Canelo has really come into his own since his rematch with Golovkin. He's reached a level of craft that I think everyone can say has instated him to the top of the p4p rankings. I find it interesting though how it isn't until now do we see his boxing craft develop so exponentially. His shot selection, tenacity, poise and overall professionalism has made a huge leap to where no of us will be surprised if he stops a full sized light heavyweight knockout artist. H3ll it wasn't too long ago at all that he was going the distance with blown up welterweights and light welterweights in competitive fights with the likes of Cotto. I guess the basis of my discussion is, is Canelo a late bloomer in terms of where his craft really took off? Ruminating about Duran, Leonard, Floyd, Pernell, Trinidad, Cotto, Pacquiao, etc.. I think you'd have to say.. yeah?
This fight with Kovalev is a very good one BUT what exactly has he done to make him some kind of ATG candidate already? Arguably couldn't beat GGG and beat Jacobs and Fielding with special weight restrictions. Got some pretty good wins at Caneloweight but not great ones.
I don't put too much credence into when and how much these guys moved up and mainly judge it on how big of a presence they were at any given weight. Cotto was running guys over at 140. Canelo was going the distance in close competitive fights.
Im not talking about it in terms of moving up, just as a reference point. Because at 140 Cottos biggest win was Paulie M. So at 26 years of age, Cottos biggest win was Paulie M. Cotto wasnt really an early bloomer. Canelo was more so. Canelo at 27 had his first GGG fight and his whole resume before that.

Since Alvarez's MD over GGG, he's had victories over Fielding and Jacobs.
That says nothing about ATG status, except he beat a paper champ and a Golovin retread.
Hes elite, and world class in some divisions, but ATG is way out of his jurisdiction for now.
I do not think he can beat Kovalev a proven elite at LHW.
And no not a late bloomer, I dont think hes even 30 yet?
Is Canelo a late bloomer as far as ATG standards go?
(...)
... Canelo a "late bloomer"???
... Canelo was a WBC Light Middleweight Champion at 21 yo... :)
... I think that canelo will even be around at 32-33 yo... :)
canelo is a late bloomer as far as weight goes.
“I’m not a middleweight,” Alvarez said when discussions veered to a potential showdown with IBF and WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. “I’m a super welterweight. That’s my weight class. I wanted to fight this time for some sort of title at super welter.”
Now he’s fighting at 175 ffs. Was he really THAT scared of moving up to fight GGG?
GGG has a new coach he is scared of fighting him AGAIN.
I don’t want to want to be a hater but i also don’t want to forget this bullsh.t this guy has pulled in the past and is still doing it.
Imagine if Carl Froch was Mexican... he'd be a billionaire , a Saint and President of Mexico with 0 losses.
FFS this forum is either full of trolls or the fans really are that delusional.
Ridiculous.
His only convincing wins are Amir Khan, Liam Smith, Rocky Fielding and James Kirkland.
I'm scratching to think of a fight he won convincingly.
Then he had the robbery wins.
Then the PEDs.
FML are the Mexican fans that dumb?
The delusion of Canelo fans is at a All Time High Right Now
Canelos Good But he isn’t and never will be a ATG / Guys has just been included in the top P4P lists and it took 2 Gifts to get there , Now Mofos want to talk about him being a ATG
Be Honest with Yourself / If Canelo was Judged fairly like every other Fighter He’d Have Ls every time he fought the Best , 147 ( Mayweather ) 154 ( Lara ) 160 ( Golovkin ) . Is that ATG
How many ATGs get popped for PEDs during their Prime ?
What ATGs have fought all their HOF Opponets when they were over 35.
Take a Look at any fighter you consider a ATG / Look how many gifts they needed to maintain the illusion of Greatness / Look at the when they fought their best Opponets/ Now go Compare that with Canelo.
There’s a difference
- -Always comedy when soft lads gather to discuss boxing.
At age 29 Moneyfraud was KDed by the disgraced Judah recently whooped by Baldomir out of Lord of the Ring and then toasted Baldy hisself.
Win, lose, or draw vs Kov, Canelo light years ahead of Mayboy in competition.
Too many close fights and gift decisions for him to be ATG people throw that term around casually
It seems like popularity can make people forget or cloud their judgement.
Dude has had only 2 fights after the GGG rematch tf lol
#CaneloGGG2: Great performance by Canelo but imo & I believe the majority he lost that fight.
#CaneloFielding: That fight was such a joke as far as I'm concerned that shìt never happened. It proved absolutely nothing & I'll likely never watch it again.
#CaneloJacobs: Imo the most important win of his career. Clear win but nothing I'd consider as dominant or overly impressive. I was more impressed with his loss in #CaneloGGG2 than this in terms of his performance.
I don't see the major growth from the GGG rematch, if anything I see regression but I definitely don't see the growth. I think it's way too early to make a thread like this & act as if he's improved leaps & bounds since the GGG rematch, but that's just me.

Cutting weight makes you weaker and phucks with your stamina, I expect canelo to be strong and carry his stamina better at 75
Yes and no.
Yes in terms of the previous generations. You had guys like Tyson, Floyd, Hearns, Foreman ect, just in general those guys in their early 20s had accomplished a lot.
I think Canelo is ahead of Cotto though. Looking at it, Cotto didnt move up to 147 until he was 26. Canelo is only 29 now, his early record is better than Cottos.
For present day fighters, a lot of these guys are starting later and later. Look at most of the top guys in boxing, they are all in their 30s and Canelo has a better resume than anyone but Pac who is older generation. At 29 now Canelo has a stacked resume for the modern age. Crawfrod, loma, Fury, wilder all in their 30s. Spence and AJ are 29, same age as Canelo and his resume chits all over theirs.
