Say what you want about him, but he held firm from all of GBPs threats to cancel the fight and went from 65-35 to at least 57.5-42.5. I say at least because who knows what the "Hail Mary" was.
We proved all of us (including me) wrong for calling him an idiot.
Also, so much for Canelo is the A-Side that can sell against whomever he wants. If that was the case, why surrender the split? Clearly, they know of Golovkin's value and that this fight is massive for both of them.
Golovkin has to be seen as one of the best businessmen in boxing history.
Why didn't this happen the first time?
Being more mad and trying even harder isn't going to change the matchup. Canelo is evasive enough -- and delivers enough punishment of his own -- to get to the cards.
And you know what happens when Canelo gets to the cards.
I think Golovkin was too tentative in the early rounds the first time. The judges and venue were stacked in Canelo's favor for sure. The majority of those watching the fight thought Canelo was gifted a draw to set up the rematch in Vegas. Alot of money at stake. But this time it won't be left to the cards. Golovkin is rightfully pissed over Canelo's behavior and IMO he will methodically deliver a beat down in September.
He's done well. There were people saying he should take a flat fee during the talks for their first fight. This time around it was people laughing at him for losing the fight after he decided he wanted a bigger split. Turns out they knew what they were doing all along.
I like the fact they stood firm and didn't fold to De La Hoya's threats, and that they had BJS ready to go as back up.
GGG felt he deserved more after the failed tests and the fact he would lose the IBF, and he was prepared to stand firm in his demands.
Canelo needed this fight for redemption after the failed test and questionable judging of the first fight. Plus he himself makes by far more money for himself fighting GGG rather than any other MW. He knew that and so did GGG. It was just a case of him standing firm and calling Goldenboys's bluff. Fair play to him for doing so.
Agree. Golovkin is going to punish Canelo for all this drama. The youngster needs a lesson in discipline and Golovkin is going to deliver it. Get ready for the pain. :boxing:

At this point in his career the money is important. If he can get the rematch fight for revenge and an unequaled payday good for him. Just because at the end of his career he is going for a money fight doesn't mean he didn't care about unifying. Look at Mayweather. Berto and then McGregor those fights were a joke. A lot of the guys who defended these are criticizing Golovkin for preferring to fight the second best Middleweight rather than an obscure fighter that brings nothing to his legacy and no money. Beating Canelo is the most meaningful fight he can take in his mind and he's going to get it. I applaude him.
Now who’s looking foolish, LOL... First Mayweather is one of the biggest cherry pickers in the history of the sport, so you won’t hear any argument from me defending his antics. However, no one at the very least I are criticizing GGG for fighting Canelo but for fighting another bum in Vanes instead of his mandatory Deverychenko even though he knew the IBF wouldn’t sanction it. Don’t give him a pass because of his age this is the man that throughout his career claimed all he cared about was the belts and unifying the division but when he had a chance to do so i.e. last yr before the first Canelo fight GGG had a contract in place with Saunders to fight in Kazakhstan but turn it down for the more lucrative Canelo fight. GGG was expose for the fraud he was in these negotiations wether you see it that way or not the prove is in the pudding. He choose to get stripped instead of fighting his mando proving he couldn’t care less about the belts and held out for the most money he could to fight Canelo showing he was always the businessman he claimed to despise so much. Take your rose color glasses and see GGG for the hypocrite he is not the idol you think he is.
Sad how you desperately dismiss facts but unwittingly believe GGG actually came out a winner in these negotiations. Even though GGG was stripped of one belt and showed the only thing that really mattered to him was the money, LOL.

Team GGG bent Oscar over like he was at one of his coke parties.
All the bluster from GBP just revealed that they were really invested in the fight. They used the "this is the last offer!!!" line like 10 times!!
I also have to give props to the editorial staff of the Ring. Stripping Canelo of the (by then laughably illegitimite) Ring title undercut GBP a bit, days before the deal was signed. I can imagine they had to push up against alot of pressure from the business side folks at the RIng.
The only idiots are the anti golovs who cried with everything he did since canelo cancelled the fight, golovkins plan panned out perfectly, actually even better then he planned it i would say, he had his eye on this sept rematch and thats what he got, hes laughing all the way to the bank
Round 1 goes to Golovkin. He gave everyone a lesson in negotiation.
That said, it's all about winning the fight. Can a 36 year old with a punch-eating style defeat a chemically enhanced boxer in his prime with a judge or two on the GoldenBoy payroll? Won't be easy.
Wow it took all that to make yourself look foolish. You should have just said I don't have a clue so we didn't have to wade through a that drivel desperately looking for something plausible.

If anyone got the W in these negotiations is Canelo. For the simple fact that he was able to expose GGG for the hypocrite he truly is. I mean GGG is the same guy that claimed is “all about the belts” or that he’s “no business man”. Yet, let himself get stripped of one of his precious belts by not agreeing to fight his mandatory b/c there wasn’t enough money in it for him. I mean are you all gonna ignore that fact like it isn’t true. Canelo was able to show GGG true colors in these negotiations not only that it was never about unifying the division like the excuse he used for not fighting Ward even though he said anyone from 154-168 but that all he ever cared about was the $$$. Congrats Canelo for exposing GGG as the biggest diva in the boxing game today.

He got the best deal he could have got, he deserves it IMO. He has lost a belt and a payday since this whole fiasco, so anything over the original 35% is a bonus/compensation for him. But this shows me that Canelo really wanted this fight.
I think Canelo's team know he needs this fight to redeem some of his public image. So i don't think Oscar quite held all the cards in this and GGG knew it.
Financially GGG needs it more but if they wish to maintain Canelo's popularity and image, then it's a case of them both needing each other. That's why GGG held out for a good deal in this. It isn't charity. I'm sure they got a good idea in negotiations that Canelo's team feel they need this fight too.
Canelo is kind of the villain in the tale now from the gift draw to the testing dirty. Had they just walked away from the fight, it wouldn't have been a good look, regardless of who's fault it was.
Where are all the Connello groupies now..... Gone silent... Been calling all you out on your bull shyt your fan girl groupie ways and all of you telling me I didn't know what the fuc I was talking about. Now you know whats up and who's a fucin boss. Bytches. Fucin haters. The ass whopping is coming on Sept 15th no peds or fixed judges to save Connello this time.

If it’s something positive GGG related it will either be ignored or spun around. Dude could stop world hunger and all global conflict and he’d probably be hated even more.
That's because lil G can't feed the world and If he did solve world hunger so what Obama was on the way to do it before evil racist Trump got into power and then all the Russian bots started conspiring hence why GGG is a champion right now.
