Is it a coincidence that he managed to score knock-downs against all three of Hopkins, Chilemba and Ward but was unable to get the stoppage? I know these guys are elusive but for something to happen three times suggests there's an issue somewhere in his make-up. Either his power isn't what it's hyped up to be, His conditioning isn't good enough, he can't cut off the ring effectively or he's simply too one dimensional to cope with his opponents adjustments. Which one is it?
Yes, some will insist that he deserved to win all three fights anyway, but the point remains the same... Why wasn't he able to finish even one of these three opponents?
LOL stop crying bro!!..the fight is over and Dre got dem belts round his waist now :boxing: .
Its simple, they are wworldclass fighters ,and if Kova dont get you clean and then just work on you while you are dazed ,he wont KO,there is not many Jacksons in boxing. At its cuse of lack of body work from him, shame cuse he hurt Ward bad with right to the body one time. Its just about Body Work to make it easier ,drop them theyr hands.I think he won with Ward 115--112
I feel it has more to do with the opponents. All 3 are tricky and hard to pin down. Good chins, good defence, never been stopped before. They're fighters who know how to keep trouble at bay.
They are very tricky and awkward guys. To me, what it comes down to besides that, is that Kovalev doesn't apply enough pressure and doesn't have too creative of an offensive arsenal. He's good at what he does but I always want him to do more.
Because of Kovalev's stamina issues, he fades.
Andre Ward and Virgil said it before the fight that would be his weakness and one of wards strenght.
Funny doe that ward the supposedly ''masterboxer'' couldn't hang with Kovalev when he had full energy and had to bank on his stamina winning the fight, wrestling and clinching so he could land a body punch..
Also, all the 3 boxers you mentioned are all about defence and has superb chins, yet all of them where knocked down.
When they taste his power they go in their defensive mode and don't give a **** about the fans, they know most black will support them anyway if they cheat or win by robbery
Kov doesn't have to ko everyone. If he outpoints his opponents like he diud against ward he should get a decision.
Just cos he don't ko you is no excuse to rob him
Not just some will insist he won all three fights. The big majority think he won all three fights because he did. Ward won that fight about the same way Bradley beat Pacquiao with very bias judges. It's mainly devoted Ward fans who are pleased with him getting the win.

Well all three are world level fighters with good/ great chins and solid defences
The fact he is scoring KD's against this type of opposition is proof enough of his punching power.
"Is it a coincidence that he managed to score knock-downs against all three of Hopkins, Chilemba and Ward but was unable to get the stoppage?"
Those guys are all runners and have super low KO%.
I could say it was a huuuge feet that kov was able to KD ward and Hopkins, nobody else really has.....Those guys are defensive masters
Pascal dropped Hopkins 2 times and he was dropped earlier in his career..and Ward was dropped by Boone..and learn how to quote people
It's a function of 2 things. Kovalev is a head hunter. He doesn't work the body, which is why his opponents don't really slow down as the fight goes on. Two, all of his opponents shell up more and get even more defensive when they realize they can't hang with them.

Ward didn't run in the second half of the fight though. Infact he was doing work on the inside and Kov was trying to headlock the dude.

Kovalev didn't catch Ward or Hopkins at the end of the punch he didn't generate full power I'll give him a pass he should have stopped Chilemba though his conditioning failed him
Once you start facing real competition every fighter's KO % drops. Kovalev has very good power, but it's not elite Julian Jackson like power. His boxing is underrated though, he is very skilled.
I can understand the Hopkins fight as he literally ran, and when a fighter like that doesnt want to get ko'd they wont
I did not see the Chilemba fight so i cant comment
Ward is a beast and adjusted and fought his ass off

There's a clear pattern forming with Kovalev!! | BoxingScene Community
