I took a trip down memory lane recently and watched Hagler vs Hearns. The first round has more action than most 12 round fights. Two legends, perfect contrast in styles, aggression from both fighters, it has the lot.
I felt out of breath just watching it as the bell sounded. You know that you're watching a fight which couldn't possibly go the distance. Sure enough a couple of rounds later it's all over. Is there a better opening round in boxing history?
A video on youtube shows Mancini vs Frias, Benn vs Logan Holt vs Torres 2 Kirkland vs Conyers Gomez vs Hill Moorer vs Cooper called the greatest first round wars
It was the best I can remember but there are so many thousands of first rounds I never saw that might have equaled or topped it. It was a very important fight seen by almost all boxing fans.
manny vs marquez 1
Imagine if they had employed the 3 knockdown rule. Never would have been a rematch and people would have said that Pac simply outclassed JMM.
Hagler-Hearns is the best but also Juan Meza vs. Jaime Garza was one for the ages. A wild first round.
Just watched it, what a left!
Just shows that one round can have it all, go both ways, swing back and forth etc.
Don't know if there was a better round, that's best left to the boxing historians. I saw it live on TV and I was stunned at the level of violence those two guys displayed.
