Yeah, would be silly to plan ahead of a sure KO victory That's what people thought for Quillin when he was fighting Jacobs, look how that turned out. GGG is obviously the favourite, but with Jacobs punch power that he has got you cannot rule him out completely like you're doing.

Meh, in regards to lineal , it can be watered down. The man who beat the man, but always needs to come with context. Murray was the last challenger to the MW lineal who was actually allowed to weigh in at 160. And that fight is 4 years old next month.

Canelo would be more respected as the lineal champ if he had defended his claim by fighting legitimate middleweights. If you are saying that he deserves to be called the man in the division because he beat one guy at 155 18 months ago, then why not allow world champions to call themselves champs long after they have been stripped. A champion doesn't stay a champion forever unless he defends against worthy opponents, either set by an organisation or recognised by the boxing public. This right here. One question that we don't have an answer to yet is whether all 4 belts would be on the line for this potential fight, given that Golovkin has so many overdue mandatories, the IBF, WBC and WBO belt will all require their belts defended before September. So even if all 4 belts were to be collected, I don't think the winner would be able to keep all of them, which may play a role in negotiations.

Golovkin can literally keep fighting #1 contenders and be completely fine. He's the champ. He's the alpha male in Canelo's division. Canelo's joke tour is over. Check mate.

Lineal doesn't mean crap. Stevenson is lineal at LHW. But since he fights nobodies, we only care about Kovalev v. Ward. IMO, belts don't mean much either, although its funny how Canhellno dropped his belt to avoid a mandatory -- and made up some story about how he was continuing to negotiate a GGG fight HOWEVER, $$$$ does mean a lot. And yes, for that reason, Canelo has strong leverage. I'm hoping that reputation in the minds of the boxing public matters too. If it does, then Team Canelo will be forced to fight GGG, THE MAN at 160 (assuming he beats Jacobs). If it doesn't, than Im sure they will keep ducking GGG.
