Canelo vs Spike September 2018?

If Canelo fights Spike, I will laugh, endlessly. It was a bad enough choice as short notice for Golovkin. But, making this a future plan is disgusting when the division is this stacked.

Does anyone actually think canelo will fight triple g in sept... boxers are pansies these days, hes gonna want a tune up for sure after a yr out and spike is the perfect tune up opponent

Why would you hope Canelo doesn't fight GGG? That's the fight most of us want to see in September. I would have like to have seen the fight on may 5... this canelo/ggg saga has dragged too long... gggs career has come to a complete halt... I know ggg won the first fight, so I’d rather see him take on, Saunders around sept, derevyenchenko early next yr, then Charlo and retire... I would also like the see canelo against the same guys

Spike vs Lemieux would be a great fight of two B level fighters The only way Lemieux gets better is if he takes on a big name trainer Someone who will teach him a little defense to go with his power All these fighters from MTL need to get real trainers in order to move forward Just look at Gatti, Stevenson, Pascal The local trainers unfortunately took them as far as they could That’s the downfall with Bute , Diaconu , Lucas and many more

Why not? The bar is too low these days. Let Canelo have two hard tune ups: First Spike, then Wade, if he's available. After that, Saunders, Charlo, etc. War Canelito!:boxing:

Is Spike with GBP now? And yea I suppose I can understand Spike's POV doe. If he thinks he can get 1M for some cashout fight. Or just more than 400k then why take 400k & potentially lose out on the bigger payday later on. I doubt he's guaranteed anything, its always a game of risk/reward in this sport, but logically & more often than not the +EV move could be to wait if something bigger it right around the corner. And don't get it twisted I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with Spike's or anyone elses take so much as I can see that reality in play for Spike & Spike deciding the odds he can get a bigger payday outweigh that this 400k is his "big payday". Yeah, Goldenboy and Spike entered into a 4 fight contract, the May 4 fight being the first of the four fights.

That fight would suck ass if they made that fight. There's plenty of time to get a respectable opponent if not Triple G in September.

After may 4, spike summer fight could also be Gabe Rosado. I remember there were talks of that fight happening last sept. Soft touch then rosado/lemieux on HBO then fights canelo win or lose after his rematch in sept.

More likely they are promised canelo AFTER the sept rematch. I also remember the talks of lemieux vs Spike a couple months ago. I think that's the next fight after may 4 as both have soft touches coming up. Can easily get paid more then the 400K chump change GGG offered for a Lemieux fight. And then face canelo win or lose after sept for 1M+. His manager said he was promised 3 fight deal. The first fight of his new contract takes place next Friday at the StubHub Centre just outside Los Angeles. Another fight would then come in the late Summer or early Autumn before, all going well, a huge fight with Golovkin or Canelo.
