Dual gold medalist, only 1 loss which was avenged.
Just clowned another dual medalist in their pro fight for bragging rights.
Ridiculous win/loss record.
Any amateur boxers who come close to or even surpass Loma' amateur achievements?
Stanionis looks good to me, he is tough, has a good promoter in Schaefer and imo he can be a contender at least.
Giyasov imo is too raw, athletic, but i have never been impressed by him, although i was never impressed by Gaibnazarov until he turned pro, anyways, Zoirov, Dusmatov and Melekuziev are far better prospects.
Kelly is a little overrated i feel, he acts like the second coming of Roy Jones, but he actually can be quite beatable at the top level, if anything, when he fights people should think at the actual potential of Daniyar who is better than Kelly in every department besides beauty :boxing:
Rabii is my guy, for me he was always the guy that needed to turn pro from welterweight, he picks his punches extremely well, is fast, has good technique and as a pro is scoring one punch ko's, if he is mentally ready, he is a future champion.
I don't rate McCormack high at all.
I think Giyasov could be a good pro. If I'm remembering correctly he out-fought Stanionis and Rabii at the Olympics. He can get a little wild at times, but should make for fun, interesting fights in the future.
Yeah, Kelly is getting a little overrated. Most prospects get overrated though. Ryan Garcia is also getting overrated in my opinion. I also think Yeleussinov is better than Kelly in every department. Daniyar made easy work of Kelly at the Olympics. He even made Kelly look silly at times.
I also like Rabii. Can't wait to see how his career pans out. He seems to have a great pro style, but only time will tell if he is the truth.
I'm the opposite as I rate McCormack very highly. I think he is better than Kelly.
I always thought it was something about being fed, I learnt the quote from Steve Bunce who’s always getting mixed up😂😂😂 so I’m not surprised I was a bit off
Yea I don't think I got #s right but that was quote.
HE said 'whats 5 mil compared to the love of 10 mil Cubans. Not sure I got the numbers right but that was it.

Again, your lying about Robinson. He lost twice under his original name Walker Smith.
The names Jose Ramirez, Oscar Valdez, Felix Verdejo don't ring a bell? They've done alright so far as pro's and then you've got Gold Medal winner Robson Conceicao and top amateurs Yasniel Toledo and Albert Selimov who had credentialed amateur careers.
just to name a few........brewster, tua, briggs. the list is very long with felix. it's not only about a inflated record but the amount of medals & most importantly the quality of fighters you've faced. this is why guys like felix is head and shoulders above loma. don't tell me about a record in which you nore russia can verify.
Jose Ramirez has done nothing & looks nothing special to me. verdejo has done nothing. valdez was getting rocked back and fourth war with servania.
these are not top quality fighters.
An interesting story about Teofilo is he was offered A LOT of money to turn pro and face Muhammad Ali in 1976, a fight he would’ve dominated as Ali was on the slide at that point. Teofilo turned the offer down and remained loyal to Cuba’s communist regime, and went on to live in relative poverty for the rest of his life. He has a famous quote about the offer which I can’t remember off the top of my head but it’s something along the lines of: “why do I need all that money? I can knock on any door in Cuba and they will feed me”.
You definitely need to research him man, he’s a true legend- 3x Olympic golds and also KO’d the eventual 1984 gold medalist Tyrell Biggs.

Laslo Papp,Stevenson, savon all won 3 golds and Savon would have won at least 4 if no boycott.
Teofilo Stevenson actually lived quite well until his death, as much as you can expect in Cuba, he had a house, a car and didn't had to worry a lot about money since he was the man in there, he had drinking problem but in comparisson to Angel Herrera, Candelario Duvergel, Angel Espinosa, Mario Kindelan or any boxer that regretted never turning pro from Cuba, he actually lived well until his death.
That’s what I meant by relative poverty, I meant by MEDC standards not Cuban standards, cause had he chosen to turn pro he could’ve been a VERY rich man

defenition of a man. nothing but true fame.
Appreciate the detailed, informative post. Teofilo I will be researching.

