Ever since the IBF was caught up in the bs boxing scandal, they’ve gone to schit! It’s pretty sad. I mean no disrespect, but I don’t even recognize most fighters on their lists. Mostly you can’t find their top 15 on any of the other sanctioning bodies lists either. They bite. Unless you are their Champ
really all the belts are bad. The IBF currently with this ranking bs, Arum owns the WBO, King still has clout in the WBC but Dlh has taken over the payments he used to send to Suliaman before his death, and the WBA is just a complet joke with their regular and super champion bs. In a perfect world, we'd do away with all of these worthless leather and brass straps and the best fight the best
Funny it's that way because they're about the only ones who enforce mandatory fights the way they should be.
But it's a list of guys you've never heard of and when they get their title chance they usually get blown out.
I agree with this. But this is exactly the problem with the IBF. If there's simply no good manadatory for the world champion, other sanctioning bodies have enough sense to simply not strictly enforce a meaningless fight. I mean this is a business after all. You actually need be impressive too to get a shot. Sometimes they'll even wait for an impressive contender so the #1 ranked fighter can prove themselves like with that guy Charlo fought to be GGG's manadatory, I forget his name.
IBF is the only one who will strictly enforce a manadatory against a nobody and completely wastes everyone's time. Ocampo wasn't even number 1 ranked, it's just that no one was rated for higher rankings, similar thing occurred with Doninic Wade since Tureano Johnson was injured.
I mean how the hell do you justify forcing Spence(a top 10 p4p fighter) to fight a guy like that, 22 years old never faced a top 20 fighter, has no impressive amateur record, never fought outside his home country and is not even the number 1 in your rankings. But then threaten to strip the champ if he doesn't fight him, it's just plain stupid. I used to give Mayweather a lot of crap for vacating the IBF belt and not trying to unify titles. Now I know why he didn't. He'd never have made as much money if he had to waste time with these stupid mandatories from the IBF.
Was showing him as #9 on what I looked at. My bad.
Looking forward to Spence vs Lazslo Toth in 2020. What bs ass rankings these mfers got.
They would be awesome rankings if the big promoters would be more willing to let their fighters be bound by the strict and transparent IBF rules.
But for some reason they prefer the "let's make up the rules as we go" of the WBC, WBA, and WBO.
Hilariously Ponomarev is STILL f#cking ranked. People keep telling me the IBF rankings suck cuz the top guys don't want the IBF title so the IBF doesn't rank them. This cake boy has turned down TWO mando title shot situations now and is still ranked. Why is he still ranked if he doesn't want the IBF belt?!?!?!
Ponomarev is no longer in the IBF rankings.

Then shouldn't he have fought someone else to "earn" his shot? I say yea. Usually they play musical rankings find guys to fight for those open 1 & 2 spots. Idk why they wouldn't for something as important as a mando.
That's in their rules already. But they also have a rule where if a mandatory defense becomes due the champion is free to negotiate with the highest ranked contender.
Maybe those situations overlapped here. I don't know. It would be nice if the boxing media did their job and asked the IBF those kinds of questions.
While they're at it they could also have asked Top Rank for an answer about why Ponomarev pulled out of the fight since he wasn't injured.

Musical rankings lol. Or they will have Spence face two mandatories in a row....
It wasn't that long ago when FBI raided their office and IBF suits were charged with taking bribes
Yeah. They seem to have cleaned up their act since then, though.
They are easily the alphabet group with the most transparency at the moment. Boxers know exactly where they stand with them.
Well lets not forget the IBF seemingly didn't follow their own rules for Ocampo to get his spot. He never won a mandatory elimination fight as best as I can tell.
But yea I think the hard part isn't logically dealing with the rankings & belts, but the fact that you can't get rid of all these rankings & belts around today that would allow you to rise up a superior rankings & belt is the bigger problem here than doing common sense sh^t with the group running this sh^t.
The IBF scheduled an eliminator for Ocampo but Ponomarev (a Top Rank fighter) pulled out.
The system doesn't work when certain promoters find it inconvenient to play by the rules.
I don't know. But you would see how good the IBF way of doing things is for the sport if everyone was forced to play by their rules.
I can't say the same for the ways of the WBC, WBA, and WBO.

Any ideas on how to get rid of those other belts in a business as shady as boxing?

Haha, but yea thats boxing for you. The people "doing the right thing" this way are f#cking it up some other way so it crosses itself off to even again any damn way.
Would be cool if the IBF had legit rankings & the other groups enforced mandatories. That would be a good start for these corrupt &/or stupid mfers if they ever wanna go legit.
Let's get rid of all the other alphabet groups and force all fighters/promoters to abide by the IBF rules.
That would make their rankings legit real quick. And you'd actually see the best having no choice but to fight the best.
Do the elite boxers only of after certain belts? It has to be a reason all these c-d fighters keep getting IBF title shots
The IBF sticks to their rulebook and applies it strictly to everyone.
The big promoters don't like that. They want to be able to slip their guys into and out of the rankings at will. That's why they avoid the IBF and prefer a more corruptible outfit like, say, the WBO.
Does anyone know how these fighters get ranked on any of these orgs lists?
Like is it based on a point system or a who you fought system.
Im quite new to boxing and dont have any idea.
Like Techliam said, they have a designated 'championships committee' and there is a role called 'chairman of championship committee' who has the most power in ranking fighters. In theory this person should be seperate and without influence from the president of the org.
(When ibf got done for corruption it was president Bob Lee, along with head of ratings committee Bill Brennan and a few officials who were colluding together accepting payments).
This theoretical seperation of power is set up same way as government where the president/prime minister in should have zero influence over judges/justice system.
For example when NSAC voted on what to do with Saul Alvarez drug issue, the president Bob Bennett did not vote. That is not his role and if he did, it would influence/have conflict of intrest of how he run the NSAC. They have a seperate committee to handle those, who don't have a say in the running of the athletic commisssion.
On footnote IBO are computer generated rankings, but who the f cares about a 5th abc org.
I don't have an issue with sanctioning bodies following their own rules, but when you keep producing poor mandatories that keep getting blown away by the champ, something needs to change.
Check your algorithm or whatever it is that's producing such poor competition for the champ.
