Rick Glaser, veteran match maker, says he's discussed the event with respected boxing writers and and they both said the fight is totally dead and that there's zero demand for it.
He also says that the decision to put it on ppv was insane, as the event will swim in red ink.
We all knew this as no one really wanted to rematch anyway, and quite simply neither guy is a PPV draw at all.
Even if it was a financial disaster, it was still a wise investment. I'm far from a Wilder fan, but the way he finished Ortiz is what you need to build a cross over star. Wilder is a loud mouth country bumpkin, but the kids will like his brashness and Fox is marketing him heavily. Imagine Ruiz beating Joshua and then fights Wilder. If Wilder beats Ruiz and becomes the undisputed HW, there will be a big revival of boxing in 'Murica.
They deserve to fail for putting this crap on PPV. I hope somebody gets fired for this.
20 years ago Wilder-Ortiz would be an undercard of Regular HBO.
Why can’t people respect that Wilder is Rematching his toughest fight in recent memory with both Fury and Ortiz.
Also what is everybody’s obsession with how much or how little money any fighter makes?
They make millions and fucc dimes while y’all sit behind a computer screen and beat down keyboards?
If those purses are true (27 mil) whoever is paying them is a complete idiot. It was obvious the event wasn't going to get close to paying for them, even on the best day. They'd need it to sell 750K+ to turn a profit. :lol1:
Hopefully it sends a message.
Make real fights and promote fighters properly.
You may be able to fool a few ghetto dwelling uneducated Wilder casuals but not real boxing fans and the general public. Fair play to the Americans if it's true they didn't get sucked into this farce.
I get the feeling they know that Ruiz/AJ 2 is the only fight that matters in the division.
DAZN is subsidizing the event.
DAZN picks up Wilder-Ortiz rights in four territories
you obviously havent the slightest idea how inexpensive it is to buy overseas rights.......
what nobody knows is how much Fox is actually paying vs. how much Haymon/PBC is subsidizing the event. Anyone who thinks Fox is really paying out $30 million plus needs their head examined.
And MCC never ceases to crack me up. Haymon loses ("invests") over $500 million to develop his PBC concept, and he's a genius. Playin chess doe. But DAZN loses ("invests") probably less than $150 million to date to develop their concept and its OMG THEY ARE A DISASTER!!!!!
too funny.............

There is only 379 ticket left for sale?
Lowest ticket price is $304.
Nice try though.
Take off resale tickets and it’s nearly a wilder sellout.
Some of you should be banned for making up stuff.
shouldn't all you brittards be concerned with AJ not embarrassing himself and all of you again by getting knocked by a sloppy looking 25-1 underdog ? I mean...id spend less time worrying about wilders money/marketability and more with AJ mental health and boxing ability
lol....stfu guy....all you have to do is look around here and see it with your own two eyes.....most of these guys still believe wilder is making 2 mil a fight...I still see it daily "oh ya I forgot about the haymon side money blah blah"
most of these guys act like wilder is some peasant....they don't believe he even made 7 million against fury most of them...."hes no draw" blah blah....hes the highest paid us born fighter by a long shot
Thats in the US....no one give a fzck.
i love it...mr pauper wilder is banking 20 mil from this and the haters are in an absolute frenzy!!!! its hilarious to watch you clowns in a tizzy over wilder banking the big bucks....dude is by far the highest paid US born boxer.....and he made the 4th most money in the last year in combat sports!!! thanks to DAZN, AJ and hearn or whomever you clowns want to thank and feel is responsible!!! lol
you guys do realize that networks have had to take a loss on a fighter today in order to get a piece of something bigger later right? showtime took losses on floyd fights in order to have a piece of the big ones
some feel a fury rematch could do 1 million buys...if AJ gets the belts back and that fight could happen its huge....fox could have a piece of wilder/fury and or wilder/aj down the line ...they are betting and gambling too....but having a piece of those fights would be big if wilder keeps winning
All thanks to AJ, Eddie and DAZN wilder is making some good money now.
I think Showtime's reaction to this fight is probably the most telling. They took the pain of a loss in Wilder's last fight, I guess with the idea it was an investment. However I guess they looked at the actuals of the fight, re-did the calculation and decided this is a poor investment to make. For whatever reason, Wilder's popularity just isn't taking off comparatively speaking to the investment being made into him. I feel for him, (not too much, he's still bagging the 20m, regardless of worth or not!) he went on record talking about loyalty to showtime and in the very next fight, they decide he isn't worth the loyalty afterall. I do wonder if Haymon is now having to factor in Wilder fighting on DAZN, just to re-coup their own losses and keep his fighter earning the amounts he is now demanding.
Let’s be honest, none of us really know he financials behind it.
One thing i’ll say is i think they had no choice but to overpay him to save face, even if it’s taking a big financial loss. When he’s being offered $100m from DAZN and he’s one of Haymon’s biggest names, if they just let him go because they couldn’t compete with that, then i’d a massive knock in their status. It also sends messages to the other bigger name PBC fighters that they should consider jumping ship if they can, because it’d show PBC can’t compete.
So i think they were somewhat backed into a corner and had to overpay rather than everyone see their bigger names going elsewhere. They had to protect their image.

What? Same old narrative, take a loss now for bigger things in the future. What future? You talk like wilder is 21 years old and will hit the big time one day. He's in his mid 30,s and has had over 40 fights. He did get the chance at the big money already, HE RAN.
I'm happy wilders getting paid but let's be honest there is only 1 giant pay day for wilder and that's if he takes the B side offer from a massive A Side, Anthony Joshua.
Wilders money is going up but his numbers going down. It proves wilders getting paid but it certainly don't mean he's some mega star on equal footing of Joshua. And that's what all these money debates are about. Wilder demands 50 50 against somebody earning on a whole higher level than B side Wilder.
