This is a tricky one.
If he looses the rematch, it is all over. He will be Price 2.0, and I cannot see him not retiring.
If he doesn't take the rematch, he is likely handing all the belts to Wilder and he won't be in the position to get himself any kind of a deal even if Wilder decides to fight him. However, maybe it would be not smart to even consider fighting Wilder without a proper rebuild.
What do you think he should do?
Rematch. He has the size, skills and power. He has to make some adjustments and more than likely they can get Ruiz to fight in the UK.
If Ruiz has his number so be it. There is no shame in losing if you can regroup, adjust and come back. If he wins convincingly he will gain track again.
It work for Lewis and it worked for Wlad
If he don’t rematch him immediately he will never see those belts again. Al haymon probably throwing fury to the way side and put Ruiz in there for the wilder fight after Ortiz.
I think Hearn knows this and is allready saying December and is willing to put Joshua back in there even tho Joshua might mentally not be ready because he won’t get the shot again for atleast a long time or have to deal with getting raped by wilder in negotiations if wilder jumps at the Ruiz fight that seems allready evident.
He needs to fix whatever's wrong, take on a bum or two, and then avenge his loss to Ruiz. It's an easy fight to make. And he probably doesn't want any part of Wilder (I wouldn't) or even Fury. Just line up Ruiz and a bunch of bums and collect your money like almost everybody else in the post-Floyd world.
I think he should hire a new trainer and like a poster said go the Wlad route. If he wants to be the best HW in the world he needs to improve enormously especially now people realise he’s very beatable.
The problem is that Imo Wlad always had the physical attributes to be great he just may not have know how to use them properly. I think Joshua is limited physically. He body type means that he’s incredibly stiff, he doesn’t have any snap in his punches he just pushes them out and they’re telegraphed. When he gets wobbled he’s unable to box smart and he seems to lose all his energy and becomes a static target (which can last for rounds)
I personally think he’s too stiff and slow to outbox a good swarmer for 12 rounds and therefore has to open up and trade but that comes at a high risk.
he quit and really doesn't deserve a rematch, he should avoid it and get better he doesn't have what it takes, get a new trainer win some fights, get Robbie barrett n the gang back talking sht about how amazing he is and then maybe step up again
He has to go for the immediate rematch. If he wins the rematch, he can try to brush the loss off as a misstep that he grew from to get better.
But if he doesn't take the rematch. Haymon is going to have Ruiz fight Wilder. Then, Joshua may never get another shot, and if he does, he'll be bringing very little to the negotiating table.
Joshua needs to have a rematch by the end of 2019, and he probably needs to win by stoppage.
This is a warrior's sport.
100% rematch ASAP and knock Andy out in spectacular fashion.
Pull yourself back together and avenge this defeat; your reputation is in danger.
You think AJ can sell out in UK if he doesn't fight the rematch? Can he keep his sponsorships and network deals?
That is why it’s tricky. Either risk it all to regain most of what he lost or rebuild slowly over 2-3 years without expecting the same treatment.
He was close to the victory, it's not like his chances are low to win a rematch. I'd say go for it but make effective changes in everything. Preparation, gameplan, mindset etc.
Joshua said many times he plans to box for another 8-9 years. It might be better if he skipped on the rematch. What would he do if he looses again - risk is too high even if it is not likely he loses.

Joshua was labeled "the best finisher" in boxing by many.
Titles like that come with a responsibilty. When you charge people to watch you fight.
He needs to come back and whoop Ruiz and many others for redemption, or just acknowledge that he was a part of hype job that got out of hand, and hang it up.
We will find out what he is made of now that he is an underdog. Greatness can still be achieved but the road just became a lot harder for him.
I say you follow the wlad plan. Be honest you need to fix things. Fire McCracken and get with a trainer who can teach you how to jab and work off it and who can help with your defense. Get a conditioning expert to increase your stamina. Then fight a bum and then whyte or another winnable fight to get your buzz back and then rematch Ruiz.
Remember wlad didn't fight Brwester right away after he KHTFO. he fought like 5 guys before the rematch.
He have to take it specially with how AJ and Hearn handled negotiations with other fighters when he was the "star" I doubt they will get any favors from anyone
If they don't trigger the rematch clause AJ will be forced to sign a CO promotion deal and take short money to get another title shot
Now from what I am hearing and I don't know if this is true or not because only Eddie Hearn and Al Haymon know but the rumors have that there was no rematch clause in the contract. Both Joshua and Ruiz have hinted at this as well as have Deontay Wilder.
However, if this indeed true then Eddie Hearn has just shit out of luck. If it was me I would be more than willing to give Anthony Joshua a rematch because he gave me an opportunity to win the titles from him.
However there is also boxing politics involved here. The question is, if you were Al Haymon and held all the heavyweight title belts in your stable, would you allow your fighter to rematch a guy he just beat or keep it all in house; In order to hold a tournament between your own fighters for that undisputed crown?
Hmm, that's a very good question.
