What is its intent? Homage? Low Key Disrespect?
I see quite a few Mexicans on Twitter tonight voicing their dislike of this. (it was before LSC got KO'd so it wasn't just post fight hate)
Mayweather Promotion Said it was Tank's way to pay homage to Floyd Mayweather.

I talk to alot of Mexican people (southern california) who say African American fighters mean it in a disrespectful way, a way to clown the Mexican culture/people while hiding behind the cloak of "I'm just paying homage". The Mexican people I spoke to say it's the equivalent of race baiting.
This is what made me wonder if Tank would come out with the Mexico colors in my earlier thread and people called me dumb cause its non cinco de mayo.
Update:
I did some research; thanks for poster in here to pointing me in the right direction.
It appears this does indeed stem from a place of disrespect after all.
This trend was started by a fighter dubbed "THE MEXICAN ASSASSIN" Roger Mayweather (Floyd Mayweather Jr. uncle).
Floyd Mayweather Jr. brought it back when he faced legendary Mexican-American boxer Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd mocked the Mexicans people/Mexican Culture in this build up and to put the final touches on the entire ordeal Floyd came out to the fight in the Mexico Colors and "Sombrero" (Big Mexican hat) to invoke disdain for him from The Mexican people and it worked.
Alot of other African American fighters have followed suit in their big matchups vs Mexicans opponents by wearing the Mexico Colors and "Sombrero" (Big Mexican hat) outfits like Errol Spence jr, Adrien Broner*, Tank Davis** etc
*I remeber Adrien Broner having that controversial borderline racist remark a few years back "I just beat the fuck out of a Mexican"
** Tank Davis during the ring announcement of Tank Davis records etc his corner was mockingly doing that Mexican scream that Mexicans do alot during parties etc.
** Also according to Mayweather Promotions Tank Did it to show homage to Floyd, and Floyd did it to continue his uncle legacy of "The Mexican Assassin" moniker.
So in my opinion and from getting feedback by tons of Mexicans seeing how the majority of them disdain this, I think it is "low key disrespect" meant invoke hate, disdain, emotions from the Mexican fans by using this to as a form of mockery toward the Mexican people and their culture.
A Mexican friend of mines who I respect for being a honest respectable man put it to me this way; what if I was a fighter and called myself "The African Killer" and I wore an Egyptian King Pharaoh type of outfit but only when I fought against black fighters. He said that if that really happened no one will question or doubt that his intent is to disrespect the Black/African people. He stated that the same thing applies to when certain fighters wear the Mexican colors, their intent is clear.
My mind is still slightly open on the matter, but for right now I am leaning on the Mexican point of view since they are the ones who are the subject of this matter so I feel they have the right to say how it makes them feel.
i think only mexicans are allowed to debate this. non mexicans have no right to tell them what they should feel towards this. if they see it as homage or disrespect imma respect their viewpoint.
BUT... i would love to see the reaction to a mexican boxer coming out with the black power colors (red green black) while rockin an afro wig with a fist comb sticking out LOL. personally I'd find it hilarious
You make some valid points.
In none of the photos you posted is the person in the sombrero about to fight a person of Mexican heritage.
Cheer up mate it's not that serious.

I’m not crying and I’m not offended by it.. I just think if Greg Haugen did it people would be pissed but when Roger Mayweather did it it’s a non issue

Regardless of the intent, it is a very ongoing phenomenon. Not just in boxing but in the entertainment world.
You don't see worldwide fighters coming in wearing a leprechaun outfit or a dashiki.
People just love wearing that big ass hat.

im pretty sure if a mexican did that everyone would label him "racist" tbh
This.
It was racist when Roger did it.
It was racist when Floyd did it
It was racist when Tank did it.
If Oscar wore a traditional African garb vs Ike or if Barrera wore a turban into the ring to fight Naz there would be issues
It's up to interpretation, and how you take it. It's hard to truly know the unspoken intent of others. If the people that do it say it's to pay homage, than that's probably the best way to interpret it.
Didn't Shane Mosley do it too?
Yes he did, fury aswell as well a few others. I updated my main post with more information. How this wearing of Mexico colors started and the intentions behind it.
Spike O’Sullivan did against Abreu. Ricky Hatton did against Castillo. Who cares! It’s WAR MEXICAN BIDNESS!
Yeah, its all business at the end which is why I think you don't really here people in the business complaining cause you know at the end of the day the only color that matters is green. BUT with that being said the Mexican people who aren't profiting from this are speaking out and saying they don't like it and it's disrespect.
Look up Roger the "black mamba" mayweather. He would use it to irritate mexican fans who wanted to see him beaten. It goes back generations in Floyd's family oddly enough. I don't think it ever was a racial thing though......
It’s very racial and it’s racist af.

Hoya has mexican parents. Hoya has Mexican family members directly from Mexico. Of course he is gonna wave the Mexican flag. Davis is not african. He doesn't ugandian parents Rwandan parents sudanese parents. So why would he rep the nationally of a place thats not his? Because he is black? In that case miguel cotto need to rep africa and wave the Congolese flag, gamboa, trinidad, Benitez, seriously What are u talking about bro. 🤣🤣
... because of business reasons, ODLH transferred his dates to Floyd...
Wearing a flag of your opponents nationality is hardly offensive my god.
If wilder wore the Union Jack I couldn’t give a damn. people are too sensitive
They just wanna cater to Mexican fans that’s all no disrespect I think
Exactly.
What is disrespectful is when Black people refer to everybody as Mexican despite many being Salvadoran, Honduran, Colombian etc.
It's definitely not meant to disrespect them, it's meant to really catch their attention as the Mexican fan base is the biggest fan base in north America. For some it's it's antagonistic, for others it's respectful, for other it's disrespectful, bottom line is that it creates controversy and that's always good for ppv sales.
blacks may try to use it to irritate but it might end of haveing the opposite effect.
There repping a mexican flag and bringing notoriety to it instead of there african flags.
lmao!!!!!!!! Tf
Yes he’s American which is a nationality but his race is African and who knows what else.
Just like Delahoya is American but of Mexican decent.
Get it?
