Yes absolutely why not, both just fought a day from each other so yeah I'm OK with that match up but if I'm Joe Smith Jr and his team, he is in Position for a Shot Adonis Stevenson that is what he should purse. Stevenson doesn't have an opponent yet while he is waiting for the winner of Alvarez vs Bute so making Stevenson vs Smith Now! But HBO usually have guys fight twice on their Network so I think it will be Joe Smith vs Sean Monaghan and a Fan Friendly East Coast Battle as his second fight on HBO as Max Kellerman already mentioned during his post fight interview
That would be a nice fight to make
Try to build his hometown fan base like Arum did for Crawford
Stevenson is the last guy he should step to.
It's crazy how underrated Adonis is around here.
He positioned himself for a shot nobody about stepping to him it is a fight that will happen eventually and nobody is saying Smith beats Stevenson but it is a fight I wouldn't mind seeing
I wouldn't mind - but I don't think it happens, there are better options for both I think. I'd pick Barrera to outbox him, but you have to give Joe his puncher's chance - we already know that.
I like Joe Smith vs Sean Monaghan as co-feature to next Verdejo's appearance in New York - I think it's also very likely - probably best option for Joe Risk/Reward-wise and will be good for ticket sales from Top Rank perspective.
As for Sully, I think Main Event should be able to get him anotehr opportunity on HBO also - I'd really like to see him against Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
LAtest WBC ratings:
1. Eleider(Fights Adonis in April if he gets past Bute)
2. Joe Smith Jr.
3. Betterbiev(More likely to go IBF route)
4. Gvozdyk
5. Shabranskyy(Sullivan should take his spot now).
If Gvozdyk and Barrera fight in first quarter of next year, I think it should be WBC final elimnator. Put it on Ward vs Kovalev II card(Targeted for April now that Pacquiao is going to be out until June).
Barrera would win this fight. Joe Smith Jr. is just a puncher. No jab, just moves forward and throws bombs. Barrera would out box him and then stop him.

they'd be fun to watch...but i'd rather them get a win under their belts and confidence back....Ko's like they took are hard to bounce back from.
Crazy thing is 6 months ago, these would be considered soft touches. Now they're step ups lol.
My desire to see this fight is low. I would watch it because I watch all pro boxing between pros rated in the top 50 of the world. I don't care if I see Barrera fight again or not.I will be following Smith closely and looking forward to his future fights. I think he is a good and very exciting fighter. He goes for the KO and usually gets it.
Cotto and Kirkland both are coming of a loss and are about to headline a PPV.
Smith Jr vs Williams Jr.
Barrera vs Edwin
Both would be good scraps.

I think Smith would KO Barrera with no problem what so ever. Even that completely washed up shell of Hopkins that fought Smith could probably beat the highly overrated Barrera.
....both those guys are coming off of losses....
