Some people suggest they should fight guys like Kavaliauskas and Porter. Hell no, they are not ready at all. Funny, how people say Porter is nothing special, but he won every round beating Formella, who is higher level opponent than S. Vargas or Abreu, for sure. It is fine to sympathize young prospects, but some of you are giving them too much credit too early. Kavaliauskas would maybe struggle badly with Ortiz jr. and Boots, but Porter beats them easily. This kids still need to develop their game.
I agree.
Boots is ready for a top10 opponent, i believe he would beat Porter aswell and if he dont its not a huge deal he just resets and climbs his way up the ladder again.
Boots needs a shot against any of the top welters at the moment.
Me too. I don't think much of Porter.
I’d have more faith in Vergil Ortiz if he wasn’t being trained by Robert Garcia who I consider a mediocre trainer. Damn it. Hope I’m wrong, too much negativity in my blood right now.
Not to say he wont be an awesome fighter and still get some good wins, just think Garcia can’t bring out the potential to create a star. He teaches everyone the same sht, it’s all about hands up, jabs Etc, fundamentals and being predictable. Don’t see Ortiz being the force he could be just wrecking fools.
Well thought out post. I agree.
Maybe Garcia has reached his ceiling as a trainer. He's pretty bitter these days too. I guess we are all bitter these days!
Personally, I'm still not sold on either Ortiz or Ennis. Maybe they should fight each other.
Green K.

He beats a bum like Abreu, who was not even in shape and he is ready for top 10 ww now?
If they have good chins I think they have a good chance to beat Porter now especially Boots. Boots is faster and hits harder and is more accurate with his punches than Porter and he averages just as many punches a round as Porter does. if they fought I would pick Boots to win, as slowly as they bring these guys along they will certainly have a few more fights before they fight a Crawford or Spence or a Porter.

Feed Jeff Horn to either of these guys. That would be a perfect stepping stone. Perfect punching bag to pad their KO streak plus a high profile opponent
Pac thought the same easy meat thing.
I love Ennis but I'm not a huge fan of prospects with contender records (20+ fights in) and the need for them to step up.
The number of fights indicates that he's had a lot of pro fights but he's yet to face a formidable opponent. No biggie but slow the kid down and get him better fights.
Guys like Canelo came into the mainstream with what, over 30 fights? Thing is, they moved Canelo like he was supposed to be moved so we saw progress in each fight. I'll be watching Ennis...gotta love Philly fighters!
neither need to be rushed
I would like to see Boots vs Custio Clayton who is Top 5 by the WBO and IBF and both Undefeated and trying to get to that next level so them in a IBF or WBO Eliminator would be Perfect
As for Vergil Ortiz, I think he is ahead of Boots as far as being more tested vs better opponents so I think he is more ready to jump in with the top guys at 147

How do Mean machine and Porter get grouped together lol? I’d say there’s a level between MM and Porter. I’d favor them against MM. Porter, not so much.

Both would utterly wipe the floor with Kavaliauskas. Why not have them fight Porter worst case is they lose a S.D type fight and they're still very young. They'd learn more from fighting Porter than they would knocking out a constant streak of no-hopers.
They both have good amateur pedigrees, let them off the chains! They're levels above the opposition they're fighting. Too many stick around fighting this level of competition for way too long and become stagnant.
I'm as impressed with Boots as I am Vergil but both have a long way to go. I see Vergil getting a title shot first because of GBP but I think both guys are future champions
Well with ennis he does need to step up the comp like one of u guys said vergil has been fighting contenders at least now. Yea with garcia vergil is gonna lack on defense if he were to come up against spence, thurman, pacquiao, an crawford. I feel he would be in 50/50 fights with porter an danny garcia

Don't bunch Vergil in with Boots. Ortiz has actually fought decent competition his last 4 fights stoping all of them by KO. Unlike Boots, Vergil also gets some of the best sparring on a daily basis in RGBA w/t the likes of Mikey Garcia, Jose Ramirez, Josesito Lopez etc... as the old saying goes “Iron sharpens iron”. Right now, Vergil KO’s mean machine in the later rounds. As for Porter, I bet on Vergil by decision as Porter style is tailor made for Ortiz, he loves fighters who come forward like Porter does. Not to mention Porter chin is suspect as he’s been knocked down by the likes of Broner a career 135 lbs.
