What a spectacle. What a treat. The kind of fight that reminds you why you love the sport. Two skilled warriors going toe to toe, leaving it all in the ring, what a show. Pure drama. sledgehammer shots, granite chins, hearts of lions.
It broke my heart a little and at the same time I was very happy for Rungvisai. Really, really bittersweet.
I went into the first fight a Roman fan, not knowing much about Ringvisai other than he was a dangerous underrated opponent, but through the course of that fight Rungvisai won me over, and I found myself cheering for the crazy underdog story. I never really felt bad for Roman because, well, he's had so much success, and a loss doesn't define a fighter, so I felt he could "afford" it, if that makes sense, whereas this might have been the only shot a guy like Rungvisai ever has at this level.
It's similar to my sentiments going into Maidana/Mayweather I. I was a huge fan of Floyd but also a Maidana fan, but felt that of all possible outcomes, the best (for my as a fan and for the fighters as well) outcome would be Maidana winning, because it would be a fantastic victory from his side of things, but also because I felt Floyd could "afford" the loss.
When it comes to a fight where I like both fighters more or less equally, I look at it like this: who needs the win more? Who gets set back more? I look for the situation in which the least damage happens all around, and root for that outcome.
Another time this came into effect was JMM/Bradley. I loved both fighters, but felt Bradley needed the win more at the time, I felt JMM had enough glory and legacy to where he can eat that loss.
He wasnt robbed, you're just biased. It was a really close fight
Well said.
Robberies are no-**** results that go the other way. If it's a close / controversial call, then robbery discussions can commence. Otherwise, we are just talking about sore losers.
having a good chin does to equate to winning a fight.
neither does plodding forward, grunting while throwing single shot's....when you are countered by 6 or 7 in reply.
The judges / people were clearly swayed by the KD and the blood.
I just feel bad for gonzalez tbh. if he knew he would be jobbed on the card's, he didnt need to look to the heavens every time he got of his stool to summon the strength from god.. and just quit on his stool.

fair and square? you must be blind because you missed all those headbutts from dungvisai. he won't be holding onto that belt for too long. gonzalez had the thai running for his life he got bullied lol

Roman got screwed. That fight was a draw at best.
I scored it 114-112 for Chocolatito I would have also been cool with a draw.... hard way to suffer a 1st lost... FOTY candidate for sure for sure!!!
:haha:
None of those headbutts were intentional, if anything they are on Roman for coming in when Rungvisai has his head low. And damage afterwards? That's free game, just because a cut may be caused by a headbutt doesn't mean the opponent isn't going to target the wound. LMAO. It's a FIGHT!!
They were intentional, otherwise he wouldn't have been deducted! And the way he shoots his head in, how could you say they weren't intentional? Clearly there were other factors affecting the way this fight played out, as marcianos record was surely going to be beaten. And certain people didn't want that happening
Rungvisa should have been disqualified after 3 headbutts, or at least had a point deduction for every round roman was bleeding and off his game distracted . Was the worst decision iv'e ever seen! .

It was FOTY for me regardless of the decision. I both agree with the decision and am happy for Rungvisai but had Roman won I would feel the same way about the fight.
I wanted Berto to win and scored it for him in the Ortiz/Berto I fight but that didn't make the fight any less meaningful and special to me, sometimes you need to just separate the whole "who won" crap and just appreciate the actual combat in the ring, nevermind the results. Fans who can't do that imo have a harder time actually enjoying fights and I think that's kinda sad.
you scored ortiz-berto for berto? is that even possible. he was completely dominated aside from the 2 knockdowns he scored while getting kd'd twice himself
It's not as simple as "who landed more punches". Just lol if that's your only scoring criteria.
Never claimed it to be, just a ridiculous stat for a 12 round fight..
I thought Roman did the more effective work and won by a couple of rounds. It was close but a definite win for Gonzalez in my eyes
I like the way everyone conviently leaves out the fact it was southpaw vs orthodox?. It's a indisputable fact & history has shown countless times, that those two styles can lead to a clash of heads.
Remember Roman touched the canvas from a legitimate punch. Bullied!.
:lol1: A legitimate headbutt. He was off balanced got scraped but a punch and hit with a headbutt. He was not even remotely hurt.
