Hopefully I never see Jim Lampley again in this life. I can honestly say that he's absolutely the worst commentator of all time.
Does he have a plan b? Because whatever it is, I don't want any part of it.
He's been inducted to the hall of fame so he'll probably retire now. Nothing else left to accomplish. He was the best blow by blow guy, but he could infuriate at times with his analysis, as most commentators do in any sport. His voice has become the voice of boxing for more than a decade in our household. He'll be missed.
The article says that Lampley is still with HBO.
Ward, RJJ, Max, and Harold are the ones that were let go.
Lampley probably has a contract for his show the fight game.
Whether they produce new episodes or not is uncertain, but he will be employed by them until that contract runs out.
Judging by Michael Buffers comments about only being hired event to event and never having been under contract with HBO, leads me to believe that the entire commentary staff was probably on an event to event basis as well, otherwise we probably never would have seen Max on ESPN.
I dunno. Lampley would be the 'freshman' joining any of the other broadcasting crews and I don't think his ego can handle that. I really hope he goes away but HBO might keep him on for the Fight Game if the show is cheap enough to produce.
