I saw that one as well and my point still stands.
Artem stated that all he really suffered in the Knight fight were face lacerations which healed relatively quick. He fought Paulie not too long afterwards.
I always use the example if someone told you to punch a brick wall would you swing harder with or without gloves?
A fighter will always hit harder with gloves full stop.
Which is exactly why opting for bigger gloves in professional fights will get more fighters killed or hurt.
I don't know man, have you watched much bare knuckle boxing?
Paulie's fight aside, the theoretical advantage of less hand padding is somewhat undone by the fact they both stand in the pocket and just swing for the fences lol.
There's a good reason why headgear has been removed in amateur fights.
Head gear prevents cuts and bruises but it doesn't protect the head from concussions. It also gives the receiver of the punches a false sense of security which makes them less defensive and go for points. There are significantly more fights stopped because concussions in amateur fights in which head gears are used.
Bigger gloves work the same way with the additional "benefit" of the hands being more protected which makes fighters receive more sustained damage throughout a 12 round fight.
Making gloves bigger won't make boxing safer and seems like a bad idea.
Thats why I said Paulie's fight aside, have a look at artem lobov vs jason knight, it was brutal, just rockem sockem robot style.

Those are all "superficial" damage and cuts.
I guarantee you AJ took more longterm damage in his 4 knockdowns concussed fight against Ruiz than Paulie took against Arterm. Despite AJ still looking pretty.
Both Artem and Paulie broke their hands so they couldn't even swing at full power by the end of it.

Also more brain damage.
Bigger gloves only reduce cuts. People are able to punch harder and more consistently and cause more signficant brain damage.
Bare knuckle boxing is actually safer. The skull is much harder than the bones in the hand. People would break their hands first before causing significant damage

Bigger gloves are actually worse for a fighter's long term health. If you think about it you are just adding more weight to a fighters fists.
If more CTE is the goal than yeah let's go with bigger gloves.
I actually wonder if the older fighters from the Marciano and Joe Louis era dealt with less long term brain issues since they fought with smaller gloves?
And here I thought this thread was going to be about the safety of the fighters. You know OP, I don't know if you're aware, but there's this sport called Amateur boxing. Maybe you've heard of it. It's 100% points fighting. I think you'll love.
