I've always been very intrigued by the "Dream Fights" when you match one Decades top vs Current Top. In this case I'm saying best MW of 80s vs Best of last 5 years Marvelous Marvin Hagler vs GGG.
I would have to go with Hagler only because he has been proven over some of the All time Greats ( I know Duran was a small Mw, Hearns was his first fight at MW I believe but I still think Hagler deserved victory over Sugar Ray L.)
GGG won against Canelo in my opinion by 3 rds. He squeaked out a win vs Jacobs but I def thought was right decision. So imo GGG has riven he the best 160lb alive at moment. Not to mention how he steam rolled vs everyone else he fought till the #2 and # 3 but he still DESERVED the W in both.
So who would you go with?
I have Hagler in tough 12 rd fight via dec.
- -Marv with a 5 yr overlap between his debut and Monzon retirement.
That he was not yet ready to challenge in his 4th and 5th year is perhaps telling he was still a work in progress.
Monzon also took his time in a much rougher climate, but he dominated better opposition as Champ than did Marv, point being Monzon as close to invincible as possible in those years. I doubt Duran or Leonard would bother him in the least.
GGG and Monzon both with size advantage, equally relentless and solid fundamentals would have the advantage over Marv.
However, U Pantywaists gonna have to learn some manners and boxing nuance if U want to see those fights in Valhalla.
Hagler beat the prime and punch resistance out of Mugabi
that fight made him chinny AF, most of his losses after are all savage ko losses
1) I don't think GGG would have fought Hagler the same way Mugabi did...GGG likely would box behind the jab as he always has any time he respects his opponent's power...I think he would find success with the jab against Hagler but maybe some disagree.
2) Hagler surely did take something out of Mugabi that night...similar in a way to what GGG did to Brook in their fight...Mugabi iirc lost his next fight by KO due to a broken eye socket, just as Brook lost his in similar fashion.
But then Mugabi won 11 straight by KO, over the same type of competition as he was facing before Hagler - all by early KO against OK fighters at 154...not against an ATG at 160.
One could make a good argument that Mugabi just wasn't quite a top level fighter and that showed greatly in his big fights with McClellan Norris and Hagler...but he was a 'beast' vs other good fighters.
I agree though that Hagler took something out of him that night...but when you go 11-1 in your next 12, with 11 KOs and winning back the WBC at 154...I mean hard to say you were completely done at that point and that you had 'your prime and punch resistance beaten out of you'
how did you score it round for round??? A power punch that lands clean is more important than a simple jab
Depends on the effect of the punch. A power punch is any punch that isn't a jab. I think Compubox started using that misleading term for stats. Canelo landed quite a few of them and Golovkin barely blinked. Canelo when he got tired was basically throwing arm punches.
that was an old haggler that fought mugabi I don't think it would be that close plus watch that fight mugabi fought fight of his life that night was never same.went from 28-28ko to being knockedout that and the beating finised him

Hagler wins clear decision or by late stoppage, in his prime Hagler was an absolute beast and if you can take clean shots on the chin from Tommy Hearns and John Mugabi then GGGs best shots are not going to trouble you unduly. On the inside Hagler would bust him up with his relentless accuracy and workrate and on the outside Hagler would dominate using his long reach. When Hagler was at his peak he was nearly unbeatable for a few years and Leonard openly admits he wanted no part of Hagler until he could see signs of him fading even when they did fight that decision could easily have been scored for Hagler.
People say hagler is greatercas he has better resume. So I will say GGG beats hagler.
The fact GGG beats haglker don't mean GGG is greater.
So by end of gggs career he maybe considered greater
So you think GGG beats Hagler but it doesn't make him greater than Hagler?
That WW he dragged up would wipe his ass with Canelito AND Golovkin.
Slow ass Dominic Wade landed a 4 punch combo on GGG.
That trash couldn't land a 4 punch combo on Hagler's spit bucket.:lol1::lol1:
Americans like you are some sad people.
You'd rather drag-down an American ATG....just to uplift a lousy foreigner that hasn't done jack-sh*t.
Pitiful
What the fuçk are you talking about? I'm "dragging down an american" by saying I think it would be a good fight? I haven't even said GGG would win. For once, be an objective observer rather than just a pro black piece of sh it. I used to like you, and joking with you. My opinion is starting to change
when a ? like this is posted everone goes toooo far one way or other. both can be very good fighters with just one better.in this case its haggler in my not so humble op
I think we've learned enough about Treeeple Gee to know he doesn't like it rough. I don't think he could withstand the dogged determination of someone like Hagler. Golovkin wants you to feel his power and start looking for a way out. That's not Hagler.
best line so far
haggler lost to one guy in prime and that was Monroe 1st fight but knocked him out twice within year and half.and fight was close and haggler was sup sick he cleaned out all those philly 160 pounders who could fight like hell.monroe, watts, hart and of coure the best of lot Briscoe
