In this interview posted today DeGale said he was speaking to Haymon and Stevenson might be moving down to 168...
Quite interesting to hear that. I wonder how he would be at the weight, it's not like he's young either so shifting the weight is difficult.
Around 17.30.
I didn't get the impression that Stevenson said anything about moving down to SMW at all. It just sounded like DeGale wants big fights against big names & mentioned Stevenson as a possibility, IF he was willing to move down to SMW.
DeGale needs to move up, he looked terrible in his last weigh in
Stevenson I understand is a Showtime fighter and Ward/Kovalev are HBO so maybe he sees it as pointless to wait for them because of all the BS that would need to happen to make that fight. But the next best fight to make at those weights after Ward vs Kovalev is the winner defending their Ring/WBA/WBO/IBF titles against Stevenson and try to get his WBC title, although that's proven to be difficult due to mandos ruining possible unifications
If Stevenson can make 168 healthily (which I seriously doubt) he will take Groves and Jack OUT. Brutal stoppage. Degale is probably smart enough to survive to round 12 but he'd lose too.
Stevenson gets a lot of bad press, some of it is deserved but it was Kovs team that turned down the only fight that matters, apart from that, he has done everything asked of him and largely made it look easy. He is a genuine one punch KO artist and he is physically very strong. If he can make 168 and still keep his strength and core muscles the way they are at 175, these guys at super middle are done for.
Adonis is a strong athletic and powerful light heavyweight and he seems very comfortable at that weight. When Chad Dawson went down in weight he was weak, gaunt and drained and ineffective. It doesn't make sense that Adonis would go that route.
Surprised to hear that, I thought Degale moving up would be more likely as he looked gaunt in his recent fights at 168.
Stevenson is a big LHW now, that would be a stupid decision.
Yikes, I can't imagine him having an easy time with that. He's not exactly carrying a lot of bloat and, as you said, he's no spring chicken. I wonder what prompted this but I doubt it happens.
