The lad was born and raised there for starters
Even Lewis lived in the uk unit he was 10 or 11 and then went back as an adult
By your logic lad Obama isn’t American because he lived overseas as a child
he grew up in Canada, and learned boxing in Canada. He represented Canada in the Olympics. Funny how you revisionist Brits want to claim Lennox now when you wanted nothing to do with him as a pro.
i feel like ruiz hit joshua so hard in the first fight that it gave them all brain damage.
but in all honesty it's a small, insulated place and a lot of those guys come from several generations of inbreeding. go watch the jeremy kyle show and tell me those married couples aren't related by blood.
LOL man they start the worst threads and are very annoying on here, of course not all but its a plague amongst them
whats going on with the brits? why force it, just be great

when tyson was in his prime lewis was nowhere near ready to fight him. lewis is actually older than tyson by about a year. to through the timeline if you must. i'll give you a quick lesson.
do you really even know a lot about the division in the 90's? lewis didn't even have the support of the brits until he fought frank bruno. he was jamaican, fought for the olympic team in canada. lewis didn't gather the support of brits at all or gather a head of steam until he beat frank bruno in '93, while tyson was in prison. and he lost most of his momentum in his next big fight back in england, where he got knocked out by, you guessed it, an american named oliver mccall. lewis would not fight in england again until the turn of the century, six years later, and that was the LAST TIME HE EVER FOUGHT IN ENGLAND. brits didn't support lennox lewis until his career was well established and honestly, many of htem didn't really "claim him" until after he had retired. yall got some incredibly short memories and that's ebcuase you're not bright, old enough to remember, or willing to do the research.
it's just a fact that if you're well over six feet tall, muscular, and athletic that you'll be pressured into playing team sports both directly and indirectly. these kids get recruited from their mid teens. hell, we all knew who lebron james was when he was 15-16 years old and he had shoe companies waving around eight figure shoe contracts. lebron james secured a 90 million dollar shoe contract and turned down a nine figure contract. really! before he played a game of NBA basketball he was negotiating these contracts. he was on the cover of sports illustrated as a 17 year old.
it's very likely that deontay wilder would have gone to alabama to play basketball or football if he didn't have a sick child and need to make money. there are thousands of deontay wilders playing basketball and football in college right now. we are all deontay wilder.
UK is best boxing nation on earth. So small yet produce more numbers. Yes, nel o is best around supermiddleweight. But we've got bjs, eubank, Callum smith. Just more depth.
Lol @ the AJ supporters returning now that he won a decision over a short, pitifully out of shape taco truck man that knocked him silly. You idiots don't know that Wilder would KO Ruiz in a few rounds and never be in danger?
Well, consider yourselves informed now. Fkn home cooking morons, I swear.
Well the UK might be doing well on the HW scene recently, but the best HW trainers are without doubt american! I'd loved to have seen somebody with AJs natural boxing ability and punching power, being trained by Manny!
Because the big Americans go into other sports.... Brits didn’t get better America athletes went into higher paying easier sports.
... you're right, for sure...
If you want to take the easy route, you will never make it as a boxer.
You ain't got the mindset.
Very true. It’s hard to take someone out of another sport and put them in boxing. Boxing is such a different animal.
Let me sum this up for you
black population in the UK 1.85 million
black population in the US 42 million
So taking that into account, it is no excuse to claim 'we have other sports' because you also had those sports 40 years ago and were producing all the great HWs.
What it really comes down to is that the Americans during the cold war era, were really big on athletics, to compete with the Russians...and that's the context that produced the big American HWs.
Then gradually the rest of the world began to catch up.
Then the steroids era began..and in the aftermath the whole thing blew apart and the standards have dropped.
Yes. Getting hit on the field or blocked trying to dunk is a lot easier to recover from that knocked out in a ring.

What sports compete for big guys in the UK?
In the US I think bigger guys are being poached by many more popular sports where your chances of success are better than in boxing plus the downside isn't as bad. Boxing losing status in the US & the UK & other countries gaining ground hasn't helped either.
I think with all these quality ex-soviet states guys on the rise they will be taking over soon which likely means another HW dry spell is coming post this AJ, Wilder & Fury era.
Rugby, people also play basketball.
Don't know how it is in the US but as kids we play more than one sport.
I agree boxing is losing it's status in the US.
Where I live with in a 3 mile radius they are about 10 boxing gyms

Big American athletes are not taking the road less traveled. They're playing basketball and football. Americans will always produce the best athletes regardless of sport, period.
