It's got to start with leaving Kevin Barry. He hasn't kicked on since a promising start, his conditioning hasn't improved, and his ability to knock people out has trended backwards. There have been huge rumblings for a while already saying his time with Barry has run it's course - and the complete inability to switch up the gameplan against Whyte should be the final straw.
Odds are, he's going back home to take a few stepping stone fights - think Arreola or worse. Then maybe a rematch with Ruiz or Takam, while trying to springboard back into title contention (probably as a mandatory).
Dig up a few corpses and get a few wins under his belt. He lacks grit though, so I don't see him being much of a title contender now. Heck Big Baby Miller would beat this dude
He definitely needs to change something, he is very young and has plenty of time/ chances to improve and make a good comeback. He still an handful when he wants. He has the speed to dazzle HWs, so back to the drawing board, a few fights at home and then go at it again.
He should go back to New Zealand and take one or two confidence building fights. Right now he just needs a win. Lucas Browne could be a good option. Pretty easy fight for Parker but he should be allowed. He's just come off three tough fights in enemy territory.
One of the reasons I was leaning towarda a Whyte win was because hes had a good run recently and had momentum behind him - that can play a big role mentally - would like to see Parker get some wins and build himselg back up
To me he should take a few lower level fights to get a few wins back under his belt. Jennings, Browne, moline, Martin - a combination of these would be ideal. It certainly pushes him back 12 months for sure
So he loses here, loses against AJ, I thought he lost the Ruiz fight.
I never watched the fury fight, but how close was it? Debatable?
No, not because of anything that Parker did though. Fury disgraced himself with zero offense. It was not close
Simple
Sit down with his camp, assess if he still wants to fight, and build a fiefdom for himself in New Zealand, just as Hearn is trying to do with Joshua in the UK.
He's seen what his level is at, and it's clear that he doesn't Wilder or Joshua with things currently put together.
Pick off Charr, drag that belt to New Zealand, and hope that you get better
The only fighting spirit Parker has shown today was in the 12th. Too little, too late...
That's the problem with him though. He shows promise every fight but just lacks the extra gear. Every fight he leaves too much to desire. Like he was very competitive with Joshua early on, and then was just happy to make it to the final bell. There were three or four rounds in a row today where he showed little urgency and kept getting discouraged in a fight that was up for grabs. I mean last three rounds he won and almost pulled it off, but like you said too little too late. And lets not forget the fights against Hughie Fury or Andy Ruiz.
I would like to see him face someone like Pulev soon to see if he is world class level or just one level below.
