Let's say you have a similarly popular event, relatively speaking.
For example khan-Brook, wlad-Aj. or AJ-Fury compared to wilder-jennings, or thurman garcia. It seems objectively, the UK market big fights are going to do much better than American big fights?
Does hearn have the edge due to loyal brit fans?
Newcastle are garbage, you poor soul.
Yeh we've been ****e for a while, still fill a 52k stadium each week..
If the north east had a toptier boxer he'd be prob the best supported outside of aj
Absolutely.
Fighters are always supported, whether they have no losses or 5 losses.
Domestic level fights sell out arenas, big fights can sell out stadiums, the pricing is better, the atmosphere is better, it's a thriving sport.
Boxing seems to be on the up in England at the moment. We've had decent amateur success in the last few years culminating in 2 decent Olympics. You also can't underestimate the effect AJ has had on the sport here. He travelled all over the country for his early fights and gained massive amounts of support.
I also think Tyson fury has helped too. He's made more front page headlines recently but that helps also.
Agreed, it is for our fighters. Lee Selby absolutely horlicksed his career going with Haymon.
The next stage for us would be for foreign fighters to headline events here. Seems a bit of a reach but Hearn might as well have a go, imo.
The problem with sport over here is that we are used to competing internationally in team sports and have been for over a century now. Sport is entrenched in nationalism. War minus the shooting. It is hard to change that kind of mind-set. Boxing shouldn't really be an us and them sport. It's a purely individual sport.
For heavyweights, without a odubt and has been tha tway for a long while now. The whole of Europe has in fact. Outside of that, I don't think so but the US is being usurped and in a few years time, Europe will probably be dominant across all divisions.
I don't know if its more profitable but I will say as a yank I always enjoy watching UK cards. The atmosphere seems pretty electric and adds to the fights. Brits seem to be great fans.
Cheaper alcohol + Sweet Caroline - the matchroom special
UK boxers are quick to align themselves with a soccer club, well the intelligent ones. I expect they're advised early on, pick a club preferably one with history and a solid support. I'd have a Manchester United badge on my shorts, just as many would pay to see you lose than win, it's a no lose situation, watch plenty of Liam Gallagher videos before I'd do an interview and say 'out kid' as many times as I possibly could every sentence, and when the interviewer asks me how I'm feeling the best reply you've ever heard in your life time 'god like'
Interesting. I disagree though that this is the reason any boxing event does well with attendance and viewership- I do think it is a factor in England, especially based on the fact sccer fans are FIERCE supporters. We see boxers align themselves with professional athletes in the U.S. and it seems to help a little, but if you're not a huge name in the U.S. you have a low probability of getting any attention is low. Brits will put 30k in a stadium for club fighters..it's awesome

It shows how little you know, you grow up supporting your local team, you get no love being a glory hunter

"As a yank"
Yeah you're not fooling anyone..
Lets face it....the brits love the fights...the americans love the science. Some local area fights in the uk can draw just as many people as low key title fights in the u.s....its simply because the local area boys are always about the grudge...they know their level and will blood and guts it out simply for town pride. A lot of u.s. fighters wont even build up a sweat unless its 5 figures or more and a promise of one day seeing the millions.
