I just rewatched the fight, was impressed with Wilder's confidence to recover from Ortiz's punches. His punches are dynamite but his technique is still not great. That's why I don't think he gets past Fury.
It was the best win in Wilder's resume. Ortiz came to fight and gave him a heck of a fight. He could have beat Wilder if it weren't for the ringside shenanigans by the medical staff checking on Wilder. To this day that whole thing left me confused and frustrated because it took away precious seconds from an Ortiz that could have gone for the kill before gassing like he eventually did.
Ortiz is an elite heavyweight and he's up there in age but at heavyweight where power is arguably the biggest factor, it doesn't really matter.
wtf are you even on about.
Wilder fans are literally saying Ortiz is the next coming when all he's done in his entire career that's worth mentioning (amateur and pro) is losing a competitive fight to Wilder.
WTF are you talking about. Did you even read my post properly.
OK well again lets see the other Heavyweights jump in with Ortiz and lets find out. Fans would rather Assuming how things go rather than actually see it out of fear that things won't go the way they want it to go. Me personally, I would much rather see these guys jump in the ring and actually PROVE their the best.
WBC Ordered Ortiz vs Whyte and he went with Parker. When Ortiz name come up to Big Baby Miller he tend to brush that off and call him "Old"
Well, when you're given a chance against guys you're supposed to look good against and you stink the place out, the natural next step is not to say "Oh well, let's not assume he'd be boring vs AJ" :lol1:
He got his chance and blew it. Then he was handed a free shot at Wilder and got knocked out.
Would like mind if he fought some of the other top heavyweights? no. but i'm not demanding it as there are plenty of other fighters who have done more to deserve it like Whyte, and other fights I'd rather like to see like AJ vs Wilder.
If AJ fought Ortiz and laid him out in 3 rounds, Wilder fans would be the first to say "he's gotten old" or "he wasn't the same as when he fought Wilder" or "he's just Wilder's damaged goods" and we all know this would happen.
So why bother?
Solid win. Wilder was sick before the fight and came underweight.
If AJ or Whyte would had fought Ortiz then it would had been and excellent win for some people here. Because it was Wilder they minimize it.

Based on what? He was grassfed guys like Malik Scott and Dave Allen and stunk the place out.

cause its the first guy wilder fought he wasnt an absolute scrub so theyve gone way over the top with it. anyone with a pair of eyes could see how much he was slowing down against allen and scott, he was there for the taking.
I can tell you didn't watch those fights and are just repeating something you saw or heard.
Let me get you straightened out.
Malik Scott ran for 12 rounds.
NO ONE would have looked good against him that fight.
NO ONE would have knocked him out that fight.
Malik DID visit the canvas so often he could have gotten his mail delivered there.
6 or 7 legit KDs, but only 3 ruled officially, it was as one-sided a fight as you would want to see.
As for Allen, Dave admits Ortiz hurt him badly. And, he says Luis hits harder than AJ, and he should know. And, oh yeah, that was the same Dave Allen that went 12 with Dillian just 5 months earlier- Ortiz got him out of there in 7.
It was a great win for his career. Ortiz is one of the most skillful heavyweights in the current crop, plus southpaw to boot. I honestly thought Wilder was gonna struggle and he did. What surprised the hell out of me was that he still managed to get it done. Even after recovering from a flu and dropping a decent amount of weight. Ortiz had like a 30+ weight advantage.
Seriously, by Wilder wiping out Ortiz, he probably cleared out one of the top 3 most skillful fighters in heavy division. I would actually consider Tyson Fury up there also. The dude can frustrate and make himself hard to hit. If Wilder takes care of Tyson too, I'd without a doubt feel nobody else can compete with him in the division. Only age.
Pretty damn high.
I was already a Wilder fan before that, but seeing him get tested the way he did and for him to come back from being behind on the cards and getting hurt proved that he doesn't just have power and size, but he has a chin and heart as well.
Damn good win and a very exciting fight.
It's the best win anyone has had at heavyweight since Fury beat Wlad (who I maintain was toast by that point, but Fury dethroned the king).
Ortiz is a rare beast. He's a defensively sound, intelligent southpaw with knockout power. You don't see that at heavyweight. You can count the number of decent, well rounded southpaw heavyweights in my lifetime on one hand, and I'm pushing 30.
That's why nobody wanted to fight him, that's why he gave Wilder so much trouble. Ortiz was consistently able to disrupt Wilder's jab and thus the timing on his best combination, his 1-2 jab-straight right.
Fury may be able to avoid Wilder's punches for a while but Wilder has better cardio than prime Fury, let alone current Fury. And Fury will land on Wilder, but unlike Ortiz he doesn't have the power to hurt Wilder.
If Fury comes into this fight in fantastic shape and sharp skills, he may win 7-10 rounds in a row before he gets knocked out.
If Fury comes into the fight sluggish in any way, Wilder puts him to sleep inside 5.
Either way, Fury is getting knocked out.
Fury has never showed a bad tank and has gone the distance much more than wilder what gives you the impression wilder has better cardio than prime fury? fury has one hell of an engine, he constantly moves, throws light fast punches and upper body and head movement as well that uses a lot of energy

I feel pretty much the same way. I admire his courage, he didn't come out after being rocked all timid - he was like a wounded animal and showed tons of heart.
It was a good win over a top 5 contender but he was damn near knocked out and got some extra recovery time from the referee. Wilder has a beautiful straight right on those rare times when he throws it straight. I think his long fast crushing straight right will knock Fury out. Average punching Cunningham badly hurt Fury and dropped him for a 6 or 7 count. Wilder has a much faster harder right than Cunningham and I think at some point in the fight he lands it flush on Fury and knocks him out. Ortiz hits much harder than Fury and Wilder survived his best attack. I think Wilder can take Fury's power. AJ might be a different story.
