I’m more of a casual UFC fan so I don’t know exactly how they are doing shows or what protocol they are following but...
Surely boxing can have shows the same way UFC are, right?
And you don't think that's killing boxing?
I think UFC fighters should be paid more by the UFC but even mid-level stars in the UFC like Jorge Masvidal and Colby Convington have much bigger social media presences and name recognition than these mid-level boxers who are making more in purses but can walk down the street without anyone giving them a second glance.
Nate Diaz and Masvidal probably combined made 10x less than Canelo but they got his fight pushed back to 1:30 am eastern.

Agreed. The UFC have got it made with their business model. They just got 700k+ PPV buys out of a card where the main event fighters got a combined purse of $850k, for comparisons sake Spence and Garcia got $3m each for a PPV fight that did 375k buys...
This is a perfect time to showcase non big names. It not like there are many upcoming boxers that sell out stadiums so I dont get it. Boxing has done studio fights with series like the contender so I am sure it can be done.
The most anyone made on UFC 249 was 500k. Meanwhile boxers expect at least 2 million to fight a tuneup.

no i def agree with you...white helped build the brand into a powerhouse....im just saying....for where he is now hes got it made....he doesnt have the issues a boxing promoter does(even the top dog big promoters)...
Overall thou your analysis is spot on.

The bigger names do. Loads of world champions earn considerably less than 7 figures though.
Huge factor.
So do you think it’s essentially a case of promoters not wanting to take a pay cut?
Errol Johnson (small hall UK promoter) was saying it’s impossible for small hall promoters to do shows without crowds but promoters with network deals should have no issue staging shows behind closed doors.
You guys are kinda silly. UFC is a company. Boxing is much bigger than that. Boxing just can't go out and green light something. There's so many moving parts.
Because Dana White went out and did it while boxing promoters did nothing but make fun of him for trying something different.
Now they’re all planning to copy his idea.
I hate mma and am not fan of White because of my personal bias. But he looks smart and everyone else looks dumb here.
Who is copying Dana's idea? And which idea is that? The Fight Island idea?
UFC rushed to be the first sport back in the U.S., and their event showed it. Protocols were ignored, safety guidelines were forgotten, UFC did the opposite of what they said they'd do just hours earlier.
Nobody is copying UFC's idea.
RJJ I do not believe rhe best of our sport will get up(motivated) for it.
I could be wrong. Also the site fee isa source of revenue for boxing g where MMA pays fighters a flat fee
Site fee’s are only substantial for the big fights though right?
Would a site fee even be a factor?
I think the pay gap between MMA and Boxing is definitely a factor. I don’t see the superstars fighting on a closed set behind closed doors but I don’t see why the lesser draws can’t stay active.

Cards like those for example...
so now you have the pbc pitting all their fighters against each other, giving each other losses, for less money....since they cant generate a live gate and other streams of revenue at the arena
you dont see how that would not be great for a promotional outfit? dana white isnt worried about that
PBC usually operate in house...
What revenue streams are you talking about aside from gate revenue?
Why not? They’ve done 3 shows, only 1 was pay per view.

That's true but it results in a better model for fans. The top guys will fight the top guys because Dana says so.
The only thing is that the UFC fighters should get the equivalent of a players union to increase their share of the pay. But as I mentioned it's a very fan friendly model boxing should pay attention to.
it is def a better model for the fans....boxing would def benefit from having one guy running it under one big umbrella....unfortunately it will likely never happen
UFC earned that spot thou tbh, they were not the number 1 ORG when PRIDE was around it was back in forth. OneFC also has a major footprint in Asia and they are in direct competition with them as well.

That doesn’t explain why they are able to produce shows during the pandemic though. PBC easily have a big enough stable to operate using solely in house matchups.

Boxing shouldn’t. If you want to be entertained by MMA guys right now that’s your choice. We should wait it out as long as possible. Sports are not essential.
There ain’t no furlough scheme for fighters though...
If they want to work and earn under safeguarding protocols they should be allowed to.

Because Trump and Dana are pals.
