He's never had a pro or amateur fight, looks horrid in some training clips. He's a cracking MMA fighter but boxing is a different ball game, Floyd would get smashed in MMA and vice versa.
I'm worried about Floyd potentially landing at will, although I think Floyd will be super cautious in the first 2 rounds.
At least Conor is getting 8 or 9 figures, most wouldn't mind being ko'd for that :bling:
Not hard to figure.
He can't just dive in there and do a Maidana.
He;s got zero record in boxing and will be picked apart by a pro.
It could turned ugly for him as soon as he gets caught by
unseen punches.
Lol @ looking horrid comments. He would beat a normal persons a55 bad, even in boxing. He may not compare to guys like Manny, Cotto or Floyd on the bag but he can still throw hands exceptionally well.
On topic, I'm not worried for Connor because if you offered me a lot less I would get in there and swing and miss Floyd until I gassed and he knocks me out too. I know what I'm getting into and so does Connor. I just hope too many people are fooled into thinking this could actually be competitive.
I think safety wise the fact this is taking place at 154lbs is huge plus for McGregor. I'd be worried if Floyd made him come in at 147lbs because McGregor is a big guy and it's really dangerous cutting a lot of weight and taking shots to the head.
I still think it's crazy to even sanction a fight like this without some kind of modification of the rules to even things up a bit.
I'd have the fight with 8oz gloves and 7 rounds just to even up the fact you have a guy with no experience who is used to fighting with 4oz gloves fighting the greatest of all time. The rules are silly as it is. If Floyd can't stop a complete novice with strict boxing rules in 6 rounds hes a chump.
If Conor is smart, he will fight southpaw and try to do what Judah did to Floyd in the first couple rounds of that fight. Doubt he has the skill though
Or the hand speed.
It's going to take a combination of Floyd pretty much completely deteriorating, and going full on Ricardo Mayorga for McGregor to pull this off.
Actually yes. Definitely worried. McGregor should not have been issued a license.
And now Floyd probably really does despise him. S
Should be pretty brutal actually.
Yea if this is some sort of scary L or just embarrassing L for Conor then that could impact things for sure, but I'm kinda thinking the cat might be out of the bag regardless. Interesting times.
Meh I liken this to Holmes/Cooney, a massive hypecircus where a big punching Irishman was going to take out the black champ no one liked. Everyone tunes in, the President calls one fighter, the white dude gets outclassed in every possible way. Everyone retreats to the bushes claiming they knew the black dude was just too good lol..
Floyd is a great body puncher.
Connors size youth and strength will take some chopping down, as soon as Connors bum rushers are over with and the fight starts to settle that little bit, then Floyd will take him apart.
Probably look scrappy and messy at the start and Connor will try some of his insect tantra from a mile away to the roar of the crowd, Connors only chance is to get in real close grapple with Floyd and punch, use his only assets and hope a big shot or two gets in, once it settles Connor is chopped liver.
This is exactly how I see it too. It's going to be messy for a round or two then when it settles in Mayweather will pick him apart at will. Floyd will score a lot of sneaky body shots early.

Did you just say Conor could try and do what Judah did to Mayweather?
Judah had the fastest hands in the game for a spell and dropped Mayweather as a result. Light years apart!
I do think he might be in store for a hellacious beating, but i'm not worried or won't feel sorry for him. He knows what he's getting into and will be getting paid an absolute fortune for it. Let's say he gets destroyed and never fights again, he's set for life after this. I just read that he's got his own movie in the works too? Plus of course he could do other things after fighting to make money, so no reason to feel sorry for him. He's got the fight everyone wants and he's gonna be the richest MMA fighter ever, so whatever happens he's a winner one way or another.
Floyd just has too much skill for Conor to have a shot. Sure in a cage Conor would give Floyd the bums rush and pound him. But in a boxing ring Conor comes in at Floyd and Floyd delivers a check hook (ala Ricky Hatton) and the fights over.
That's what I'm hoping for.
Check hook and Conor goes flying head first into the corner lights out. :boxing:

Yeah for sure. People have short memories and are probably gullible enough to buy something similar if they get the right two guys involved.
Conor is just too big to get stopped by an old man.

he wasnt just some regular college wrestler. and like i said, his size is what won him those fights. he was 3x the size of those hw guys. its different in boxing, because you cant just grab your opponent and take them down and pound them. thats what brock did. he had a major size advantage. if ufc was strictly stand up then brock would have no success at all.
I understand what you're saying, but even for that to happen it still shows a lack of depth in talent to me.
Yea thats definitely crazy when you really think about it.
With the money Conor's earning in boxing unless he just gets completely owned & embarrassed or says screw fighting entirely I'm gonna start selling f#ck you stripped suits, I think we see him again in the ring.
I believe he said he'll quadruple his net worth with this fight, which if we go by that potential $100M number you just brought up means he's likely earned $25M+, after taxes, in his years in the UFC. If he can parlay another big $50M, $100M payday or bigger rematch w/Floyd, if its somehow warranted, or a fight with Canelo or something how could you not take advantage of that? Or the UFC is gonna have to start paying him a whole lot more then the $10M+ he's been getting for his last few PPV's. Something is changing with this fight thats all I'm sure of it just matters what actually goes down in the ring.
And this won't be the last crossover fight either with all this money involved. If Joshua keeps getting popular & the UFC can promote Francis Ngannou into a more mainstream popular guy Joshua vs Ngannou could be a huge fight between a UFC guy & boxer in 2yrs or so.
I think this is the last big crossover fight of any relevance. Floyd can take this fight because he will almost certainly win, he and Conor are both big enough personalities they can make this kind of $, and he's retired, so there's no belts at stake or anything. This is his last time out, so he doesn't give an ish.
AJ would never fight someone like Ngannou. He can make a lot more staying in boxing and no sanctioning body is going to allow him to take a voluntary defense against a novice lol. Plus he's taking a risk of the predator landing a huge shot and AJ loses hundreds of millions. That won't stop the UFC from trying as Stipe tried calling out AJ on twitter only to get laughed at to his face.