Stevenson, Savon and Papp all have claims to being the greatest amateur ever. 3x gold medals each.
I would personally pick Lomachenko though, the only guy I could maybe put above him is Teofilo
I read an article very early this year he was turning pro. It said he and Ivan Dychko signed to the same company. Dychko has fought 4 times but never heard a thing about Yeleussinov since.
Yeleussinov was able to get away from his contract without any problem, but I have no idea why he decided not to turn over.
He wanted to go back with the Kazakh team, but he has accomplished everything as an amateur, so hopefully he goes professional.
Yeleussinov needs a good team behind him. He is a serious talent.
Rigo is indeed an amazing fighter, but Robeisy has that mean streak, he goes toe a toe in the last round, even if he is winning the fight, he fights on the inside, on the outside, on mid range, he can throw every punch, in Rio and London he fought everyone at their own game yet he won the gold twice at only 22, Rigo and Lara are comformist and i've being saying that for years.
I also forgot Stanionis, who is another good pro in the welterweight division, if you sign Rabii, Giyasov, Stanionis or Gaibnazarov, there's no reason to not sign Daniyar, i mean, even his brother has fought on PBC.
And La Cruz imo depends too much on reflexes and he is getting older, this is his fourth olympic campaign (didn't qualify in 2008), i'm not sold on this Cuban squad besides Andy Cruz.
I would still pick prime Rigo over Robeisy. Robeisy would be a great pro and I think he could become a star if he somehow turned pro. It would be interesting to see what divisions he would compete at.
He would start his career at 122 or 126 I would assume. He would have more upside than Conlan and Stevenson for sure.
I always forget about Stanionis as well. The Welterweight division can be something special in a few years.
Yeleussinov, Giyasov, Rabii, McCormack, Kelly, Stanionis.
They're going to have to prove themselves first obviously.
How would you rate those guys?
I would like to see somebody interview Yeleussinov about his situation. He has nothing left as an amateur.
I don't know what to think about this Cuban team.
I've watching a lot of their younger fighters and they don't look that impressive. Usually Cuba always has strong up and comers, but they've been lacking a little bit in that department for a couple of years.
Still, a lot of their main guys are still young, so they won't have to worry about that for a bit.
Lomachenko does have a really strong case to be the amateur goat, two olympic golds, two amateur world titles and one silver, the val barker trophy for the best boxer at the olympics back in 2008, won his first olympic final by ko in the first round, avenged his only loss twice, beat several olympic champions and was pretty much unstoppable between 2008 and 2012, however i believe that based on accolades, Teofilo Stevenson is the amateur goat, three olympic titles, three world amateur titles, val barker trophy in 1972, knocked out all but two of his opponents in three olympic games, beat several future world champions and olympic champions and h2h, Mario Kindelan is the olympic goat.
Appreciate the detailed, informative post. Teofilo I will be researching.
He's been fighting smaller guys so it's not impressive.
Robinson had way less fights but went 85-0 and beat Willie Pep in the Amateurs. I would say that's more impressive than 300 and change wins against smaller cats in the Eastern Block.
I would like a closer look at his record as well. Not sure I believe all of the Russian fighters with 350+ wins floating around considering how much bullcrap comes out of Russia.
He wasn't undefeated, he was 85-2, lost to Billy Graham and Pasquale Pesce, doesn't come close to what Loma achieved, not even in the same galaxy.
Someone needs to sign Yeleussinov for real. He easily beat Josh Kelly at the Olympics and we all see the amount of hype Kelly is getting.
I read an article very early this year he was turning pro. It said he and Ivan Dychko signed to the same company. Dychko has fought 4 times but never heard a thing about Yeleussinov since.
Tiger Muhammad, the 6'8, 17 year old from South Africa who won 4 Junior Olympic gold medals by the age of 14.
Greatest amateur of all time, soon to be turning pro apparently.
What happened at rio 2016? too young to compete?
IMO Robeisy has something that you need to be a great fighter, and that's being able to beat your opponent at what he does best, he can fight at all the three distances and he is pretty much all rounded, when i see Rigo, Lara and Gamboa, they all go shy when the fight is not going where they want, Robeisy actually fights your fight and beats you there.
Yeleussinov is a top guy, Rabii is looking great as a pro, Kelly is looking great as a pro and Giyasov will probably do well, but somehow he is the one still in the amateurs, he did everything already, he needs to go pro before the olympics, after that i think it will be a little too late.
And La Cruz is probably past his prime already, he is fighting at 91 kg and i don't think he will win the gold in Tokyo unless the category is extremely weak, either 81 or 91.
Robeisy Ramirez is definitely well rounded. It would so much fun watching this guy as a pro. Shame it probably won't happen. I'm personally not very high on Michael Conlan nor Shakur Stevenson. Neither guy seems to have that "It" factor about them.
I don't think Ramirez is as talented as Rigo though. Rigo will be seen as a joke now, but Rigo is the first boxer that truly amazed me when I watched him.
Maybe Yeleussinov just needs the right team to he be interested in going pro.
Egis Klimas should really try to get himself that sort of talent.
Yeleussinov could fight for a title within his first 10 fights; probably 5-8 fights I would say.
He would also fight at Welterweight, very marketable weight class.
You would think people would be racing/fighting to sign this guy up.
And the Welterweight division is looking good for the future with the good amateur boxers that have gone pro:
Rabii, Kelly, now Giyasov. Pat McCormack will probably go pro soon as well.
Just imagine Yeleussinov, Rabii, Kelly, Giyasov, McCormack at Welterweight. That would be insane.
Of course he have to see how they all do in the pros once they step up.
It looks like Cuba is going to test out their new young gun, Osvari Morrel, at 81kg.
It's going to be interesting to see how La Cruz does at 91kg.
