SUCH IS LIFE!!
This is not just boxing thing.
The whole f*ckin world is sugar coated.
That is why u see someone lost their dog and found it again after 2 years on the news instead of actual news.
Genocide against indigenous and/or ethnic minorities is happening daily, yet we hear nothing or have become desensitized.
Indigenous West Pupuan by Indonesian Government or Rohingya Muslims by Burmese Government are just two examples that continue to this day unnoticed by the masses.
We care about cruelty against animals, yet ignore humans being slaughtered and misplaced.
This is the way of the world my brothers and sisters.
It's fine the fight is not for over 2 months. We just saw how much hype and buzz Top Rank was able to create after announcing Pacquaio TV deal with only a week and half before his fight. And that fight did great ratings because the final weeks is the most important. Canelo/GGG will have double that time 3 full weeks and Sept all to themselves and is still on a Mexican holiday. Plenty of people know about the fight and you won't be able to not hear about it the weeks leading up.
I like how gbp has Canelo on commercials. I think that helps a bit. Guest appearances on TV will help too building this fight.

Yes, Canelo-GGG is an afterthought for the casuals at the moment, but people still know about it. When someone brings up May-McG, I immediately ask them about Canelo-GGG, and they know about the fight and show interest in watching it.
Wait until May-McG is over, it will be 1 - 1.5 week of sh*tting on the fight, and then everyone's attention will turn to Canelo-GGG for the following 2.5 - 3 weeks, with the hype increasing every week. GBP will use the potential Floyd-McGregor borefest to hype up the "real fight" Canelo-GGG, which will be "action-packed" and it's what "real boxing fans" want to see.
Put it like this: Whoever is going to buy Canelo-GGG, is still going to buy Canelo-GGG. Mexican fans, and other Americans and Latinos.
May/Mac was always going to be hyped because it's a freakshow. After it's over, Canelo vs GGG has 3 weeks to build, which is really the most critical time to build a fight, in the last 3 weeks. I think the sentiment that May/Mac is going to somehow kill it is misconceived. It's like saying a steakhouse will go out of business because an ice cream shop just opened up next door.
i was playing videogames with some dudes yesterday who were like "i want to see those two guys fight" they didn't even know their names, but they were interested in the fight. "i hope he gets knocked out with one punch."
so there's your answer. it's not a surprise at all that this side show is going to sell. mayweather - pacquiao was a side show by the time it took place, and it completely destroyed the pay per view buy and revvie records. casuals are the people who drive ppv sales into the millions, not hardcore boxing fans. ****, how much you want to bet that half of the guys on this forum don't even buy ppvs or hbo and showtime subs? and how many people even use boxingscene regularly? 25,000? 50,000? 10,000? i mean ****, there are only 200k people registered.
casuals drive ppv sales. why was chavez / canelo a big fight? becuase somebody marketed chavez, a quitter and a momma's boy, as the "more mexican" of the two a rivalry caught on with mexican casuals. anybody who has actually watched boxing in the last five years could tell you that chavez would be a walking corpse at 165 lbs, and that he was a chump to begin with.
canelo - golovkin is not only a matchup between marquee guys, it's a really exciting fight on paper. canelo is going to do a hell of a lot better than most people are anticipating. that kid can fight. he's not going to go quietly into the night even in the event that he is outgunned. if boxing existed in a perfect world it would smash mayweather - mcgregor in ppv buys and in hype. but we live in a world that let manny and floyd push off their fight for 5-7 years until both had wasted their primes getting inflated purses against nobodies and washed up fighters. 90% of the people who bought that fight didn't even understand that they'd been duped, they just thought boxing sucks without understanding that the fight didn't deliver because it was 5-7 years too late.
