Last night I was sitting back watching the card which make no mistake was a PPV level fight. I didn’t have to spend 80$ nor did I have to find sone **** link to watch it. That in itself makes DAZN awesome. Assuming they keep signing fighters and don’t just start splitting them up and having them all face easily winnable fights to extend the content I love what’s happening.
Beyond that tho and maybe it’s just me but it just feels like the production value and immersion of the event is lacking. Maybe it’s cause I’ve been spoiled with HBO doing fights and same with Showtime both of which have fantastic production. I’m not even sure what it is the announcers, camera angles, the graphics the yellow colors (which I hate) you name it the point is I just never feel immersed or like I’m watching a high budget content like I do with HBO and Showtime and to a lesser extent ESPN.
Just out of curiosity what do you guys think am I being unfair, unrealistic, is it because they are still learning and looking for their niche? I’m rooting for DAZN I just hope they can find their stride and make their events as immersive as other networks.
It was their first big fight, so I expected inexperienced wannabe producers who are starting from scratch.
I saw the same amateurish production when ESPN had theirs, which was Pac vs Vargas.
very true espn has come a long way in short time since FNF finished
I have DAZN, I could have watched it at home but chose to go watch it at those recliner theaters that serve beer with my nephew. I haven't seen it on my TV yet but I was disappointed at the quality in the theater, the Mikey Spence fight looked cleaner in the same theater, this Canelo fight, there was one camera that looked blurry, just that one camera, the others looked sharp but a little off color compared to the Mikey fight, which looked bright and vibrant colors. Maybe it's who ever setup the projector messed it up this time.
The announcing team sucks.
This DAZN production gave me those ESPN Friday Night Fight vibes.
I can accept the production though if they got better announcers.
Is there any difference between DAZN GBP and DAZN Matchroom USA productions? Sky was OK otherthan a failure to recognise the defences efforts of both initially. I lied Froch's and Coldwell's inputs.
DAZN has some work to do it didnt give off the big fight feel. Nobody puts on a big boxing event like HBO did!
DAZN needs to rehaul their entire commentating crew they all suck!!
Also, the audio wasn't good. The punches landing and sound around the ring wasn't right.
I am a big fan of what DAZN is trying to do but that **** had an amateur feel to it compared to HBO, Showtime, or the UFC.
Completely agree with that, never really felt the crowd much. It all felt a bit subdued.
More than anything the broadcast was low energy and didn't have a big fight feel. The lighting also isn't par to say Showtime and I didn't get why no replays were known between rounds. What was the reason for that? The audio around the ring didn't pick up sound of the shots like other networks do, but this was their first big show. Let's see how they adjust. To their credit, they already made a change to the broadcast team once it became clear that SRL just wasn't cutting it in that role.
Next big show is the Joshua fight. That's where I'm interested in seeing what changes and tweaks they make, if any.
I was gonna say it just felt a little "off" but couldnt pinpoint what it was until saw your post. Camera angles were a little off and didnt realize no replays... wtf?? I subscribed for the month, so hopefully see some changes for the Joshua fight. IMO not a fan of the gray canvas either they've had on some other fights.

That fight seriously lacked a big time fight feel. It felt nothing like HBO or Showtime.
I made a thread about the lighting as well. They had the stadium so bright you could see everyone in there. Usually it is much darker on the outside of the front rows with the boxing ring lit up for contrast.
Nothing about that event seemed to be anywhere near HBO or Showtime. The commentary, audio, lighting was all lower tier.
Considering the #1 trending on Twitter last night was Dazn Sucks I’m pretty sure they lost all consumer confidence.
uS boxing fans are typically older. They are not going to use Dazn.
Especially when you are trying to lure the casual fan. Boxing fans don't need DAZN to watch fights. We are going to watch the fights no matter what. However, if they are serious about expanding the popularity of the sport; Perhaps putting it on the internet while taking it off television may not have been the wisest of choices. Boxing could be easily lost in the shuffle this way and remain an isolated and niched sport.
Great post bro. I think they should just start their own network like ESPN. DAZN should have a cable and streaming service. Relying just on streams is a disaster waiting to happen.
Interview some fighters, or you know do what everyone else does and show replays of the previous rounds action.
yeah they barely had any replays inbetween rounds. There was one time they were talking about a big shot Jacobs landed and I missed it during the round, distracted or whatever. Im waiting for the slow mo replay while they were talking about it after the round and it just never happened, WTF guys, what is this 1936 and Im listening to a fight on the radio? Have the replays ready.
Putting a niche sport like boxing on a stream is going to have some hurdles. Not to mention it’s the same cost as cable and PPV when you Especially when you are trying to lure the casual fan. Its production is definately lower than HBO and showtime. I would be happy with some minor tweaks considering its much cheaper.
1. stop ****ing around inbetween rounds and just show the corners. No commercials for upcoming fights or other stupid chit.
2. Get rid of SRL, they cant even use him for live coverage and he never even answers questions directly, hes terrible on there so whats the point? I dont need a "so sugar, what is the pressure like for jacobs in a fight of this magnitude?" - sugar "i like big fights, thats what i lived for" stupid ass non answers. And his plastic surgery and makeup creep me out. Id rather have literally any other fighter in his place, even lennox lewis.
3. Stop showing the stupid ceo/producer for their 24/7 knockoff, who gives a chit. Show him once if you want but not like 12 times a night. Why would I care what he has to say, they were even interviewing him inbetween rounds, WTF. Go interview some fighters in attendance or something.

That internet excuse is what’s turning people off. People have upgraded to fiber optic 100mbps just to stream DAZN and they still have problems. It’s not the internet. I totally agree with you. DAZN needs to up their ante and fix their technical glitches. It's a turn off to both the viewer and the consumer. There are a lot of DAZN consumers who are complaining about the very exact thing; Having a weak stream. They better fix it in a hurry because customers are not going to pay $20 per month or a $100 per year for some botched up service.

However, one has to keep in mind that it's an online streaming broadcast as opposed to a television broadcast. Which means that drawbacks will inevitable.
For example, depending on the Broadband speed and internet connection there is going to be some pauses, interruptions and buffering from time to time; Especially if one is using a cable router.
