Most boxers will do what they can get away with in the ring. Holding is illegal but if a ref allows it to go on, a fighter will hold if it's to his advantage. Ward's strategy was to smother Kovalev's power by getting inside. Kovalev wanted to prove he was as strong as Ward so we got an ugly fight. All of Ward's fights are ugly. He's undefeated so he must be doing something right. but if you're looking for clean punches, crisp combinations etc, Ward's not your go to guy. Well said.

Lmao.....I had to stop watching when the biased,clown breaking it down said Ward was pretty much "getting beat down" the entire fight. Leave it to you to pick and choose what favors your view. I've watched the fight several times and Mob is clinching just as much and not trying to work inside as often. It was a close fight, but not a robbery at all. This ^^^. They don't care that a guy is making a mockery of the sport as long as it's their guy. It's like rules are non existent as it relates to certain fighters and it's really hurting the sport. Ward single handedly ruined what should have been a much needed shining moment for the sport, with his callous disregard of the rules. It also puts the referee in a tough situation when you have a fight of that magnitude, I really can't blame them for not wanting to be deciding factor. Kovalev did as much clinching as Ward. Because boxing is bought mainly by stupid people that just want some idol from their own race or country. They will support the guy no matter what so the people in the business know when to enforce the rules or not. They favour the guy than can make more money for them. This. The depths the Americans have gone to in supporting Ward is worrying. They actually call his bull**** clinching, inside fighting. It's disturbing. The Americans will cheat in every way possible to get what they want. They're like spoiled little brats who stamp their feet to get their own way. If Ward was to fight outside of the states, there's no doubt the guy gets DQ'd.

Those are the only fights anyone ever points to when calling Ward dirty because they're the only examples of it. His entire style is illegal,you just pointed out two fights in which he got carried away. He normally isn't as egregious as he was in those Fights that you mentioned,but he's still awful and shows a blatant disregard for following the rules. How the hell is his style illegal? 100% agree with you. Can't blame him for Kovalev fight either. Ward initiated the majority of the inside brawling & fighting, but Sergey was more than happy to oblige him. That's why the ref stopped trying to break them up after the 1st. They were both guilty of brawling. The Kovalev fight wasn't really dirty, either, on either side. A little rough, but on a perfectly acceptable level. Kovalev had a very good gameplan to lessen Ward's inside advantage, and Ward was good enough to make up for it a bit more later. If we're seriously going to consider that dirty or illegal, then that's very unfair.

Ward hasn't fought illegally his entire career. He was dirty in the Kessler and Bika fights and a bunch of angry fans have never let it go. He hasn't fought dirty in any fight since. And considering how dirty a fighter Bika is, I don't blame Ward for fighting dirty back. 2 fights does not equal his entire career. His entire style is illegal,you just pointed out two fights in which he got carried away.
