Buddy Mcgert was going to throw towel in against yarde. That's how bad kovakev was in.last fight.
Plus kovakev had lost badly a few times before nel o beat kovalev.
Pac s wins greater especially historically. People have stepped up 2 divisions and won. Especially young lions like nel o was against past it fighters. What Pac did hasn't been done. Pac beating thurman killed 3 birds with 1 stone breaking records left, right and centre. Oldest WW ever, 3 time ww champ, etc etc
So it's a no brainer. But some people don't need excuse to debate the no debateable
Had nothing to do with Yarde or being hurt and everything to do with his fighter dying recently and Buddy being very sensitive to that.
People with no brains shouldn't be talking no brainer.
Oh my...
Bro losing to Andre Ward is not better than beating Porter or Garcia, those guys are also A level fighters. And Hopkins was 50 years old my friend.
Pascal and Alvarez? Those are Guerrero level wins. And what exactly is a killer? Someone who knocks out a 'ton of young lions) who you can't seem to name? Which promising fighters are you talking about? Anyone proven/recognizable?
You can't name me a better fighter than Porter or Garcia that he has beaten, but you're saying he has a better resume? Please explain this to me. And if we're including losses on resume, Pacquiao is an all time great, maybe I should include that as a win for Thurman cos it was a close fight?
Largely unproven welter? More like the #1, most proven welterweight in the world at the time brother. You're re-writing history. How many other unified welterweight champions can you name me from the last 20-30 years?
Canelo scored a KO because he had an easier opponent, despite going up in weight and lets not forget Keith is naturally bigger than Pacman.
Ward is a ATG dude, and so is Hopkins...
I will say it again... Kovalev's performance in that fight, when he arguably beat Andre fkn Ward... is better than anything either of those guys have ever done
Thurman is barely even a top 5 welter... I got him ranked #5
I was never sold on Thurman, and he has not looked the same since returning from injury/inactivity
a few miles on a killer... is much better than a few miles on a solid contender
again, who the fk did Keith ever hurt in the ring?
Oh my...

IMO this is all pretty transparent: Kovalev is shot and that's why Alavrez picked him. His chin is busted and he has stamina problems - nearly anybody who can survive into the 2nd half of a fight can KO him now. Kovalev probably also knows this, which is why he needs to cash out and retire - which is why he took the Alvarez fight. Unless Ward had come back to fight him again, Alvarez was the biggest money fight possible. Now he just needs to be smart and actually retire before someone like Beterbiev lobotomizes him.
Pac and his team also cherry-picked Thurman. Thurman isn't shot, but he was a good style matchup for Pac - a cautious, straight up & down one-two-from-the-outside kind of fighter. Exactly the kind of guy that Pac can outwork, and that will have trouble with Pac's angles and footwork. But there was still a huge risk that 40-year-old Pac actually couldn't outwork him, or that Pac would get caught with a huge counter like he did with Marquez.
Basically, Pac had to really work for that win, and get rounds against a younger guy that probably hits just as hard as he does at this point. Canelo really just had to tolerate Kovalev's jab for 6 rounds and tire out an older guy before lowering the boom.
Pac over Thurman was a way better win.
arguably, Andre Ward... you cannot somehow dismiss that fight bro
Kovalev's performance in that fight, when he arguably beat Andre fkn Ward... is better than anything either of those guys have ever done
he also beat Hopkins man, come on
Pascal/Alvarez, and a TON of young lions who were undefeated/promising fighters... and they all got viciously knocked out...
... Kovalev had a excellent run as champion, knocking everyone out... he was a killer... neither Garcia nor Porter are killers... and who the hell did Keith ever knock out?
the closest you can get to that would be Garcia's run at 140
Kovalev > Thurman... he is a better fighter and he has a better resume
the only question... is Pac winning at 40yo, against a largely unproven mid-level welter who has not looked the same since returning from injury/inactivity... more impressive than Canelo jumping TWO divisions, to beat a killer who has shown signs of slippage
in truth, the question will become more clear in time... when we see where Kovalev/Thurman go from here... how Yarde/Alvarez look against the other top LHW's... but I think that Canelos win is more impressive... I did not think that Canelo would knock Kovalev out, not after going 12 with guys like Golovkin/Chavez/Jacobs... and I was never sold on Thurman...
I thought Thurman's ' One Time ' was against Porter, who I would highly favor in a rematch... Porter would have been a better win for Pac
also... this is not a HUGE factor in my reasoning, but... Pac suddenly puts on his best performance in YEARS - since before he started testing in 2015 - in a fight that (bizarrely) had no VADA testing... ???
all I am saying is, Pac's next fight could shed more light on that unusual situation... and yes, it is unusual to have no drug testing for a world title fight in this day and age
that is NOT the main factor in my reasoning, so no big deal... just... strange, is all
in truth, the question will become more clear in time... but I think the proven/slipping achievement (Kovalev) beats the unproven/slipping achievement (Thurman)... especially considering the fact that the Pac/Thurman fight was close and Canelo stopped Kovalev
the fact that we are debating this proves how good Pacquiao is
that certainly was a good performance... but time will shed the correct light on both of those fights
Oh my...

