Look at this, if Vegas shuts back down due to Covid the guy arranged a deal with the UAE sheikhs to keep the party rolling.
Did any boxing promoter think of anything remotely like that? Bob Arum criticized Dana and now is probably burning with rage he didn't think of it, Eddie Hearns is trying to play catch-up.
Dana is a bigger Don King without the hair and the murder rap.
Peanuts earned is why decent fight cards get sorted, they need to go out to earn the crust, couple that with win, lose or draw making no difference..
Anyone beats anyone over a few rounds, be lucky punch, kick, takedown. The highest ranked could fight a barrel scraper rank 10 times, and there's a good chance win 5, draw 2 and lose 3 or near enough to that..
You wouldn't see that in boxing. The highest ranked will fight the barrel scraper 10 times and win pretty much 10 times...
UFC and the Macdonald's era are a match made in heaven...
His biggest impact was pointed out already by a poster here, making a loss seems like nothing, Jorge with 13 losses just did 1.3m PPV buys with Usman. Can you imagine a boxer with 13 losses headlining anything? Even a boxer with 1 loss is already referred to as a bum, exposed, career over.
He would find it harder in boxing due to the dumber fans and boxing politics, but I hope he tries and hope he is successful in getting us the bigger and better fight. But with managers and advisers around in boxing, I doubt he would be as successful due to the longer history of boxing.
I think the really ironic thing is he actually doesn't have 95% of the top talent in the sport, but that he has most people convinced he does. The likes of might mouse, cyborg & lima not being in the UFC kida prove that.
But your are right about their monopoly, when the vast majority of people think mma they think UFC, combine that with paying fighters around 18% of revenue and it is no wonder why they are the juggernaut they are.
If boxing promoters were making 4 or 5 times as much as they do like the UFC they might be more inclined to be spending money to get fights happening again, and if boxers where making a quarter what they do they might be a bit more pressured to take they fights offered.
It is what it is.
Except for Cyborg the UFC got the best years of those fighters.

I think its more like 2/3 of the top talent. Theres definitely a lot of great fighters outside of the UFC, including several that were proven at top 10 UFC level and left for reasons other than their performances (Mighty Mouse, Rory, Mousasi, Bendo, Cyborg, Bader etc).
I reckon Lima, Chandler, Patricio Pitbull, Amosov etc would all be top 10 in their respective divisions in the UFC too. Then theres that dude in ONE Nastyukhin who wrecked Alvarez.
I think his biggest accomplishment to this point was monopolizing the sport. He has 95% of all the talent in every division in the sport. That’s just crazy.

bobs biggest best fighter is acting like a ***** saying he wont take a pay cut to continue fighting the kavalikalus of the world,
boxers in general look like hoes right now
Boxers being shamed or their careers ending due to a few losses aren't even a real historical thing for boxing.
This is all the post-Mayweather era where he made his name and money flaunting his "0".
There have been past boxing stars including the GOAT who have 5 or more losses on their record.
Jorge would be a great Rocky like story for a boxer, someone dismissed as a journeyman who fights his way to a championship bout but yeah in the modern era he'd have been ran out of the sport.
I agree that a huge part of Floyd’s attraction was that people wanted to be there in case he lost. It helped him make money but I’m not sure how much it helped boxing for the fans if future fighters are all about trying to navigate a way to a high win no loss record over substance. We rarely see two young lions fight each other these days.
I appreciate the action and parity in the ufc but I also feel like their is very little stakes involved. It’s almost more like pro wrestling than boxing. Records don’t matter as much as getting “over” with the fans. So many ways to win or lose in ufc. Three round fights going to the judges...
The best job he has done is that losses don't seem to matter in the UFC, you can have 5-15 loses in the UFC but as long as you are entertaining inside or outside the ring the fights seem to sell well.
Jorge Masvidal not him but a Boxer with his win/loss record for example would be almost irrelevant in Boxing, would be in some good fights on under cards, might fight for and even win an alphabet world title at some stage but with that record it would be really unlikely for him to be a big attraction and i think that is a shame.

What's he like at boxing?
We'll probably find out sooner than later...
