you are forgetting the eastern block trains their athletes from an early age. Just like we do in America. And if you think Cubans are good from their birth, it is your opinion, not mine. What I said was that they start at very early age, some make it others don't. They should jump to the pro after their first big tournament, but most of the time they can't. Something that is simple and natural for other athletes around the world.Becomes an struggle for Cubans athletes. This is very simple to understand
More experience in the Amateur ranks due to restrictions in their nation I guess so when they get a chance to turn Pro or enter those ranks it's later on in their careers for a lot off them? some perform well in the Pro ranks too in the past..
cubans are used to bullying kids and part time boxers.
different kettle of fish going up against real fighters.
cubans are softYou are not very knowledgeable. Cubans stay too long in the amateur, because they can't leave their country when they want to. Also they start very young and by the time they are 18/19/20 years old, they already has won an Olympic medal, panam or World tournament. So they used to kick a$$ since they are teenegers, no bullies. Do your research before posting nonsense. I had seen a lot of Cubans like Casamayor, Gonzalez, Dorticos and a bunch of other Cubans fighting real fighters.

its weirdLet me recall a few Champs after castro. From the amateur ranks. Hurtado, Casamayor, JC Gomez, Yoan P. Hernandez, Dorticos, Lara, Gamboa, Rigondeaux, Matellon, Ugas, Barthelemy. I don't know if another escape my memory but I think it should be enough for what I have to say. All eastern european fighters can come and go as they pleased. Cubans have to defect, sometimes on a raft, being smuggled or going thru the South/Central america jungle. And they coming to have a better life not for the glory of the sport. How many more boxers from Easter Europe and how many from Cuba that had left the country? No matter how you look at it. It is a numbers game. More fighters from Europe can compete in the professional ranks and still have their family with them. Cubans a lot less with a different mind set and no family. I think anyone reading this can draw their own conclusion. For Cubans is an struggle from the star to the finish line. And they don't defect young, most of the time is closer to 30+ than to 20 years old. But we getting better, Morell Jr., Bruzon, Gomez and a few others all over the world are competing. You will be hear from them soon. Stay safe.
