Man I used to love those 24/7’s HBO used to hype big fights.
It made me care more about the fighters hearing their stories and watching them train.
The UFC still does something similar but the boxing ones were more enjoyable to me for some reason.
It was ground breaking at the time and you found out so much info from a fighters training camp. Then fighters started complaining and limiting what they allow HBO can show. Today you won't see marquez drinking urine, Chavez disrespecting his trainer blowing off sessions to lay around the house in a speedo. They don't want to give one side a tactical advantage so you see generic boring bag work and scripted fluff with the family.
they got pretty stale towards the end. pretty cliche. maybe with some bigger personalities it would be better. not just saying it as a brit but i preferred skys version 'behind the ropes' (or something like that), was a bit more gritty and actually preferred it cause it was less produced.
Yeah I also enjoy “behind the ropes”.
Boxers get main stream coverage and much more press in your country.
There are many more productions on the sweet science and it’s practitioners in the U.K.
I liked 24/7 as a concept, but not was burned out by, say, Pac-Margarito on the stories of Pac, Cotto, and Floyd. ****ing despised any 247s that had those guys in 'em.
Ones with other fighters were pretty cool.
Scratch that..... Cotto-Margarito II was excellent.
One problem with HBO is their biggest PPV superstar speaks no English and appears to have no interest in doing so.
Another big problem is that they’re on PPV.
I miss them too. Great watching the build up before fights. Shame what HBO boxing has come to these days.
Showtime is killing them this year but even they aren’t putting out their All Access build up shows. They might release a 7 minute YouTube video but it’s not the same as those half hour shows that aired on tv and we actually waited to come out.
I miss them.
But after watching GGG vs Canelo's 24/7, I realized how boring these guys are compared to fighters from a few years ago.
Makes me miss Pac, Floyd, Cotto, Hatton, etc. Those guys had more personality and better stories to tell, even Cotto was more interesting than Canelo and Golovkin.
Yeah my favorite one was Mayweather vs Hatton.
Man that was a long time ago, I was still a kid.
I miss them.