Okay now I think you're trolling...
Shawn Porter is a better fighter than Kovalev, so is Danny Garcia. They have better resumes, this isn't an opinion. 'Barely' beating them is still beating them.
Kovalev's best win is indeed a loss to Ward. Some 'killer'. Keith and Spence look about the same level to me, they have different skills and traits but didn't Spence also 'barely' beat Porter?
Anyway, you didn't directly address my points. Who has Kovalev beaten anywhere near Porter or Garcia's level? Sure he's a killer when he's fighting low level comp and 50 year olds...
arguably, Andre Ward... you cannot somehow dismiss that fight bro

Thurman barely beat Porter... and that is likely his best win
hell, he barely beat Danny Garcia lol
Kovalev arguably beat Andre fkn Ward
Kovalev was a killer... Thurman is a never-was
I was never sold on Thurman... he is not the same level fighter as Spence/Crawford, etc... not even sure he would beat Horn at this point

LOL! A killer of what? C level opposition? Same way Thurman was a 'killer' when he was fighting lower level competition. It really isn't even close, Thurman is more skilled, has a much better resume and isn't a mental midget like Kovalev.
Who is Kovalev's best win? BHop's corpse? Pascal who even at his best was a B level guy. Has Kovalev beaten anyone even close to the level of a Garcia or Porter?
Thurman didn't look much different than usual against Lopez, he was a little less sharper but you get rid of that with rounds. Thurman has been hurt in a lot of fights, to take away from Pac's credit people just saying he didn't look the same but don't want to explain how he didn't look the same.
Kovalev has been getting sparked out since the amateur days, he was a good fighter a few years back but nothing more. Look at his resume. He barely beat Chilema (who is a good fighter) in his prime...
Thurman barely beat Porter... and that is likely his best win

oh wtf... ?
LMAO
FACT: Kovalev was a killer
FACT: Thurman was not a killer
wtf... ?
Kovalev > Thurman... NOT EVEN CLOSE
the only question is, how much did Kovalev have left... and the SAME question hung over Thurman, who has never looked the same since returning from inactivity
add to that, Canelo jumped TWO divisions and he knocked Kovalev out
the only other question is Manny's performance at 40yo
a number of 40yo's (or close) have beaten better fighters than Thurman... but very few people have jumped two divisions and knocked out Kovalev
A killer getting KOed by a pillow fisted 168er and a pillow fisted 175er. JFL has Thurman been KOed yet?

Any version of Thurman is better than any version of Kovalev. And the Canelo that fought Kova is in his prime, whereas Pacman isn't. No doubt which is the better win. Not even debatable really.

Pac Thurman super easy
Yup. Kovalev has been getting knocked out for half of his fights for awhile now. He’s done, basically. Ward ended him. Not a real fight. Just a cherry pick for the A side Canelo.
Canelo looked good, don’t get me wrong. But Pac/Thurman was a real matchup. And Thurman DIDN’T quit.

Pac by a mile to me. Thurman fought his heart out. Kovalev never threw a hard punch the whole fight that I saw and did not fight like a guy who was trying to win the fight in my opinion.
