In my opinion, there was no way but down for Kovalev. He was completely punched out. Even if Weeks gave Ward penalty, which I actually think should've happened, Kovalev would've been completely done by the 9th and Ward far superior engine would've eventually prevailed.
Your thoughts?
Kov was fading badly and Ward was up this time with like 5 rounds to go. No way it would've been close.
It was already close on the official cards...so like 116-112 for Ward...if that is considered close.
No one knows. Fighters recover. Kovalev has that power, he was gassed and hurt Ward to the body in the final round in the first fight. You just don't know what happens. Plenty of times a fighter has looked gone only to find a second wind and come back.
Ward would have still won their 2nd fight. Kovalev was clearly gassed out and was unable to recover from the fouls. It’s not Ward’s fault that Weeks let him get away with it. I think Ward’s strength is not only his pure boxing skill, it’s his intelligence. Andre is clever and he knows how to win. I also think Kovalev’s demeanor and anger towards Ward hurt him from the start. He’s not as intelligent as Ward and he relied too much on his strength and not his stamina.
Ward would have won a close, but this time deserved, decisionKov was fading badly and Ward was up this time with like 5 rounds to go. No way it would've been close.
How was Kovalev going to recover in 5 minutes when he had been fading since the 3rd round?
How was Ward able to land that lead right hand? Kovalev's fatigue was becoming a defensive liability. He was moving slow and couldn't do any thing to stop Ward's offense at the time of the stoppage. You don't sit on the ropes if you have fresh legs.
Kovalev would've been stopped anyway so Weeks gave his fans something to hold on to for all this time.
Kovalev looked like he was ready to quit & looking for a way out to me. You don't respond how he responded when you are still in the fight. I think Weeks did a disservice to Ward + the fans by just waving it off though, but with how Kovalev was acting its a 50/50 thing & I can't really hate on the decision even though I wish he'd let it go a lil longer.
But if Weeks hadn't called it I think Kovalev gets stopped within a round or two or quits on the stool anyway. I don't think we'd have made it to the final bell.
not sure why he would stay hurt forever from one punch. remember only one legal punch ever hurt him. the others were all low. that was the first time he was ever hurt and he was done? he had already recovered ten fold in just a minute yet he was going to be stopped? against a gassed ward who threw punches for an entire round? not reasonable. ward had his chance to stop him in that minute he was throwing nonstop. he connected with some solid shots but kovalev kept recovering and was on the road to recovery when ward got frustarted and went low over and over.
Idk what would have happened... the real question is how would the fight have played out with a legit and competent referee from the beginning?
thats crazy! everyone knows ward cheats. its his game plan. people say this seriously....ward probably gets dq'd within a couple rounds or quits because hes not allowed to cheat.

oh i forgot ward has infinite energy
My thoughts are nobody knows for sure what would have happened if Weeks had given Kovalev the standard 5 minutes to recover from low blows and warned Ward to keep his punches up as he should have already done. It's easy for Ward fans to say Kovalev was all done and ready to quit and had no chance to win and would soon have been KOed anyway. As a Kovalev fan it's just as easy for me to say that Kovalev could have gone on to win if given a chance to. Nobody knows for sure what would have happened if Weeks had enforced the rules. He robbed Ward of any chance for a clear cut win without controversy and he robbed Kovalev of any chance to win at all.

What should have happened, was Ward should have took a point of Ward, and gave Kovalev up to 5 minutes to recover.
Kovalev was punching himself out chasing the stoppage, but those 5 minutes would have given him a chance to replenish those reserves.
The cards might have been even or Kovalev a round up.
Ward might have took it on points.
Shame Kovalev got robbed in the first bout.

Kovalevs wife would take 37% of his assets and all future earnings, including the 20 mil Roc gave him to let Ward ruin his chances of ever fathering more children
Kovalev would've been stopped in 20 seconds or less
based on what? he had a full minute after kovalev was hurt and kovalev had recovered ten fold in that minute. its not very logical to think ward would have stopped him with clean punches since he had his chance when kovalev was much more hurt and couldnt do it. lets use logic people.
