I don't think so! People are just looking for ways to justify this atrocious and biased decision. I'm sure most people would have accepted the decision if kovalev won because that wouldnt be a controversial decision.
Also did everyone forget the Maurice hooker fight right before? That was a complete robbery. Although they were different judges, but it does goes on to show that judges lack integrity and something fishy was going on.
Close fight could have gone either way
Ward deserved the decision though he basically won every round in the last 7 rounds, Kov started like a buzz saw but take away the first 2 rounds and he really only won a couple rounds because he didn't do enough to win most rounds
I had it 6-6 in rounds, with Kov with the knockdown edge.
Personally I am somewhat disappointed with the fight itself. I thought both guys looked sloppy and vulnerable. Maybe they both overtrained?
I could have seen a narrow Kovalev win, and wouldn't have fussed. But, I scored it in complete fairness, and came up with the same score as the judges and many others. I feel good about the decision because it was a smart one.
I've disagreed with several decisions this year, but didn't make a big deal of it unless it was egregious, like the Hooker fight.
We all know what's going to happen in the rerun. That'll go to Ward again because Kovalev didn't do enough to tear the 3 belts away from Ward!! On this showing, I'm afraid Kovalev doesn't stand a chance - he either has to knock him out (possible but not likely) or he has to knock him down 2/3 times. If this fight was anywhere except the US it would have been a comfortable win for KKK.
there ar posters here saying that the "biased" commentary on HBO affected people's perception, maybe but i didn't see it on HBO and i had it similar to lederman 8-4 (or 7-5) for kovalev plus a KD, a clear victory, and the tv down here had it 114-113 for kovalev (way closer than what i saw)
Also did everyone forget the Maurice hooker fight right before? That was a complete robbery.
As soon as the cards were called on that fight, a lot of us were saying Kovalev would need a knockout to win!
A lot of people who were ringside, including Roy Jones Jr. were surprised at the 114-113 result. Most had Kovalev ahead.
I would have thought it was a bad decision, but not a robbery. I had it 7-5 or maybe 8-4 for Ward, but I could have seen 6-6 with Kovalev winning because of the KD. I really can't find a 6th round to give to Kovalev even after rewatching it. But I know not everyone scores body work like I do. The judges saw basically the same fight I did.
Ward won mate, stop crying like a little girl.
He came on strong for the first 4-5 rounds, then he let Ward come back into the fight. Some of those rounds could have gone either way.
Kov will get his rematch and he better put in a more convincing performance if he wants to win over the home fighter, you can't leave anything to chance.
I had it a draw, but i wouldn't have been upset if either man won.
