Even if it's true you make it sound like Golovkin won't also get an extra 5 hours, just because he's not a huge middleweight don't mean he won't benefit too.

Rumor has it that the Nevada State Athletic Commission will move friday's weigh-in to 10AM, 5 hours earlier than normal. Speculation is they saw how effective this was for Daniel Jacobs vs GGG, so they are repeating what worked. Also, the IBF second day weigh-in issue was supposedly ironed out, with them eliminating the second day weigh-in altogether for unification bouts. However, now rumor has it the Ring Magazine belt won't be counted, and so since Canelo has no other belts, this fight won't be a unification. Meaning, the IBF second day weigh-in is back on. GGG will have to abide by it if he wants to keep the IBF belt and unify the division, but there is nothing stopping Canelo from saying he'll do it, then using the extra time after the official weigh-in on friday to rehydrate twice as much as GGG, and skipping the IBF second-day weigh-in. In other words, this is all being set up to screw GGG the exact same way as the Jacobs fight. I hope all real boxing fans, who just want to see a fair fight on an even playing field, join me in contacting the NSAC, as well as Tom Loeffler (@TomLoeffler1 on twitter) and Golden Boy Promotions, demanding a fair playing field. Weigh-ins in Nevada are supposed to take place at 3PM local time the day before the fight, as just demonstrated by Mayweather-Mcgregor. A 10AM weigh-in would give Canelo 5 extra hours to rehydrate overall, and much more crucially, almost twice the amount of waking hours to rehydrate before fight day. In other words, stuffing yourself with pizza the day of a sporting event will likely just weigh you down. It's fueling up the day before, and then letting your body sleep with that extra fuel and distribute it throughout the body, that really makes the difference, and this would give Canelo 12 hours from weigh-in time to sleep time at 10PM, instead of six hours, to rehydrate before sleeping, almost twice as much time. JOIN ME IN DEMANDING THE RULES ARE FOLLOWED AND THE WEIGH-IN TAKE PLACE AT THE NORMAL 3PM TIME. JOIN ME IN DEMANDING THE BIGGEST FIGHT OF THE YEAR IS NOT IMPACTED BY CORRUPTION AGAIN IN VEGAS. Fans should not have to wait years for a fight only for it to be impacted by corruption when it finally does happen. That is like kicking someone when they are already down. Lastly, either both fighters should have to weigh-in a second time, the morning of the fight, or neither, and both must be made aware of which it will be by the time friday's weigh-in is over, so they can both immediately tailor their rehydration plans accordingly. Since monetarily, this fight is too big to cancel, and therefore there is no way to guarantee Canelo abides by the second day weigh-in, please JOIN ME IN DEMANDING THE IBF CANCEL ITS SECOND DAY WEIGH-IN FOR THIS FIGHT, AS THE PROMOTERS OF CANELO-GGG HAD PROMISED FOR ALMOST THE ENTIRETY OF THIS PROMOTION. Boxing fans are sick of corruption and unlevel playing fields in boxing. It's not enough that Canelo's Team waited until GGG got old and his knockout streak ended before making the fight? Waiting until he was 35 even though all studies show that athletes peak in their mid to late twenties, and absolutely fall off a cliff after 33? Now they want to change the weigh-in time and make GGG weigh in on fight day as well too, while Canelo can plan to skip the entire time? If both these issues are not resolved by the time of friday's weigh-in, I suggest boxing fans tell all their casual fan friends that this is another corrupt fight, and not worth their time. If boxing is going to continue to ruin the biggest matchups in the sport with corruption every single time, then it is no longer a sport worthy of being shared with friends, or promoted in any way. If this is true it will explain something which has been baffling a lot of people, including me ... why is Canelo walking around looking like a Mister Universe entrant just a week before a 160lb title fight? After what I saw in the Kovalev/Ward fights, I wouldn't put anything past those corrupt NSAC bastards.

The real reason the IBF changed this rule - they want to prevent more Champions/Contenders dropping the title because of stricter policies (and logically, prevent more higher echelon champions, who usually are unified or eventually will, dropping the IBF title). In a way, its a bigger incentive to unify as an IBF champion, which means the IBF belt could be in the hands of better fighters. They've finally realised, after many years of member suggestions, that they'd make more internally by making the belt more attractive to better fighters (usually earn higher) even if it is part of a split sanction fee, rather than the restrictive system they have now. GGG had to weigh in twice and defend his IBF title against Jacobs - even though Jacobs couldn't win it - because the IBF don't permit non-title fights in a champions own division. I guess they could have just dropped that rule, except they would miss out on their sanctioning fees if they did that.

Mmm .. I would have gone with techliam's first definition of a "unification fight" because that's what I always thought unifying titles meant. But his second definition, and the one being used by WBC WBA IBF, is a better fit with the reason given by the IBF for changing their rule. Someone needs to close this thread. It's full of false information. There is no second day IBF weigh-in if a WBC, WBA or WBO world championship is also at stake. GGG doesn't have to worry about the second day weigh-ins anymore. You've confused the definition of a 'unification fight' in the eyes of a sanctioning body A 'unification fight' is one where it is sanctioned by more than 1 sanctioning body as a world title contest. This is different to the viewer/fan perspective of a fighter 'unifying' titles by adding more to his own. Mmm .. You want to know how to stop the corruption? Stop spending money on this sport and watch it for free online. Send them a message. And tell (whoever it is that we should tell) on social media, through the mail (call your congressman, like Teddy Atlas suggested) and tell them we won't support this sport if the corruption continues.

Golovkin and Canelo don't have to weigh in the day of. If they want the IBF title they do. It's their choice. Exactly. Same case in the Golovkin-Jacobs fight. Jacobs didn't want the IBF title so he didn't have to do the weigh-in the day of. Yet so many people complained about him doing it

Okay, we need to get the understanding of the changing of the IBF's rule for second day weigh-ins understood. I know what it says in their rules. But we need to find out how a Unified champion who has the belts figures into this equation and if that also qualifies in unification. If a WBA, WBC or WBO championship is also at stake with the IBF does that also nullify second day weigh in. Does a unified champion also count for unification. This is what we need to find out. The WBA title is also at stake... so no.
