Yes, never an impressive title holder, and I don't seeing him beating any of the top 168s at the level he's performing at now.
He has such a high opinion of his own abilities he won't see it this way but his best option (other than retiring as "champ") is see if he can somehow manage to hang onto the title long enough to get a retirement fight against Groves.
Completely agree, ever since he won gold in Beijing 2008 he’s had this delusional, arrogant attitude that he is some superior p4p/elite level fighter when in reality he never was and never will be on that level.
He was never that good to begin with IMO, but he’s certainly in decline, tough fights along with injuries have really taken their toll, he almost looks shot.

Bad knees, bad shoulder.
He did well the other night to put it in the last 2 rounds.
Tbf, I don't begrudge James cashing out vs George.
He's going to suffer a bad loss soon. He has had a tough career and deserves the dough.
I thought he'd lose to Truax
i think that DeGales best days are behind him. He was a very fun and awkward fighter to watch but seems he’s in his twilight, a lot of wars.

Would rather see Benevidez vs Uzcategui in that WBC/IBF unification bout. Benevidez vs DeGales would be a complete WASHING I think Benevidez sends DeGale into retirement after brutalizing him and stopping him that would be ugly
Uzcategui I think beats DeGale as well unfortunately for him so it is Pick Your Poison for him basically
Caleb Plant trying to talk his way into that mix, he should pursue that WBA Strap and try to position himself for the winner of Groves vs Callum Smith WBSS Finals Winner!
DeGale is taking a long break and will do everything to get the WBSS winner to cash out in the UK, maybe he even gets another tune up, doesnt seem like Uzcategui has enough powers behind him.
But i agree if that fight happens Uzcategui beats up DeGale.. DeGale cant hang with the top dogs of the division no more, Ramirez, Benavidez, Uzcategui and even Groves beat him up.
. . . and Degale is very definitely in decline.
I agree with thee 💯 % my friend. He’s had too many wars and not enough rehab time. He needs to limit his upcoming opposition or really take some time off to reassess his situation
Yeah Uz f*cks him up, DeGale is way too easy to hit and that is bad news if you’re in there with Uzcateguii think that DeGales best days are behind him. He was a very fun and awkward fighter to watch but seems he’s in his twilight, a lot of wars.
I'm not watching another DeGale fight unless I can find my headgear. I facepalmed after every accidental headbutt, and I think I have brain damage now.
All of the top guys give him a beating at this point. Uzcategui, Benavidez, Ramirez all murder him. Groves would handle him pretty clearly this time too.
Degale-Eubank would be an interesting fight i suppose
Maybe, but more importantly is the fact that it also seems like it would be a really entertaining fight
You are right, this would be a lovely fight. It would be an entertaining match up.
DeGale doesn’t want or need that work. Hell all of his teeth will go missing. UZ is a damn beast
