Shawn's seems like a good guy with a good disposition, so I doubt that he's been damaged by his dad's "drill sargent" approach to teaching. That said, maybe a different trainer with a different approach , might be good for him at this point in his career.

That's how trainers are supposed to talk to their fighters. They are preparing for a fight, not baking cookies. That said, if he is teaching Shawn what I think he is, Kenny's gameplan is shyt and is going to actually make it easier for Spence to stop Shawn. Yup, you don’t play boxing. If you have to be rough on your fighter to keep him from getting KTFO, so be it. If you can go 12 rounds but can’t take some tough words then you need to just leave lol

I saw nothing wrong with anything he said..trainers talk to boxers worse who they arnt even related to Haven’t watched the video, but that’s what I was thinking. How bad could it be? When I was young if I was half assing it in any practice or training or whatever I would have been chewed out by my trainer/coach and then chewed out just as badly by my dad on the drive home, and that MF scared me lol And Teddy Atlas has pulled burners on two of the people he’s been training....so yeah...and as ****ed up as that is, I used to watch teddy in the corner with how he talked to his fighters and thought that he would be the type of trainer that I would excel under. Different things motivate different people. We aren’t all built the same.

They don't go to gyms so they don't know. Trainers will talk about yo mama while you're training but when it's over it's back to normal. The preparation is not only physical it's also mental It must be a well kept sercret because I have seen a few hundred videos of trainers training their boxers and never once seen them treat their boxer that badly or talk to them as if they were talking to 10 year old.

That last scene is one big show by Kenny Porter and his Ego, he wants us to see that he is attempting to teach Shawn things and it's Shawn who just can't apply it. It's Kenny way of saying "See it's not my fault, look", I bet he personally made sure to tell them to include his clip. No way do they ever show sessions like that. Unless told by someone. Then he tried to also show off by having Shawn hit him to the body with no protector, and Shawn was like "Wtf I am not going to hit you" clearly this is something they never do, it was Kenny attempting to show out for the camera. I have never seen a trainer talk to his fighter like that. Shawn should tell him to back off. He should stand up to him. He looks mentally weak when he puts up with being talked to like that by anybody. Benavidez just toyed with Porter and hit him at will whenever he wanted. He took it easy on Porter and could have dropped him at any time.

I can see what Kenny's getting at. Backing up just creates space for Spence. It would be better to move off at an angle versus jumping straight backwards. At the same time Shawn isn't a natural counter-puncher. If he's not doing it already he's definitely not about to gain that ability in just 1 camp and start countering a great right jab like Errol's, BUT it's better than not doing anything at all and just letting Errol jab at will. It's an uphill battle for Shawn any way you slice it. He's trying to light the fire under his son, and get him to see what he see's, so I get Kenny getting on Shawn's case.

They have a great relationship, he gives his dad complete control so I have zero issues here.

Kenny is far too desperate to live vicariously through his son. Based on his life experiences, I can understand why Kenny is determined to be so heavily involved in Shawn’s career and life though.

It’s a fine line he’s walking and the trainer knows how to push u to get the most out of u some u have to baby and stroke the ego and some u have to put your foot in they behind
