I think he should hang em up. Back to back KO losses. Both in early rounds no less. The guy can't even get a few solid rounds of work in.
Absolutely no defense at all. No head movement. Stands right in front of you straight up and down. Can't take a punch. I really can't see him doing anything significant anymore.
He's done.
I was supposed to go to that one to but I missed it for reasons I can't even remember. But I did make it up there for 2 of his fights, one at UIC and one at Comiskey Park or whatever they call it now. Those Polish fans are nuts. Best atmosphere I have ever seen for sports or anything really.
Yeah I saw him fight Glen Johnson. That one was fun. The one at the ballpark must have been cool.
More fights need to be held in stadiums like that.
I was one of the ones who really wanted Canelo - GGG to be held at Dodgers Stadium.
I was glad I went with my one friend who's not really a boxing fan, but he's shown interest in boxing in the past, so I told him let's go to the UIC, $50 after taxes and fees. He had so much fun and said he wanted to go again. He never saw boxing live.

Yeah, I went to that fight with my brother. Talk about a crowd getting silenced in a hurry. Crazy.
Lol, on the blue line we got off to transfer to red, I saw a couple of Polish people sitting on the train. They were wearing Fonfara tee shirts. Before we left I told them, "Sorry for your loss."
It was funny.
why does every fighter have to retire when they lose? he can make lots of money as a fringe world level fighter and can be involved in fun fights.
In most cases you would be right, but Stevenson is no speedster and Fanfara just couldn't get out of the way of Stevensons left. It seems as if those reflexes are shot and making lots of money depends on how you define lots of money.
Probably trying to make a case that it's still the 1st round, but Fonfara was really hurt. He got up way too quick from the knockdown. I knew he was done when I saw his legs weren't there.
I couldn't believe it myself cuz Fonfara just landed a good punch and had Smith going backwards a bit, but Fonfara had his hands low, squared up, and fell inside and all Smith needed was one clean punch.

Polish are crazy fans so I am sure that made the atmosphere more lively. Who wouldve ever thought Joe Smith was going to win like that or even win at all. I almost didnt even watch it thinking Smith would get steam rolled. And good on you adding another fan to the sport :boxing:
dang, wtf was Fonfara trying to explain to the ref when he was on his ass. I dont think he even realized he was down lol

Fonfara has the heart but not enough of the fundamentals. He needs a new trainer and start from scratch. Work on his defense. He's a punching bag as it is now.
Idk if that's possible though. That's the kind of stuff that should've been corrected a long time ago. It starts when you're young. He's been professional for years. We're talking about completely changing the way he's been fighting for years, and a way that brought him success when facing subpar competition. He thought that style worked, but now against top competition, well, we know what happens.

Well, that's going to happen when you have a terrible defense and you face monstrous punchers. His chin has never been great. But his fighting style definitely doesn't help him either.
I think they should be careful with who they match him with in his next few fights.
Smith hurt him, Stevenson hurt him..and if Cleverly carried power, he would of hurt him too.
I saw it live at the UIC. Everyone, including me, was shocked. Never seen so many sad poles in one place in my life.
It's gotta be damaging psychologically. Knowing you got KTFO by an unknown.
I'm sure he was having flashbacks of Joe Smith last night when Stevenson started landing on him.

Actually, he finished Dawson in his previous fight so it's not back-to-back. But, I get what you're saying. (edit; I see you caught it)
I normally wouldn't say a guy should retire just because of a couple losses but the WAY he lost last night is very concerning. He simply could not get out of the way of that straight left. When you know a punch is coming, and it's almost the only punch the guy is using, and you still can't do anything about it, you're done.
Fonfara seems like a super-nice guy and I've rooted for him for a while now but, to me, it was obvious why Virgil stopped it. It's not about the damage he took, it was the damage he was about to take because the guy simply had no answers to Stevenson's basic punches. :(
That was downright ridiculous. There was a point where he literally tried the same thing 3 times in a row, and got countered with the same exact punch 3 times in a row.
I don't know if he was trying to think too much or what, but his performance was downright atrocious. Completely unprepared and didn't have his head in the game.
Very brutal. He took his soul in one single round. Smith's power is legit.

Joe Smith ruined him, that KO was extremely brutal
Fonfara's W over Dawson was deceptive, Dawson has been shot for years, his decline started when CoWard forced him to fight as a weight drained zombie.
Stevenson deserves little credit, he just beat the shadow of a broken man in Fonfara
He's still a younger guy (29 iirc) & was anyone really thinking he had much of a chance here? This was a KO waiting to happen with a small chance of Fonfara upsetting Adonis at best.
And what job skills does he has exactly beyond boxing? Anyone know that?
I think there is easily another 1M in purses in his future vs all these up & coming 175lbers who want a sexy name on their resume & he could even surprise some of the pretenders among those cats to who knows. So it'd be kinda silly to give up another 1M+ to set yourself up for post-boxing vs try to get into used car salesmanship or whatever he's capable of doing outside of boxing.
Hell he could even try MMA cuz there is a big Polish MMA league that's getting on the map lately that likes freak shows & would probably love a boxer turned MMA guy to promote for nice paydays for him.
I think he's a personal trainer at a gym somewhere in Chicago. Hyper fight club I think is the name of it.
He can make a living doing that I guess.
