Fighting illegally his entire career. I think it's unprecedented, and people call this guy great. It's one thing when an ancient fossil like Bhop fouls occasionally, but Ward has been doing it for his entire career. He seldomly gets warned, rarely gets points taken away and gets called great while cheating. His whole style is akin to a basketball player being allowed to foul with impunity all game or a defensive end being allowed to line up offsides. Which gets me back to my original question, why is he allowed to constantly foul? He doesn't get points taken away from the refs, he doesn't face criticism from the media. There has to be something that I'm missing here.
Most boxers will do what they can get away with in the ring. Holding is illegal but if a ref allows it to go on, a fighter will hold if it's to his advantage.
Ward's strategy was to smother Kovalev's power by getting inside. Kovalev wanted to prove he was as strong as Ward so we got an ugly fight.
All of Ward's fights are ugly. He's undefeated so he must be doing something right. but if you're looking for clean punches, crisp combinations etc, Ward's not your go to guy.
Well said.
When he said that he had to get dirty and used phrases like rough him up in support of that statement, I'd say that it's pretty obvious what he's referring to. He was being literal, I don't understand why his fans are trying to find a loop whole in his statement. He's a dirty fighter, with a history of being dirty, and said that he got dirty. It's pretty black and white to me and it's a reach to claim that he meant anything else.
Getting dirty as in going to work. He had to really work this fight...in other words it wasn't easy. But hey, you can play the literal angle all you want. Nobody but a biased fool is going to buy it. Especially when you can watch the fight and see Kov clinching as much as Ward. But it's good, you have an excuse for him though. :fing02:

Clinch or be head butted? When was Ward trying to butt him? And saying he had to get dirty is a figure of speech, it wasn't literal. If he said he had to dig deep in sure you would think he brought a shovel into the ring with him to, right? It was either clinch or be head-butted and smothered to death. Ward initiated 95% of the clinching, I don't even know how you can dispute any of it, Ward was quoted as saying that I had to get "dirty".

Kovalev did as much clinching as Ward. Funny how you guys aren't pointing that out.

Lmao.....I had to stop watching when the biased, clown breaking it down said Ward was pretty much "getting beat down" the entire fight. Leave it to you to pick and choose what favors your view. I've watched the fight several times and Mob is clinching just as much and not trying to work inside as often. It was a close fight, but not a robbery at all. Still wondering who is going to be the first boxing insider or even poster to show proof of corruption? :lol1:
And that's all it takes to scare you....that's a fact:rofl:
Jealous-hearted eye-brow plucker:bottle:
Hes more white to be honest since he's dad is white. One of them good white fighter. :lol1:
This ^^^. They don't care that a guy is making a mockery of the sport as long as it's their guy. It's like rules are non existent as it relates to certain fighters and it's really hurting the sport. Ward single handedly ruined what should have been a much needed shining moment for the sport, with his callous disregard of the rules. It also puts the referee in a tough situation when you have a fight of that magnitude, I really can't blame them for not wanting to be deciding factor.

Because boxing is bought mainly by stupid people that just want some idol from their own race or country. They will support the guy no matter what so the people in the business know when to enforce the rules or not. They favour the guy than can make more money for them.
This.
The depths the Americans have gone to in supporting Ward is worrying. They actually call his bull**** clinching, inside fighting. It's disturbing.
The Americans will cheat in every way possible to get what they want. They're like spoiled little brats who stamp their feet to get their own way.
If Ward was to fight outside of the states, there's no doubt the guy gets DQ'd.
Cinching IS illegal. It appears in the rules. Excesive clinching. Google it.
Ward himself said it: "I got dirty..."
One of the main reasons why boxing is not selling these days is clinching/inside wrestling. It ruins the sport. You don't care as long as the man you root for is given the victory. This ^^^. FFS, clinching has literally existed for the entire history of the sport. It is not illegal. It used to be much worse than it is now. Ward isn't even close to the worst clincher in the sport. He wasn't even the worst clincher in the Kovalev fight. Other than Kessler, he's never been much of a clincher at all.
If that's seriously your argument, than you're just bitter at him about something and I don't care what. Have fun with that. Using THIS to say Ward's style is illegal is like calling every fighter in the goddamn sport illegal.

He wasn't clinching, he was wrestling/holding and leading with his head. If you want to delude yourself into believing that he fights by the rules then so be it,but in the back of your mind you'll always know that he is a cheater. I want you to name a worst wrestler in the sport, because off the top of my head there is in Wlad,Ward,Molina, and Alexander. I think Ward tops all of those guys with the other additional dirty crap that he pulls.
The second rule of Marquess of Queensbury states that no holding or wrestling is allowed. He violates this rule every single time that he steps into the ring. It's pretty black and white,it isn't subjective. It's the rules and he breaks them with a wreck less disregard for the sport and the rules that uphold the sport. He makes a spectical out of the sanctity of the sport and idiots like have no qualms, whatsoever. I may start a petition should he agree to fight Kovalev again. It isn't fair to opposing fighters or fans.

How the hell is his style illegal?
He has fought well within the rules in every fight besides those two. Those are the only fights anyone ever points to when calling Ward dirty because they're the only examples of it. One which was inexcusable, and another where the other guy is known as a dirty fighter, so Ward responded. Other than that he always fights perfectly legal. He doesn't clinch a lot. He doesn't headbutt. He doesn't run. He just fights like anyone else does, but much better than almost anyone else.
Is it illegal to be better than 99% of the sport? Is that your beef here? Or are you so not used to a fighter who can fight inside that you think that is somehow illegal?

His entire style is illegal, you just pointed out two fights in which he got carried away. He normally isn't as egregious as he was in those Fights that you mentioned, but he's still awful and shows a blatant disregard for following the rules.

100% agree with you.
Can't blame him for Kovalev fight either. Ward initiated the majority of the inside brawling & fighting, but Sergey was more than happy to oblige him. That's why the ref stopped trying to break them up after the 1st. They were both guilty of brawling.
The Kovalev fight wasn't really dirty, either, on either side. A little rough, but on a perfectly acceptable level. Kovalev had a very good gameplan to lessen Ward's inside advantage, and Ward was good enough to make up for it a bit more later.
If we're seriously going to consider that dirty or illegal, then that's very unfair.
Ward hasn't fought illegally his entire career. He was dirty in the Kessler and Bika fights and a bunch of angry fans have never let it go. He hasn't fought dirty in any fight since. And considering how dirty a fighter Bika is, I don't blame Ward for fighting dirty back.
