Out of all the current fighters, across all weight classes, who will be the biggest name in the sport in 2 years time (and what sort of PPV numbers do you think they'll be achieving).
We need a heavyweight. Maybe Fury was going to be that guy. But he sure isn't. Maybe Joshua or somebody.
The problem with boxing is that the best guys are all in the lighter divisions. We need an exciting, talented, compelling big guy or two.
Here is the rule, no matter what era you're in: As the heavyweight division goes, so goes boxing.
Talent wise? Thurman, Brook, Lomachenko, Crawford. Golovkin maybe.
Stupid mexicans fans wise? Canelo... unfortunately.
now say it without crying... :bottle::bottle::bottle:
In two years? Probably still Canelo, which sums up the current sad state of boxing.
I haven't picked Joshua or Wilder because I don't believe either of them will unify - and without that, they are severely limited by being just another piece of the puzzle.
Michael Conlan if he can actually fight at the pro level has by far the biggest shot to be the face of boxing.
Joshua will be the face of England, for as long his highly roided up body holds up, I question how long his ligaments will last though.
Spence has a chance, but I'm not as sold on him as many people are, and I've yet to see any promoters build a black American fighter up in a long time. Crawford is probably the only one in awhile.
While Canelo is the biggest star in boxing currently.. He can never be the face of boxing. The face of boxing is someone people can relate to.. Canelo doesn’t speak English so his character will isn’t going to be relatable to the majority of the boxing world, just Mexicans. Even GGG has a bigger chance than Canelo to be the face of boxing as he can at least speak English. Canelo has the looks and skills but it doesn’t seem like he’s even taking English lessons.. It’s a shame really, if he spoke English he’d be the face of boxing no doubt. But then again he has GGG problems.
Spence has the talent but not the character. Thurman is an excellent speaker and his talent is up there but I see him losing to both Brook and Spence but Thurman definitely has what it takes.
But AJ is undoubtedly heading that way to becoming the face of boxing.. He’s already partnered with Sky and has been appointed ambassador of Sky. He sells out stadiums, He’s backed by corporate sponsors and endorsements. He looks the part, talks eloquently, has power and is a heavyweight. If he wins against Vlad he will become that guy.
Anthony Joshua has star quality written all over him. He has the best chance of the current boxers to become a global superstar a couple of years from now.
I just don't think the HW pool is deep enough for it to be Joshua. Needs more characters. If fury never left and haye didn't lose, damn now that I think of it all the clowns are from England.....I'm joking don't bash me
I like Gervonta Davis.
But my mind says if Canelo gets past JR and GGG there will be no question. Canelo is at a all time high when boxing in all is kinda down. I also think the move up in weight is beneficial for him as it will allow him to be at his prime in the best division in the history of boxing.

My Money is on Joshua! The physique, size, power, but also the very laid back personality outside of the ring I think that works for only a heavyweight and in the ring he continues to get better. IF and that is a big IF because Wlad is still dangerous but if he beats Wlad impressively then he IS OFFICIALLY the face of boxing because he would have done it in front of 90K and I don't see no other fighter packing in 90K again anytime soon other than maybe Joshua vs Wilder in the UK if both continue to win!
AJ isn't good at marketing
Not at all, its all calculated, he knows what hes doing http://www.telegraph.co.uk/boxing/2016/12/09/anthony-joshua-could-become-first-billionaire-boxer-meet-team/
Canelo
He has the huge fanbase, the good looks, and a great PR team
he'll still be the face of boxing assuming he keeps fighting and beating good fighters and looking good while doing it
even if GGG beats him, his popularity will still be there
AJ if he gets past Wlad. The heavyweight division isn't exactly buzzing, but there are enough interesting fights to keep people's attention. It's just a shame the Yanks don't really have anyone except Wilder.
It could still be Canelo. Even if he lost to Golovkin, I think he could still be the biggest seller in the sport. Golovkin himself can move to a new level if he wins, but I'm not sure he could be 'the face of boxing'. Maybe if he annihilated Canelo. That would make him a big deal to the Mexican audience too.
Aside from that I'm not sure. Loma is very good, but who's he going to beat to launch himself as a star? There doesn't seem to be anyone, except maybe Mikey Garcia, but Mikey isn't that big yet either.
Crawford looks like he might be good enough too. He would need a win over Pac and he would have to back it up with more of a public profile. Possible I guess.
Spence is a definite possibility if he beat Brook and Thurman. He has a fan friendly style, he's in a watched division, and he's American. Thurman himself? Maybe. But he will have to win a lot more impressively than he did on Saturday night. That might be harsh, but it's realty.
Wilder. If he becomes the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion it would make noise from the casuals to know who is. All-Americanism and Pride. Post Foreman, Holyfield, Tyson era.
Winner of Wilder-Joshua showdown for sure, Spence, Canelo already is a major draw..
Canelo's hit a wall until he fights Golovkin. Joshuas already surpassed Canelo on most social media platforms and can only get bigger in the next few months
its in UK ,social media dont give you money ,TV deals and PPV does ,and Chavez PPV will do good numbers .
AJ in USA is no threat ,and Canelo is not fighting in UK market
