Which was the performance that made you go "WOW, here we go, Ortiz is legit". Each top fighter has one, people may disagree which fight that actually was. Lewis had Ruddock for me, that fight nailed it Lewis was legit. Joshua had Klitchko, as did Fury. Wilder had Ortiz himself although i wish Ortiz had been in fighting condition rather than a medically worrying one.
With Ortiz its tough theres so many good names. Dave Allen was a great win. Monte Barrett? Solid fighter. Hell you could consider Wilder, he lost but Wilder got dodgy recovery time and at one point was a whisker away from getting stopped by Ortiz. But no you cant call a loss his coming out party.
Id have to go with Bryant Jennings. Im sure we will all agree that Jennings is one of the best of this generation, well he took Wlad 12.
Some degenerate Wilder fans actually try to tell us that Ortiz was such a gifted amateur and when you actually check out his amateur record you realize he was pretty much garbage.
Ortiz lost 7 times to Odlanier Solis in the amateurs and never won a meaningful title.
In the pros he has a record of 0-1 vs former or current champions.
Also Ortiz is fat, very old, has very high blood pressure and is barely medically fit to compete.
You are a ******. Wilder fans and ortiz fans are not mutually exclusive. Lots of pros had crappy amateur records. Ortiz barely lost any rounds as a pro, his skills are undeniable no matter who he faced. We can play who he fought game with anyone, even ruiz who is fighting aj on sat
Joshua
Fury
Wilder
Whyte
Povetkin
If you have Ortiz over any of those you don't know **** about boxing. But i know you don't anyway.
And if I say top 6 you ****** Will include Parker and complain again. I'm not mad if you put him sixth.
Definitely Jennings when it happened. To blow through Jennings after he had looked very tough and durable against Wlad was a huge statement and I seem to remember thinking that he may have been the best HW in the world at the time.
Not really a coming out party, but I took note after the Lateef Kayode fight.
Don't get me wrong Kayode ended up just being a bruiser who didn't have a lot of skills - but he somehow went 12 with Tarver (an ancient on PEDs Tarver in an awful fight, I know)
but for me it was still pretty satisfying to see how Ortiz handled him in the 1st round and cleaned that up. Clearly there was something there to continue to watch out for
Other than that, it probably wasn't until the middle of the Wilder fight

Obviously Jennings, It the TV coverage that helps them get notice.
Shame that happened when he was already in decline.
Lennox was always tipped for big thing, Olympic Gold Medalist.
I always thought he would be world champ and beat the likes of Tyson, Bowe and Holyfield.
I remember him beating Gary Mason thinking this. But his wow fight was Ruddock because of the tough fights he gave Tyson and Lewis demolished him with ease.
With GGG was his fight with Proska.
But then you get fighters like Pacquiao who have several wow moments. Ledwaba, Barrera, De La Hoya, Hatton and then Cotto
marco huck fight was povetkins coming out party...when he got mashed by a cruiser and was holding on to hucks waist to stop from falling face first to the canvasi think this thread was about Luis Ortiz fam. I don’t see anything about povetkin
Jennings like Shane Mosley jr said. Jennings was respected at the time and wlad had put pulev down four times and wrecked him not long before jennings took him 12 and made him work. People were questioning if wlad was sliding after that fight I remember it clearly. Due to Jennings competetive nature. In retrospect it may have been true. But even recently Oscar Rivas an Olympian and decent fighter took a long time to get rid of this modern version if Jennings so the Ortiz victory is still respectable. And it was yeah the devastating nature in which Jennings got stopped. Fury admitted Ortiz is the boogey man, No one took a fight against him. Whyte has even rejected an eliminator to fight him. Many upon many thought he had wilders number. Let's not try discredit things in retrospect. Ortiz is undoubtedly a top 10 hw and arguably top 5. Which makes him a very good win on wilders record whether haters like it or not. I'm in the fury camp if I had to pick out of the big three but I give credit when and where due to all of them why can't that be the norm. I'm only disparaging about any of them when arguing with an overly zealous supporter of one and detractor of another, I will play devils advocate in the defence of either of the big 3. I am 27 the klitschko era was my dominant era and I enjoyed a lot of 90s boxing even as a kid. Naz was my first boxing love though a vhs of his greatest hits and highlights..And the tail end of Tyson...but my point is let's just enjoy this heavyweight era it is so much more lively than when wlad and klitschko were dominating things with defences against the likes of sosnowski or whatever that polish bum was called and John marc mormeck. The prospects the champions the narrative of current times is enjoyable. Let's put aside the rhetoric and vitriol and enjoy our mutual love of this great sport.

Some more top class whataboutery from curt there.
Won't answer the question... But i'll use the powers of deflection to express my own subjective opinion.
Boring

You made me check to make sure i hadnt put Povetkin in the thread title and not Ortiz. But no, just another deflective answer. And i dont know why you deflecting it wasnt the toughest question anybody is going to be asked.
