Ward/Kovalev was a close fight that could have went either way
Canelo/Lara close fight
Garcia/Peterson close fight
Lee/Quillin
Mayweather/De La Hoya
Mayweather/Maidana1
now I will give you examples of robberies
Lara/Williams
Hooker/Perez
Helenius/Chisora
Rios/Abril
De La Hoya/Strum
Bradley/Chaves
Pacquaio/Bradley
Pacquaio/Marquez3
Fight was very close but Kovalev was the aggressor most of the fight. Kovalev threw more punches, landed the more effective punches. Ward did come strong in 2nd half of fight and Kovalev was getting tired, output dropping, but Sergei still just edged it.
IMHO scorecards were correct but for the wrong fighter. Call it a robbery, corruption, local fighter getting the nod, bad judging, whatever. Sergei should have won.
The only reason why it appeared that ward was coming on,in the later part of the fight, is because Kovalev was beating up ward to such a degree that it looked like a mismatch.
The later part of the fight myth, is just that kovalev was not as dominating as earlier in the fight.
Excellent point tbh!

Wasn't a robbery at all
Kov started off in a dominating fashion and as the fight went on became less and less effective
Great close fight and could have gone either way but Ward won
Clear win? I didn't see Kovalev win 6 clear rounds.
Which 6 rounds were clear Kovalev rounds that couldn't possibly be given to Ward?
The first 6 for starters.
Ward didn't win one clear round.
Somehave I find it hard to believe that anyone that actually saw the fight, believes Ward won.
If anything I was surprised have dominating Kovalev was, because i was expecting ward to win.
Kovalev pressed the action, outgunned ward, and not only rattled him and knocked him down, he even beat ward in the insight game by nailing ward coming in and the lock wards arms.
Good thread. I frequently a fan of the underdog so I'm often rooting for the guy who loses and I've grown accustomed to not being biased in my judging or getting emotionally wrapped up in the result.
There are close fights and there are robberies. I saw enough close rounds that I respect those who saw it for Kovalev. I don't respect those who refuse to see how Ward could have won. You don't have to agree with the judges to see the potential for Ward to win.
