Two men who were P4P #1 at one point.
Roy Jones Jr
Best wins: Toney, Hopkins, Ruiz, Trinidad, etc.
Chavez Sr
Best wins: Camacho, Mayweather, Rosario, Taylor, etc.
In your view who was greater?
Roy had a great career but his opposition was limited his two best wins were against a green Hopkins and Toney.
Chavez had a much longer reign and most here are too new to remember when guys like Edwin Rosario, Roger Mayweather, Taylor, Camacho we’re p4p guys at the time and Chavez complete ran through them.
Chavez imo.
Roger Mayweather Top 10 P4P? :lol1: On what Planet?
Pretty sure only Meldrick Taylor was ever P4P out of those guys you listed.
What list are you going off?
- -U was never gifted save getting beat up as a kid.
You should have been born twins. No one person should have to be as dumb as you are all by themself.
Chavez was a much more complete fighter. Jones was all reflexes, once those went, Jones had nothing to fall back on. Chavez was one of the best all-around fighters I've seen. He performed at a super high level in footwork, effective aggression, punch selection, defense, chin, ring generalship. While he couldn't be called fast, he wasn't slow either. Chavez wasn't the number one guy in any single category, but he put them all in a complete package. And he was active.
Chavez is greatness but it’s like comparing Hakeem Olajuwon to Michael Jordan.
Both great and I mean great fighters, but MJ is MJ, Roy is Roy. In his prime the greatest I’ve seen.
His resume is all that holds him back from that #1 spot.
Chavez won one of the most memorable fights in boxing history. Roy Jones was more naturally talented but I think Chavez fought the better fighters. I started watching Roy until 1999, I just remember him fighting the likes of David Telesco, Richard Hall, Eric Harding, Clinton Woods... not impressed by those. I remember when he fought Julio Gonzalez, George Foreman was frustrated by him, he was this super talented fighter scared to mix it up with Gonzalez in the later rounds, Gonzalez was the one pushing the fight.
Roy by a mile, Chavez is great in his own right, but he’s overrated. Fought to many D level fighters and for some reason fans ignore that fact
Like Rosario, Ramirez, Taylor, Camacho, Mayweather, Gonzalez, LaPorte, Lockridge, Haugen...
Sure he fought some non-title bouts, but he fought and defeated many very good fighters.
Chavez carried the sport after Tyson and then ODLH was the face of the sport.
Jones was more talented and looked unbeatable and both guys were dominating.
Hard call. I call it even.
Two men who were P4P #1 at one point.
Roy Jones Jr
Best wins: Toney, Hopkins, Ruiz, Griffin, Johnson etc.
Chavez Sr
Best wins: Camacho, Mayweather, Rosario, Taylor, etc.
In your view who was greater?
Had to take Trinidad off there bro. He was absolutely shot at that point. Roy and Tito were two of my favourites and I hated watching their two shells square off.
